Nuclear Blast has issued as follows:

The day the thrash metal world had waited for for so long had come past Thursday at Beastival Open Air in Geiselwind, Germany when THE BIG TEUTONIC 4, German thrash legends KREATOR, SODOM, DESTRUCTION and TANKARD performend in front of thousands of enthusiastic metalheads!

Now, all four bands share their memories and thoughts of this memorable night. An exclusive photo that had been taken after the shows by renowned artist Stefan „Heile“ Heilemann of Heilemania ( http://www.heilemania.de ) can be found below.

“My personal highlight were the fans! We had real bad luck with the weather and during our gig there was not just heavy rain but also a real storm so that it would rain on stage all the time. Our fans once more proved to be the toughest and best in the world and partied with us till the end. Touching and impressive at the same time. Beastival was a KILLER festival overall!” – KREATOR, Mille Petrozza

„Beastival was a special event for SODOM. THE BIG TEUTONIC 4 sharing the same stage… this event will go down in history. Aside of that everything else was just classy as well. I’ve barely experienced a festival as well-organized as this. And a special thank you also goes out to all the metalheads that stuck with us despite the heavy rain and made this festival a memorable and great experience for all of us! We’re hoping on a repetition!“ – SODOM, Tom Angelripper

“Wow, the day finally had come – after more than 30 years! I had only one thing on my mind all the time: why the hell did it take so long for all of us to play at the same festival? It was truly legendary! This gathering of Germany’s four thrash initiators was a class reunion with a killer audience who had a hard time because of the constant rain. My deep respect for as much love for uncompromising rock music! KILLER! Personally, I would be very delighted to do a mutual tour with the so called BIG TEUTONIC 4! DESTRUCTION would definitely be on board… metal fans worldwide are waiting for this, that’s for sure! Thanks, Beastival, for this food for thought and the amazing time! Let’s hope that whatever comes afterwards will go down in history as well!” – DESTRUCTION, Schmier

„It was amazing to see THE BIG TEUTONIC 4 share a stage after more than 30 years! Many thanks to the fantastic crowd that made this event a memorable one – despite the constant rain! This definitely demands more! Thrash Metal will never die!“ – TANKARD, Gerre

Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of GuitarWorld.com recently conducted an interview with vocalist/bassist Marcel “Schmier” Schirmer of veteran German thrashers DESTRUCTION. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

GuitarWorld.com: Your new album, “Spiritual Genocide”, came out in North America in February, but it’s been out in Europe since November 2012. What’s the reason for the gap?

Schmier: If I was the label, I would have released it at the same time, but it’s not up to us. I think the reason was, December is not a month for heavy metal releases in America, so the label said there was no chance of releasing the album that month. So we pushed it to January. But then we have to wait until Nuclear Blast found a new distribution company in America. That’s why there’s been a three-month delay now in America as compared to Europe, which is kind of bad, but there’s nothing we can do. All we could do is provide some extra bonus tracks. We have four additional songs for America only.

GuitarWorld.com: I was going to ask you about the bonus tracks. It’s four re-recorded songs from the “Metal Discharge” album, right? Why did you pick songs from that particular album?

Schmier: They’re not even re-recorded, but remixed versions, actually. “Metal Discharge” is a cool album, but it doesn’t have the best sound. We tried to make it like a “back-to-the-roots”-sounding album, but it didn’t really work out that well. The drum sound is very bad on that record. So it was kind of a good thing for us to show the world that “Metal Discharge” has cool songs if they have the right sound, so that’s why we took some songs from that album. They were remixed, and as you can tell, it worked out really fine if you compare them to the original ones. It sounds just so much better.

GuitarWorld.com: Would you say the album is more atmospheric and darker than some of the recent albums?

Schmier: Possibly. It’s kind of difficult for me to say, to criticize my own work. I think the new album is fast and groovy, but it also offers a variety. If you go on playing just thrash, of course you’re limiting yourself in your thrash costume. None of the songs on this new record have the same tempo. All of them have a different root and speed, so the variety on the album also makes it a little bit darker. It’s not a slow album, it’s just that there’s variety. Some of the albums we did in the mid-2000s were slow. This one has some ultra-fast parts too.

