MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was on hand at this year’s NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show today (Wednesday, January 23) at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, to show off his new Dean double-neck guitar.
Originally a one-off which was built for Dave to play at the “Big Four” shows, the guitar will go into full production this year.
Mustaine said the guitar “plays like a motherfucker.”
“When I went to Dean, I found out that the guitars were very responsive,” Mustaine said. “And one of the most important things was the attention to detail. Also the relationship with me as an artist. Because the previous companies I was with, the guitars were good, but the relationship was sour. And I found that being with Dean was really good for me, because they took care of me as an artist, they took care of the guitars, they also knew what the public liked.”
He continued: “Those of you that are distributors, you know that the younger generation, they want guitars that look cool and play great, that are affordable and that icons use. For me, I’m flattered to be considered an icon, but I’m just a guitar player. And to have this kind of backing and support from a company that is as reputable as Dean is really flattering.”

UK metal band BEHOLDER who are fronted by BLOODSTOCK Director Simon Hall have announced some exciting festive news for fans:
As BEHOLDER release the ‘Profit of The Lie’ free download and build up towards the full release of ‘The Order of Chaos’ we’re offering up our very own 12 days of Christmas.
From Thursday, (13/12/12) and coming at you each day on the run up to Christmas, they’ll be posting giveaways, viewpoints (sometimes controversial), and their take on what really is going on in the world at large and not the glitter encrusted dross that forces us to drape tinsel and wear the obligatory hideous festive jumper.
Partly humorous and certainly with a degree of BEHOLDER cynicism, these posts will build into the perfect lyrical alternative to the 12 days of Christmas Carol – so keep em peeled and tell ya friends – then you can all sing your little hearts out on Christmas day along with winning free goodies including T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hang out with the band and your very own signed MLXM axe courtesy of Dean Guitars. (and if you want we’ll even sign it for you)
Today it is eight years since the world lost one of its most innovative guitarists, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. He was aged 38 and killed whilst onstage with his band DAMAGEPLAN in Ohio, USA.
Dimebag formed PANTERA in 1981 with his brother Vinnie Paul and in 1990 the band had their first commercial success with the album “Cowboys From Hell.” The band went on to even bigger success with their distinctive sounding southern groove style metal offering “Vulgar Display Of Power” in 1992.
The brothers later went on to form DAMAGEPLAN after much tension within PANTERA. They released their debut album “New Found Power” in 2004 before Darrell was shot and killed while performing with the band onstage, along with three more people.
Dimebag left his mark and also a huge gap in the metal world, but the legacy of his music lives on. He was ranked 92 in Rolling Stone‘s “100 Greatest Guitarists” and number 1 in UK metal magazine Metal Hammer and frequently appeared in polls and guitar magazines, as well as writing his own column in Guitar World magazine. He endorsed Dean guitars and had co-designed his own signature guitar just months before his death called the Razorback.
MEGADETH have checked in with the following update:
“Purchase a new Dean Dave Mustaine Signature Series guitar from any authorized Dean Guitars dealer between June 1st and July 31st, 2012 to qualify for a free (while supplies last) Korg Pitchclip Tuner and Monster Products Standard 100 guitar cable courtesy of Dean Guitars. Go to for all details.”

BLACKDIAMOND of Firebrand Rock Radio andMetal Shock Finland has recently conducted an exclusive interview with legendary guitarist MICHAEL SCHENKER when he was in London and discussed the upcoming “Temple Of Rock” album amongst many more things.
When asked about working with various different musicians on the new album “Temple Of Rock“, Michael said: “‘I didn’t have any of those things planned. At the time I was working on a touring project with Herman Rarebell and Pete Way and I was also looking for a studio to make a new record. Michael Voss offered his studio, so I asked him to help me out with vocals and when I heard him I said ‘wow he can sing!’ so I asked him to join me, then Pete and Herman wanted to join in. So I then thought it would be great to have musicians I worked with in the past and they were all available.”
“Right now I’m doing 3 guitars – I have the Retro guitar, one called Strangers in the Night and I’m promoting a new one, a ‘Kaleidoscope’, a very colourful guitar, which is only a prototype. So these are the 3 guitars I’m playing and promoting now.” When asked about the new signature Dean V guitar due out this year, Michael said.
