Steve DiGiorgio is an amazing bassist who worked with almost all the  great metal bands such as Iced Earth, Control Denied, Testament, Sadus, Sebastian Bach and many more. He also was a part of legendary band DEATH and played metal with Chuck SchuldinerMETAL SHOCK FINLAND ‘s Mohsen Fayyazi has recently had a talk with him and asked him some questions. Some of them can be read below:

Steve mentioned Davide Tiso as  ”an amazing , unique musician as well as an extraordinary person. He is a different fellow and his music is a reflection how different he is and that’s what attracted me to the project. I like a challenge to do something new…” when he was asked about his experience joining Ephel Duath.

When asked about his memories of Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH, he  said: “‘I worked with Chuck on 5 of 7 Death records, and toured with him, and we were friends who would just hang out and do stuff. So I have a pretty long history with the guy.
Playing with him was really enriching for my musical creativity because he had a great sense of composition and of his own creativity. And also playing in a band of that level helped me appear on the scene and pretty much made my whole career.

Steve discussed  about DEATH without Chuck: “Obviously without Chuck it’s not Death and we weren’t going out as the same Death band. We weren’t trying to be a facsimile of the real band. We’re a collection of ex Death members, we recruited a couple of replacement singers as none of us could handle the vocals.
Technically the band was called Death To All just to make sure we didn’t assume anything that wasn’t rightfully ours, but we did go out representing the band Death. It was a tribute to Chuck, something we did in his memory, as friends of his.
A lot of the money from the concerts went to a charity to help medical causes.

When talking about his future plans, he said the following: “Well I’ve been in the middle of quite a list of recordings. It’s not always this way for me, but right now everything is really really busy. I have a lot of different recording projects that I’m working on simultaneously – Davide, Ephel Duath…, I think it was the first of the year. I’ve recorded some music with Roger Staffelbach and I’ve recorded with a brutal death metal project called Synesis Absorption.
I’m working currently on a very epic symphonic orchestral metal album from Greece. There’s some more stuff that I need to get to. The projects are coming in at a pretty good rate this year, so it looks pretty busy.
I’m sure once I’ve cleared off the list I’ll go for a long dry spell and start looking to keep busy again, but for now I’m going to enjoy being a wanted man.”

The “Death To All Tour 2012″ kicked off on June 22 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, California and concluded on June 30 at The Beacham in Orlando, Florida. The trek, which features a majority of DEATH‘s amazing musicians, celebrated the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as raised awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

Fan-filmed video footage of the Orlando performance can be seen below.

The drums on the “Death To All Tour 2012″ were handled by Gene Hoglan (“Individual Thought Patterns”, “Symbolic”), Danny Walker (INTRONAUT, BEREFT) and Sean Reinert (“Human”). On bass was Steve DiGiorgio (“Human”, “Individual Thought Patterns”) and Scott Clendenin (“The Sound Of Perseverance”). Guitar duties were shared by Paul Masvidal (“Human”), Shannon Hamm (“The Sound of Perseverance”) and Bobby Koelble (“Symbolic”). The vocals were taken care of by EXHUMED‘s Matt Harvey and Charles Elliott of ABYSMAL DAWN and BEREFT.

Harvey replaced OBSCURA vocalist Steffen Kummerer due to visa issues and had only nine days to learn his entire set.

Commented Elliott at the end of the tour: “I just want to thank all the DEATH fans that were supportive of the ‘Death To All Tour’. I wasn’t sure how people would take someone besides Chuck playing these songs but people were very supportive. I’m obviously not trying to replace Chuck, just pay tribute to one of my favorite bands for a good cause. The people that realized this had an amazing time sharing in Chuck‘s memory and music at the shows.

“Getting up on stage with these incredible musicians and playing those songs for people that love DEATH as much as I do, was an incredible and surreal experience that I’ll always remember. I’d like to thank Sick Drummer Magazine, the Schuldiner family and estate, all the crew on the tour, and all the crazy fans that came out to the shows.”

The “Death To All Tour 2012″ kicked off this past Friday night (June 22) at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, California and made a stop the following night (Saturday, June 23) at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California. The trek, which features a majority of DEATH‘s amazing musicians, celebrates the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as raises awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

Fan-filmed video footage of the West Hollywood performance can be seen below. Photos are available at DirtJunior.com.

Harvey replaced OBSCURA vocalist Steffen Kummerer due to visa issues and had only nine days to learn his entire set. Harvey said of the opportunity: “To say that I’m excited about hitting the stage with such amazing musicians would be a massive understatement. To say that I’m overwhelmed standing in Chuck‘s spot singing his songs would be the understatement of the century. Phrases like ‘it’s an honor’ get tossed around pretty casually, but taking part in this unique celebration is truly exhilarating, humbling and magical for me. Even though the name of the band is DEATH, this event is a celebration of Chuck‘s life and the vitality and staying power of his work. To be able to share what DEATH‘s music has meant to me this way is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I am incredibly grateful to have.”

The “Death To All Tour 2012″ concert organizers commented on Matt’s involvement: “The guys in the band, as well as the organizers and crew, want you to know Matt has been killing it! We are all very thankful for his efforts and talent, being able to pull this off on such short notice.”

Guitarist Frederick “Rick Rozz” DeLillo (MASSACRE, DEATH, MANTAS) is auctioning off one of his prized BC Rich guitars. He’ll have as many ex-DEATH members sign it as possible at the “Death To All Tour 2012″ stop in Orlando, Florida. Proceeds will go to “the Chuck Schuldiner fund,” which is an account specifically for the small but significant remaining medical bills from the debt existing at the time of Chuck‘s passing. Fans who themselves wish to donate to this can do so directly via attorney Charles Wohlust at 241 North Maitland Avenue, Suite 346, Maitland, Florida, 32751, USA (marked to the Chuck Schuldiner fund).

A number of acclaimed metal musicians will make special guest appearances during the “Death To All Tour 2012″ in June/July in benefit of Sweet Relief. This five-city trek, which will feature a majority of DEATH‘s amazing musicians, will celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.
