WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale remembers first meeting the late DEEP PURPLE keyboard legend JON LORD who he describes as “a sweet, sweet man. He knew how to elevate your spirit.”

Coverdale talks about how Lord comforted him before his audition for Deep Purple in 1973, and of the rehearsals at Clearwell Castle before they recorded the Burn album.

The latest episode of Whitesnake TV, in which WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale answers video questions from his fans about his life, music and career, and performs a few numbers with the band’s guitarist, Doug Aldrich, can be seen below.

In a recent interview with Albania’s Top Channel web site, Coverdale was asked what fans can expect from the band in the near future. “I am always reticent to discuss in detail what we’re planning as I still enjoy ‘surprises.’”

He continued, “In this day and age, with global technology and overwhelming social media, it is getting harder and harder to keep anything secret until they are ready to be presented. We host a very interactive global web site with Whitesnake.com and I answer people’s questions as much as I can without giving too much away.”

“We are very, very active this year behind the scenes. Many exciting things in the pipeline. Two projects I can tell you about are related to completing the ‘Forevermore’ project. An in-concert DVD from last year’s tour and also a double live CD featuring different shows. It’s shaping up very well indeed and I think a lot of people will enjoy re-living the concert experience they had with us in 2011. We have also started Whitesnake TV, which is off to a fantastic start and seems to be making a lot of people happy.”

Asked if WHITESNAKE will tour next year, Coverdale said, “There are plans to start in Europe in May, I heard, but as yet there is nothing concrete. But, of course, we hope to be out there again. We have too much fun with audiences to stay at home for too long!”

Regarding whether all his plans involve WHITESNAKE, or if fans can expect any other collaborations or solo projects, Coverdale said, “WHITESNAKE is my priority and at this time I have no other plans to collaborate with other artists. But, you know rock and roll… Everything can change with a phone call.”

Former DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes tells CBS Local that he has been in touch with the band’s ex-lead singer, David Coverdale, about doing something special to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the “Burn” album. He says, “David and I have talked about this weekly since [former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist] Jon [Lord] died [in July]. How we can do something to keep the flame burning. But we don’t want to hinder the heritage of the band. Some bands get back together and sound bloody awful. It’s the 40th anniversary of ‘Burn’ next year. I’m not giving you a hint to something that’s gonna happen, but you just never know.”

According to Hughes, he and Coverdale made an attempt several years ago to reunite with their DEEP PURPLE bandmates Jon Lord, Ian Paice (drums), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), but the roadblock was the band’s famously mercurial guitarist. “Jon, David and I were trying to get it together,” Hughes said. “[but] we couldn’t get ahold of him. We sent carrier pigeons, and the Pony Express. But nobody at ‘Castle Blackmore’ answered the door. It wasn’t meant to be.”

Lord told U.K.’s Classic Rock magazine in 2010 that he couldn’t ever see a reunion of PURPLE‘s Mk. III lineup.

“I think it’s a dream too far,” Lord said. “I know a lot of people would like it to happen, but it would have to have Ian Paice involved, and right now he’s committed to the current PURPLE lineup. And I know they are planning a new studio album, as well as more touring.”

He added, “I got an email from David recently, and it seems Glenn and Ritchie might be into it, although I don’t know how Glenn feels now, with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION happening.

“Yes, I would love to play with Ritchie again, but don’t read anything into that as far as Mk. III is concerned.

“I must admit I’d also have a concern or two about David‘s voice.”

Coverdale and Hughes joined DEEP PURPLE in 1973 to create the band’s Mk. III lineup, though co-founding member and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left in 1975, to be replaced by Tommy Bolin.

WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale joined Sammy Hagar on stage last night (Saturday, September 1) during the CHICKENFOOT/ex-VAN HALEN singer’s “4 Decades Of Rock” concert in Lake Tahoe, Nevada to perform the LED ZEPPELIN classic “Rock And Roll”. Fan-filmed video footage of Coverdale‘s appearance can be seen below.

SAMMY HAGAR & THE WABOS opened the show and were followed by THE OTHER HALF, featuring Hagar and his CHICKENFOOT/ex-VAN HALEN bandmate Michael Anthony. Hagar was then joined by Denny Carmassi, Bill Church and Joe Satriani (CHICKENFOOT) for a MONTROSE tribute set before the concert ended with a couple of CHICKENFOOT tracks featuring Anthony, Hagar, Satriani and Carmassi.

Sammy recently said of the career-spanning show, “This is a prototype to the type of thing I want to take on the road next year.”

Before introducing Coverdale at last night show, Hagar enthused, “If I only did this once in my lifetime, I would be happy. This is a great night.”

Commenting on his extraordinarily long and successful career, Hagar said, “I forget about it. I’m out there just partying and working, having a good time, and next thing I know, I’m turning 65 (on October 13). I’m cool with it. Everybody’s always trying to lie about their age. Fuck that. I never dreamed I’d still be doing this, but now, I never dreamed about quitting!”
