Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter and longtime JEFF SCOTT SOTO collaborator GARY SCHUTT has covered the QUEEN classic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in his own unique way:
Schutt: “Why take on the greatest rock composition of all time? I’ve loved the song my whole life and over the years have learned various parts of it, the guitar part when I was young, the piano part I picked out by ear sometime in the late 1990’s, but I knew the biggest challenge was going to be all the vocal harmonies in the middle opera breakdown.
My cover band CATEGORY THREE has been experimenting with re-makes of ’80s pop tunes and when I decided to modernize, or punk-ify/double time ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, I was curious if people would hate me for it. I searched it on YouTube and found a ton of covers of it note for note, some great some not so much, even another one-man-band guy like myself, but no one had double timed it. So I recorded it over the period of about three days. Then my cover band started playing it out live on the weekends and to my happiness people really dug what we did to this old classic! I was very relieved that they didn’t throw their beers at us in disgust. The response was quite the opposite, thankfully! I want to share it with the world and hope more people dig it too.“
Schutt recently released his 10th solo album, Moving Parts, via Palisade Records. The album boats 12 brand new tracks that are very melodic and guitar driven, with three of them being guitar heavy instrumentals.
‘A Million Miles An Hour’
‘Half A World Away’
‘Gonna Die Trying’
‘Until I See You Again’
‘Fuel To The Fire’
