Formed back in 1984 and influenced by Slayer, Possessed, Kreator, Celtic Frost and Bathory, NECRODEATH released what is now considered a cult-demo tape (‘The Shining Pentagram’) and obtained an incredible success through the underground. Since then they have become one of the most important and outrageous names in Extreme Metal, influencing several other bands who still mention them as a primary influence.
During their long career, spanning over 3 decades, NECRODEATH have released several critically acclaimed albums and toured the world relentlessly and they are now ready to celebrate it with their first live DVD, ‘Hellive’, a real “must have” for every fan of a band that is mostly famous for their incendiary live show and “no-compromise” attitude. The DVD contains 2 full live shows, featuring all the band’s classics and plenty of bonus material, including interviews with the band members and videoclips, and it will be available starting from May 21st, 2013 on Scarlet Records.
EMI have announced the highly anticipated release of the Double Disc DVD Maiden England ‘88 on March 25th. Now available for the very first time on DVD, this live show was filmed across two sold-out nights at Birmingham N.E.C Arena, UK in November 1988 during the band’s Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son World Tour.
Disc one contains the concert which has been specially upgraded and extended from the existing 1989 longform VHS release and now includes three previously unreleased encores: ‘Running Free’, ‘Run To The Hills’ and ‘Sanctuary’ thereby completing the full concert with a total running time of 110 minutes .
Maiden’s own Film Producer and Director Andy Matthews went back to the 1988 edit and painstakingly remastered each shot digitally; colour correcting and grading to give the image the best possible look from that time. As well as the VHS stereo sound track by Martin Birch, the band’s producer between 1981 and 1993, the DVD also includes a brand new 5.1 audio surround mix by Maiden’s current producer Kevin Shirley. The concert was meticulously directed and edited by bass player and founder member Steve Harris, so as to capture the performance from a fans-eye view of the stage, focusing fully on the music, the elaborate stage production and the lighting. Add into the mix an electrifying set list and of course Eddie, and Maiden England now offers a snapshot of a bygone era in which the band, as they continue to do today, devote their all in delivering the ultimate live experience for their fans.
Disc two is an extensive bonus disc featuring an exclusive documentary charting Part 3 in the History of Iron Maiden. This 40-minute film comprises recent interviews with the five band members and manager, Rod Smallwood. Picking up the story in the aftermath of the ‘84/85 World Slavery tour, this interesting and insightful documentary sees the band speak candidly about their memories of an exciting and occasionally turbulent period from which would emerge the albums Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. As the eighties began to draw to a close, so did another chapter in Maiden’s compelling history.
Other special extras on the bonus disc include Twelve Wasted Years. First released as a longform VHS in 1987 and available for the first time on DVD, this documentary runs for 90 minutes and includes archive interviews and dynamic live footage from the band’s beginnings in the now legendary Ruskin Arms pub, via London’s Marquee club and three World Tours. Five promo videos for the singles from the aforementioned albums are also featured and have been carefully restored and improved upon from the original films using the very latest software with the audio remastered in digital stereo.
Manager Rod Smallwood comments “We’ve been busy upgrading this concert footage for a long time, with our in-house Film Producer and Director Andy Matthews working tirelessly to weave his magic yet again!. The 1989 VHS video has been largely unavailable for many years and we know how eagerly our fans have been awaiting the new version so we wanted to give it the best possible treatment. The current Maiden England World Tour which continues later this year revisits much of the set list and production from the initial 1989 VHS release so it will be interesting to compare just how much has changed in terms of our 2013 live show production, especially with all the advances in modern technology and the improvements we’ve been able to make to the set.”
The Maiden England ‘88 concert soundtrack will also be made available on 2CD album, Limited Edition double vinyl picture disc and Digital Download formats. The audio had previously only ever been available before on CD as part of EMI’s 1994 Sound And Vision Series packaged alongside the VHS, but with two tracks fewer than the video contained. Can I Play With Madness and Hallowed Be Thy Name were not featured as there was no space on the 1CD disc. Now with the three encores also included the double disc offers a total of five tracks previously unavailable on CD making this the first full and complete audio recording release of this historic tour.