GuitarWorld.com: Was it your aim to do an album with more variety, something more than just thrash, or did it just come out naturally when you started writing?

Schmier: When you start writing, of course, you are aware of the style and aware of where you want to take it. As a musician, you always want to create something new, you know. Otherwise you’ll be criticized for repeating yourself. With this new album, we are not just copying our own work from the past or from other thrash bands. There are a lot of new ideas, and I’m proud that we’re still able to come up with that even after all these years. It’s easy to write a brutal album, but it’s very difficult to write a brutal album that has variety and style on its songs.

Vocalist/bassist Marcel “Schmier” Schirmer of veteran German thrashers DESTRUCTION will join Greek thrashers SUICIDAL ANGELS on stage on April 19 in Athens, Greece. SUICIDAL ANGELS states: “The frontman of DESTRUCTION will be our guest of honor and will do his part in tearing Gagarin 205 up that night!”

SUICIDAL ANGELS recently announced the addition of guitarist Chris Tsitsis to the group’s ranks. Chris replaces Panos Spanos, which left the band in October.

SUICIDAL ANGELS new lineup:

Nick Melissourgos (vocals, guitar)
Chris Tsitsis (guitar)
Orfeas Tzortzopoulos (drums)
Angel Kritsotakis (bass)

On January 11, NoiseArt Records reissued SUICIDAL ANGELS‘ 2007 debut album, “Eternal Domination”. The limited digipack includes a bonus CD with the EPs “Bloodthirsty Humanity” and “Armies Of Hell”.

The band looks back at the album: “Old times, lack of experience and knowledge, hunger. It was a period that we didn’t know much, we just wanted to play fast, play well and record aggressive riffs! We were very proud by the time the album was done, Colin Davis did a great work mixing it no matter how troublesome the process was. It’s only been five years since the release of ‘Eternal Domination’ but it feels so far away right now.”

The band adds: “A lot of people have been asking for our debut album, saying they can’t find it anywhere and it’s true. Some of them have even been victims of fraud by buying a supposedly original copy, and getting some cheap bootleg or imitation of the actual thing. So we decided it was about time to put it out there again, so people can know the band’s roots and get a more complete image of our evolution so far.”

SUICIDAL ANGELS‘ latest album, “Bloodbath”, was released on January 27, 2012 via NoiseArt Records. The CD features cover artwork by Ed Repka, who has previously worked with MEGADETH and DEATH, and who was responsible for the cover to 2011′s “Dead Again”.

It will be available in black as well as in red and yellow (the latter two exclusive to the Nuclear Blast mailorder) and will contain a different song by SODOM as compared to the compilation CD (“Ace Of Spades” instead of “Iron Fist”).

Be there when KREATOR, SODOM, DESTRUCTION and TANKARD tear down the venue and thrash you into the ground!

In a recent interview with Greece’s Metal Kaoz, KREATOR frontman Mille Petrozza stated about the possibility of a full-fledged tour with SODOM and DESTRUCTION: “We have been talking about this all the time. We have been having this discussion since the last time we were in Greece along with SODOM and DESTRUCTION about getting that tour in the U.S. But this never happened and you wanna know why? … There are certain people who don’t want to tour. [DESTRUCTION bassist/vocalist] Schmier wants to tour, we want to tour but Tom [Angelripper] from SODOM does not. And, as you can understand, we can only do this tour with the three bands onboard because otherwise it would not be the same. So, without SODOM, this will never happen and I am really sorry to say this.”

DESTRUCTION frontman Schmier has just checked in with the following update:

Wow what a week! Brasilian shows ALL turned out bloody fuckin AMAZING, the fans here ARE pure thrash metal! The dedication here is unreal (the picture below shows a 25kg DESTRUCTION anniversary cake from Recife!)! You guys make us fuckin proud!!!

Just a couple of minutes ago Schmier commented to Metal Shock Finland‘s CEO Tarja Virmakari: “All shows have been really packed and wild! it was once again an amazing trip down here. the latin fans are the heart of HM!!!”
