ALTER BRIDGE has commenced recording its fourth studio album for a tentative September release.

Commented the band in a post on its web site: “We are pleased to announce that recording has begun on our fourth studio album. First up to record is Scott ‘Flip’ Phillips on the drums.

“Stay tuned and we’ll update you on the progress as time allows.”

ALTER BRIDGE‘s last studio offering, “AB III”, came out in 2010 and included the hits “Isolation” and “Ghost Of Days Gone By”.

As previously reported, ALTER BRIDGE plans to release a new box set on May 14. The pacakge will feature a whopping 16 discs, previously unreleased interviews with bandmembers Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall, a coffee table book, autographed poster, exclusive photos and more. Further info can be found at AlterBridgeBoxSet.com.

During ALTER BRIDGE‘s break, Tremonti recorded his first solo album, “All I Was”, and toured behind it, while Kennedy recorded all the vocals for Slash‘s second solo effort, “Apocalyptic Love”, and toured the world as part of his live band.

Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips have also toured as part of their original act, CREED, who have also been working on new material.

Alter Bridge France conducted an interview with ALTER BRIDGE and SLASH singer Myles Kennedy prior to Slash‘s February 28 concert in Nottingham, England. You can now watch the chat below.

Kennedy divides his time between ALTER BRIDGE, who are working on their fourth studio set, and Slash, for whom he fronts Slash‘s touring and recording group MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS.

Slash, Kennedy and THE CONSPIRATORS have recently completed nearly a year’s worth of touring behind “Apocalyptic Love”.

The Pulse Of Radio asked Kennedy if there’s been anything he’s learned about himself as a musician as a result of working with both ALTER BRIDGE and Slash. “You know, I think I’ve gradually learned to become more of a frontman than I was initially,” he said. “I mean, when I first started, especially playing with ALTER BRIDGE, you know, I really considered myself more a guitar player who sang. As the years have gone on, and then especially once I started playing with Slash and I was pretty much for the entire set without a guitar, learning to evolve into more of a front guy. I don’t consider myself the greatest by any means, I just — I’m starting to feel more comfortable with it.”

PROJECTED, the new project featuring SEVENDUST members John Connolly (guitar) and Vince Hornsby (bass) alongside ALTER BRIDGE/CREED drummer Scott Phillips and guitarist/vocalist Eric “Erock” Friedman (a.k.a. Erock; TREMONTI), has completed work on its debut album, “Human”, to be released later in the year.

Commented Connolly: “The idea behind this project originally started as nothing more than a group of us who were friends already, going into the studio to just record some tunes we had laying around and basically just have a good time with it. No pressure from labels or any preconceived notions or expectations. Just making music and having a good time.

“This album, ‘Human’, is the end result of us working without dealines or budget constraints… or really a budget at all

“The drums and rhythm guitars were recorded by Bill Papp, Jacob Crabb and Ryan Denman at Paint It Black studios [in] Orlando [Florida]. The vocals and guitar solos, overdubs and bass were tracked by myself and Bill at studio 1119, which is the studio in my home office when it’s not being used by my wife to pay the bills or my daughter to play Webkins. Editing was done by Jef Moll, Ryan Denman, Jacob Crabb. Programming by Jef Moll, Eric Friedman and myself. String arrangements and mixed by Michael ‘Elvis’ Baskette and mastered by Ted Jensen. Produced by John Connolly, co-produced by Elvis Baskette.

“I’ve honestly had the time of my life making this record and couldnt have done it without everyone involved.”

“Human” track listing:

01. Into
02. HELLo
03. Watch It Burn
04. So Low
05. Bring You Back
06. 12804
07. Alive
08. The Crown
09. Stella
10. Closure
11. Breaking Me

Check out audio samples at www.projectedband.com.

Connolly previously revealed that the song “12804″ was written as a tribute to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

The songtitle “12804″ is a reference to the December 8, 2004 date, which is when Abbott was shot and killed onstage while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.

Connolly describes PROJECTED‘s musical direction as “not super heavy. . . somewhere closer to FOO FIGHTERS/A PERFECT CIRCLE. It’s sorta heavy, just not real metal. I guess. The songs are pretty badass, though.”

PROJECTED is:

John Connolly (SEVENDUST) – Guitar, Vocals
Vince Hornsby (SEVENDUST) – Bass
Scott Phillips (ALTER BRIDGE, CREED) – Drums
Eric Friedman (a.k.a. Erock; TREMONTI) – Guitar, Vocals

ALTER BRIDGE drummer Scott Phillips told Stereoboard that it’s unlikely fans will hear from the band again until 2013, but that they shouldn’t take that as a bad sign. Phillips explained, “We’ll certainly be visible next year, but it’ll be on various projects and then probably 2013 will be the reunion there of ALTER BRIDGE and we’ll diligently get to work on a new record and tour as soon as we can.”

ALTER BRIDGE spent much of 2011 on the road behind its last album, “AB III”, but 2012 will see singer Myles Kennedy return to work as the lead singer in Slash‘s band, while the other three members of the group will reunite with vocalist Scott Stapp for a new CREED tour and album.

Phillips said, “Each of us have our own thing. I think we’ve got a lot of different paths we’re heading on in 2012,” adding that in addition to working with CREED, guitarist Mark Tremonti is prepping his first solo album for release.