It’s not easy for “underground” bands to release DVD’s. Without major labels behind them who have money to invest in their roster, it’s pretty much a dream for the majority of bands, no matter how much demand there is from fans who are weary of trying to watch their favourite bands on YouTube, at the mercy of the vagaries of their internet connections and with poor sound quality. So Danish Black Metallers BLODARV have taken matters into their own hands, and released a DVD themselves, but in a format that self-financing would permit - DVD-r.
Titled “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, the DVD contains videos for tracks from BLODARV’s albums “Soulcollector”, “Linaria Amlech”, “Civitas Diaboli” and the newly released “Gâst”, as well as a live recording from their show at Club Brutal, in Aarhus Denmark, filmed in December of last year. The DVD will be available exclusively through the band’s webshop at http://blodarvshop.bigcartel.com.
Videos featured on the “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, which is DVD player and PC compatible and is limited to 666 hand-numbered copies, as follows:
1) A Snowy Night In November (Music Video)
2) I Blaek Og Blod (Music Video)
3) Blood red Rocks (Live Video)
4) Empty Fucking Life (Music Video)
5) Civitas Diaboli (Music Video)
6) Heksen Nitiria Amlech (Musik Video)
7) Those Who Speaks In Minds (Slide W Live Pics)
8) Langt Vaek Fra Livet (Slide W Live Pics)
Commenting on the decision to release a DVD in this format, frontman and founder Hugin said: “The question we were most frequently asked during 2012 was if we ever intended to release all our official videos, which normally reside on YouTube, as a physical DVD. We wanted to start this year by making a little special “Something” for our loyal fans and with that in mind we gathered together eight of our most popular underground videos, and made the DVD-r “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, so that everyone has a chance to enjoy it on their DVD player with CD quality sound, on a proper sized screen and without having to wait for any annoying buffering or deal with bad internet connection, which affect many of our fans in different parts of the world”. According to a posting (since removed) on the web site of Belgian classic rock radio station RTBF, LED ZEPPELIN‘s reunion for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007 will finally be released on DVD and CD in November. Citing sources at Warner Music, the site reported that the set will consist of a double DVD accompanied by two CDs.
An estimated nine million people applied for the 18,000 tickets to the O2 Arena show, which featured Jason Bonham taking his late father’s place behind the drum kit.
In its review of the concert, NME.com wrote that LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant spoke little during the show, but when he did, it was mostly to pay tribute to Ertegun, who he said after first encore “Whole Lotta Love”, “ran the best label in the world” in Atlantic Records.
Speaking to the Los Angeles radio station KLOS in December 2010, Jason stated about the prospect of the concert being released on DVD, “Nothing is official, as yet. I only know that because Robert had said that he’d watched it. I really do hope that it eventually will see the light of day. It’s just nice to know that Robert had seen it, so I knew something, but it was nice that he rang up and said, ‘Wow, it sounded great.’ Fingers crossed, everybody… fingers crossed.”
In an interview with U.K.’s Telegraph.co.uk, Plant was asked about ZEPPELIN‘s 2007 reunion concert. “I really had a wonderful time,” said Plant. “It was the best LED ZEPPELIN gig since 1975.”
When asked if he would do it again, Plant replied, “I don’t think so. You’ve got to have a lot in common with the people you’re working with at this time in your life. Everything has to move on and forward, in all relationships.
“I know that bands that haven’t put out a record for 10 years are playing to 20,000 people a night. But that’s not the achievement. The achievement is to knock yourself out. It’s a very selfish thing. The tail must never wag the dog.”
A few months back, radio personality and “That Metal Show” co-host Eddie Trunk tweeted, “Heard from a very reliable source backstage at AEROSMITH show that there will be some sort of LED ZEPPELIN activity around Christmas.”
According to Cinemablend.com, Rock Of Ages will be released on both Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on October 9.
Rock of Ages Blu-ray Special Features includes:
- Extended cut (+13m of footage)

- The Sunset Strip
- Raising the Bar – a look at the Sunset Strip
- Connection to the Music
- So It Started In A Bar – Any Way You Want It – music featurette
Despite it’s all-star cast, Rock Of Ages made a dismal performance at the US box office in mid-June earning $15.1 million to place third overall. It’s one of Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise’s (who plays the ’80s rocker Stacee Jaxx) worst opening weekends for a movie ever!
