According to The Sydney Morning Herald, AC/DC‘s classic track “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock And Roll)” is one of ten songs which have been selected for inclusion in Australia’s National Registry Of Recorded Sound.
Each year, the National Film & Sound Archive (NFSA) asks Australians to nominate their favorite recording, with 10 selected by a panel of experts to be added to the National Registry Of Recorded Sound.
From 250,000 sound recordings held in the National Film & Sound Archive, only 64 have made it on to the register since it began in 2007.
“It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” was the first track on AC/DC‘s album “T.N.T.”, released in December 1975. The song, which was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott, is notable for combining bagpipes with hard rock guitars, drums, and bass guitar; in the mid-part of the song there is a duet between the bagpipes and the electric guitar. A slightly shorter version of the song was released as the opening track on the international version of AC/DC‘s “High Voltage” album, released in May 1976.
