Black Label Society are due to film a new live DVD outing by the name of Unblackened in March. The shoot will take place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA on March 06th. The special show will see the band tackle various songs from their back catalogue; along with tracks from Zakk Wylde‘s solo album and his PRIDE & GLORY project. It won’t be a standard show however, as the outfit plan to strip the songs down in an intimately acoustic manner. A four piece string section, pedal steel guitar and special guests will also be present for select tracks throughout the set. You can expect a release later this year with more details to come.
After two postponements, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s highly anticipated Unblackened concert, which will be filmed for a live DVD and album release, is set to take place March 6th at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA.
Tickets to this all-ages event go on sale tomorrow, January 11th. A slew of special guests are expected to join ZAKK WYLDE on stage that night, resulting in a truly special performance.
From Black to Unblackened: BLACK LABEL SOCIETY Deconstructs For A Unique One-Night-Only Engagement at LA’s Club Nokia
Hard rock legends Black Label Society, fronted by guitar icon ZAKK WYLDE, have announced Unblackened, a one night only concert at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, March 6th at 9:00pm. The show will feature intimate versions of some of the band’s most popular songs, as well as songs from Wylde’s best-selling solo album Book Of Shadows and Southern rock band PRIDE & GLORY. The show will feature Wylde on guitar and piano, alongside the members of Black Label Society, as well as a four-piece string section, pedal steel, and special guests. The concert will be broadcast live exclusively on AXS TV. A CD/DVD will be released later this year.
“This is something we haven’t done yet, and we wanted to give our fans something new,” said Wylde. “You can take a song that you’ve played thousands of times and rearrange it, and all of a sudden it’s something totally fresh. The attitude of the songs doesn’t change when we play them acoustically – the tunes are gritty regardless.”
In August 2010, Black Label Society released their eighth studio album, Order Of The Black, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4. The release featured two singles, ‘Parade Of The Dead’ and ‘Crazy Horse’. The band then released their ninth studio album, The Song Remains Not The Same, in May 2011, which was a compilation album featuring new, acoustic versions of songs originally released on Order Of The Black. The album reached No. 41 on the Billboard 200.
Club Nokia is located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard. Tickets start at $28.50, and go on sale Friday, January 11th at 10:00am PT.
Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) spoke to Artisan News at the premiere screening on December 12 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California of “Randy Rhoads: The Quiet Riot Years”, the first documentary film to be released on the late guitarist. Check out the report below.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s long-talked-about “Unblackened” DVD, which was previously scheduled to be filmed in late August at The Mayan in Los Angeles, California, and was then pushed back to January, will now be shot in March. The set is expected to contain stripped-down versions of some of the band’s most popular cuts.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s “The Song Remains Not The Same” sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on May 10, 2011 via Entertainment One Music, the offering featured unplugged versions of material from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s latest album, “Order Of The Black”, as well as additional material recorded during the “Order Of The Black” sessions. “The Song Remains Not The Same” was conceived, created and compiled by Wylde himself and the title is, of course, a nod to one of Wylde‘s favorite bands, LED ZEPPELIN.
“Order Of The Black” was released in North America in August 2010 via E1 Music. The CD featured four unique covers designed by Zakk Wylde himself — one for each territory: North America, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY frontman and guitar legend ZAKK WYLDE is featured in a new interview with Dani Buarque at the Lokaos Rock Show, conducted on November 25th in São Paulo, Brazil. Check it out below:
Initially issued on DVD in 2006, Black Label Society’s Doom Troopin’ Live – The European Invasion, was released on Blu-Ray on August 24th via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Doom Troopin’ Live follows Zakk Wylde on his 2005 trek around Europe, for a sold out tour supporting the Mafia album. This 16-song set in Paris is completed with extensive bonus features, including four tracks from the Astoria show in London, music videos, and “Backstage Pass” – a 50-minute documentary following BLS on the road. Originally released as a 2-DVD set, this blazing blast of heavy metal is now presented in high-def as a single disc package.
A video from the release, for the track ‘In This River’, can be seen below:

With the décor of the theater, it’s going to be killer. We’re going to film rehearsals, so that’s going to be included as well.”
Several guest musicians including SLASH, JERRY CANTRELL and DEREK SHERINIAN are rumored to join Zakk on stage during the taping.