Rock Of Ages sees the all-star Hollywood cast – also featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Malin Akerman – singing some of the greatest hits of the hair band era including GUNS N’ ROSES, WHITESNAKE, NIGHT RANGER, DEF LEPPARD, BON JOVI, JOURNEY, POISON, TWISTED SISTER, FOREIGNER, BON JOVI and JOAN JETT.
MVD Visual has set an October 23 release date for the “Live In Indonesia At Java Rockin’ Land” DVD from Christian hard rockers STRYPER.
Celebrating almost 30 years of incredible melodies and musicianship, “Live In Indonesia” features hits and rarities delivered in impeccable sound and video.
Recorded in front of an enthusiastic crowd in 2010, this is the definitive STRYPER DVD.
“This show was an unexpected, but welcomed, addition to our tour schedule,” said STRYPER singer, guitarist and songwriter Michael Sweet. “It was added last minute and we scrambled to make it happen, but I’m glad it worked out. It was an opportunity to go to a primarily Muslim country and share our faith. Java Rockin’ Land was a highlight moment of our career and I’m thrilled that we were able to capture its on video. It’s definitely one of the better live performances by the band in a long time, and the fact that it was captured on video makes it even more exciting. I think the fans are going to really enjoy it.”
Without a doubt, STRYPER is one of the top Christian rock bands of all time, and certainly the most celebrated Christian metal band of all time. Comprised of Sweet (vocals/guitar), Oz Fox (guitar), Tim Gaines (bass), and Robert Sweet (drums), STRYPER has been rocking since 1983, and is responsible for such ’80s metal classic albums as “Soldiers Under Command”, “To Hell With The Devil”, “In God We Trust” and such MTV hit singles/videos as “Calling On You”, “Free” and “Honestly”.
After a sabbatical for much of the 1990s, STRYPER returned strong in the early 21st century. But it was not until their 2011 covers set, “The Covering”, that the aforementioned definitive STRYPER was reinstated, as the band welcomed Gaines back into the fold.

WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale has issued the following update:
“We are busily mixing and editing a live album and a separate in-concert DVD from the ‘Forevermore’ world tour, plus mixing an special expanded editions of ‘Into The Light’ and ‘Restless Heart’. Plus archiving so much audio and visual material and content from so many years. But [we're] definitely not [working on] a whole new studio album at this time. Quite simply we wouldn’t have time to write and record a new studio album. It was never on our agenda for 2012.” WHITESNAKE‘s new album, “Forevermore”, sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 49 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was recorded, produced and mixed by Los Bros Brutalos (Coverdale, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre).
WHITESNAKE‘s “Live At Donington 1990″ DVD/live double CD set was made available on June 3, 2011 in Europe and June 7, 2011 in North America via Frontiers Records.
WHITESNAKE 1990 featured guitar greats Steve Vai and Adrian Vandenberg, bassist Rudy Sarzo, drummer Tommy Aldridge and, of course, incomparable frontman David Coverdale. The “Live At Donington” 1990 DVD also includes a substantial gallery of never-before-seen stills of the band on the “Liquor & Poker World Tour 1990″, plus an intimate behind-the-scenes documentary of the making-of the “Slip Of The Tongue” album.

Tarja Turunen had her March 30 and March 31 performances at Teatro El Círculo in Rosario, Argentina professionally filmed for her upcoming concert DVD, “Act I”, tentatively due before the end of the year. Each of the two shows featured a different setlist with the exception of five songs, including three tracks from Tarja‘s time with her previous band (“Nemo”, “The Phantom Of The Opera” and “Over The Hills And Far Away”).
In other news, Tarja is in pre-production for her third solo album, which is expected to be released sometime next year. She says, “I have 25 songs where to choose the best ones for the album. Some of the musicians are already working on them with me.”
Turunen‘s latest project, HARUS, in December released a CD/DVD/Blu-ray, entitled “In Concert – Live At Sibelius Hall”.
