Indian horror metal band ALBATROSS have recorded the classic JUDAS PRIEST song ‘Night Crawler’. The song is from the legendary British metal band’s  Painkiller album, released in 1990. The track has been released for free streaming at http://soundcloud.com/albatrosshorror/albatross-night-crawler.

The track has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Sahil ‘Demonstealer’ Makhija at Demonic Studios, Mumbai. The two release old band is part of the country’s young and budding old school metal scene.

Bassist Dr. Hex says, ‘We’ve kept the basic essence of the song as it is, as one does not meddle with the mighty Priest. While we’ve downtuned the guitars, and added one solo (or two) here and there, the structure of the song remains the same. I had the opportunity to catch Judas Priest on their farewell tour in Singapore and it remains the best show I’ve ever attended. In a way, this is almost like our farewell present to them. Us in the heavy metal community and in particular Albatross, owe so much to Priest- from the high pitched vocals, to the twin guitar leads, to thundering drums, to borderline horror themes. We also bought some new guitars recently, so this was the perfect outlet to try them out.

ALBATROSS hail from Mumbai and earlier this year unleashed their EP The Kissing Flies, which features Nik Stalvind from Swedish metal band WOLF on the song ‘Uncle Sunny At The Tavern.’ The EP was released as a split with US based doomsters VESTAL CLARET on Roadcrew Records. They followed it up with a multi city tour across India, culminating in Bangalore Open Air, an event supported by Wacken Open Air.

“Dinner Is You” is the debut EP of Indian horror metal band ALBATROSS who describe their band as “…a band which combines bone chilling stories with bone crushing metal.” And it explains everything. The band‘s debut EP shows me a very shiny and successful future for ALBATROSS and it seems the heavy metal universe  is going to include  another great horror metal band soon.

Dinner Is You starts with a short but long named track entitled “The Great Plague Of The 21st Century”, intro reminds me of the famous classical theme Tchaikovsky’s Slavonic March, not like what the legendary ACCEPT played in “Metal Heart”, but ALBATROSS found a way to play it in an even more mysterious way by using wah and delay which sounds like a march from hell. The singer starts speaking musically which makes the song more mysterious and full of horror and it sounds like you are listening to one of Tim Burton’s movie sound tracks. “The Dining Table” is the second track, filled by some heavy and powerful riffs on the guitars and bass. The vocalist sings in a high pitch and range which sometimes reminds me of legendary and master of horror metal, King Diamond’s style. The solo doesn’t sounds great at first but it would be different at 4:49 when an Iron Maiden ish solo starts to rock, but unfortunately it’s short and holds you to carry on to the third track.

The third track is my favourite one, “In The Court Of Kuru”, only the name can explain what we should expect in this song, what a horrid name by the way. I am impressed with this song which shows me the talent of these guys in writing such horror filled lyrics and music. Someone screams in the distance and another dark story starts, it’s very heavy, dark and also mysterious. The vocalist performs his parts in such a great way that reminds me again of the King. At 3:00 time I found myself again in a Tim Burton ish theme again and a picture of a dark and sick village with rain comes from above appears  in front of my eyes. This sends such strong scary shivers in the whole of my body and gives me a feeling of apprehension when the guitars start playing a genius riff on chromatic scales, which is a legacy of the legendary BLACK SABBATH. The final track is “Among The Cannibals” which is a bizarre concept story and at last I found some oriental theme in this EP, honestly I was expecting that ALBATROSS use more oriental scales and mood in their music. This track is the longest one, great rhythms, riffs, bridges and solo, all prove that I am right about expecting a shiny future for ALBATROSS in the heavy metal universe.

“Dinner Is You” is a very dark and heavy EP in lyrics and music, which can be heard a little raw. But this is understandable because it’s  ALBATROSS’s debut, in fact the band cannot start better than this ,which is an amazing debut from India. My rate for “Dinner Is You” is 8/10 and I’m looking forward to hearing more great music from this band.

Indian metallers ALBATROSS confirmed to play at Bangalore Open Air festival 2012 which will be on  Saturday, June 16, 2012. “It’s an honor to share the stage with bands like Iced Earth and Kreator that we’ve grown up idolizing. It’s going to be an old school onslaught like never before!ALBATROSS ‘s bassist Riju Dasgupta commented.

As previously posted, metallers ICED EARTH and KREATOR have been confirmed for Bangalore Open Air Festival 2012.

Listen up metalheads! We’re playing the first time ever in INDIA.KREATOR commented via a post on their official face book page.

Bangalore Open Air posted: “Here is the news you’ve all been waiting for. We are incredibly stoked and extremely proud to present our second and final co-headliner. They are the godfathers of Teutonic thrash and have forever etched their names in history as one of metal’s most supreme entities.

ICED EARTH  has announced  that the show is being filmed and recorded for an upcoming DVD/CD release.  “The decision of where to do the next IE live album and DVD was not an easy one.  We have experienced so many amazing audiences around the world that we really wish we could film them all. However, the electricity and atmosphere of the first show in Cyprus was so killer that we are convinced this is the best place to do our next DVD. Who knows what the future holds? There will be many more albums and touring cycles…your city may be next”, says guitarist  Jon Schaffer.

The first exclusive airing of the new song by Indian horror metal band ALBATROSS, ‘Uncle Sunny At The Tavern’ from their upcoming EP, “The Kissing Flies”, featuring Niklas Stalvind from WOLF, will be tomorrow on Blackdiamond’s Metal Mayhem show on FIREBRAND ROCK RADIO. The show is on from 10pm – 12am GMT.

The Kissing Flies is Albatross’s second release, after their 2010 debut Dinner Is You. The EP forms a part of a split release with American occult metal band VESTAL CLARET and is slated for an April release.

Mumbai-based horror/heavy metal band ALBATROSS has recently released a single from their upcoming EP The Kissing Flies. The track titled ‘Uncle Sunny At The Tavern’ features Niklas Stalvind (vocalist/rhythm guitarist of Swedish heavy band WOLF) sharing vocal duties with Albatross frontman Biprorshee Das.

Bassist Dr Hex explains the concept behind the song: “An unnamed narrator returns to his native town, Raptorsville after sixteen years to find it in shambles. An element of decay pervades every inch of the town; an atmosphere of wither which seems to have infected even the townspeople. Unable to come to terms with this disarray, he walks into the local tavern and meets a figure he recognizes from his youth, the mysterious Uncle Sunny. What ensues is left for you, the listener to discover.”

The Kissing Flies is Albatross’s second release, after their 2010 debut Dinner Is You. The EP forms a part of a split release with American occult metal band VESTAL CLARET and is slated for an April release.

Dr Hex adds: “Exciting things are happening in the Albatross camp. We’ve recently signed on to a merchandising company, and a label announcement will be made at a later date.”
