During a recent BW&BK interview (coming soon) for AMARANTHE’s new album, The Nexus, vocalist Elize Ryd discussed the unexpected once in a lifetime experience of singing for NIGHTWISH on September 28th, 2012 in Denver, CO when the band’s then-singer Anette Olzon fell ill. An excerpt from the concersation is available below:

“It was a very special thing,” Elize says of the night. “I love Nightwish and I’ve sung their songs many times for myself (laughs). When you’re on tour you’re in a little bubble, so you don’t really think too much about what’s happening outside that bubble. They asked me if I would be willing to sing for them that night, and we decided that if the audience agreed it was okay for them that I sing, of course I was going to help Nightwish out so they could do the show. At least with some singing so they wouldn’t have to do it all instrumental.”

“It was a little bit like a dream come true for me because I always wanted to sing for Nightwish (laughs). I did audition for them years ago, so to actually be on stage with them was great. And the response from the crowd really helped. I was almost crying on stage because the people were so supportive.”

AMARANTHE Singer Records Song With Ex-STRATOVARIUS Guitarist

Swedish singer Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE, KAMELOT) has recorded a song with former STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki for an as-yet-undisclosed project. Ryd is on her way to Gothenburg to film a video for the track, which she says “sounds great.”

Tolkki recently opened a new mixing and mastering studio, Studiotolkki, in Helsinki, Finland.

The guitarist last year made his “Loneliness Of A Thousand Years” book available for free download at this location.

Tolkki drew up and signed an official waiver on May 20, 2008 giving up all rights to the STRATOVARIUS name. The remaining STRATOVARIUS members — Timo Kotipelto (vocals), Jens Johansson (keyboards) and Lauri Porra (bass) — have since recorded and released three additional STRATOVARIUS albums with guitarist Matias Kupiainen.

AMARANTHE entered the studio last September to begin recording its sophomore album for an early 2013 release. The follow-up to 2011′s “Amaranthe” was once again recorded at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen.

Jonas Lööw at Sweden’s Rockbladet recently caught up with AMARANTHE vocalist Elize Ryd, also known for her work with KAMELOT as a backing vocalist. An excerpt from the interview is available below:

Jonas: Do you still manage to combine these two things, (musical performance) and musical career playing in bands?

Elize: “Absolutely, I’m doing my best. I work with the band Kamelot for the fourth year in a row now, and their music is very inspired by musicals. Each album is based on a unique story, and my job is to illustrate the different characters in it. I stand for the theatricals and visuals in their show. It feels really great to have an outlet for my theater, and sometimes even dancing skills there. I work to the extent that I have time to show different projects where I sing, do back-up singing and dancing behind both Swedish and international artists.”

Jonas: I’ve read that you were one of the candidates to replace Tarja Turunen in NIGHTWISH, what happened?

Elite: “Yes, it went pretty well for me during that tryout. It was Jake and Olof who did send in the application on behalf of me. I had no idea who Nightwish were when I wasn’t a part of the industry (laughing). I was way too young and because of my lack of experience, they did choose Anette Olzon instead. Olof promised me that he would start a new band and that I could be the lead singer, and that made me really happy of course (laughing). About a month ago, I did perform with the band in Denver during the support tour with Kamelot in the US, when the singer got acutely ill.”

KAMELOT backing singers Elize Ryd (also of AMARANTHE) and Alissa White-Gluz (also of THE AGONIST) filled in for NIGHTWISH vocalist Anette Olzon last night (Friday, September 28) at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado after Olzon was taken ill and had to be hospitalized.

Commented NIGHTWISH: “We were in hell [yesterday]. Vocalist in a hospital. Show about to be canceled… But nobody gave up an inch. With the help from the ladies Elize and Alissa from KAMELOT, we actually managed to pull of a relaxed and great show! The crowd doing the mass karaoke with the band playing was absolutely amazing. We were humbled and grateful at the same time. This is unity and help from friends and fans.

“Anette is already recovering, thanks to the medical staff and whatever powers there exists. The shows will go on.

NIGHTWISH‘s long-awaited “Imaginaerum” film — based on the band’s album of the same name — will be released theatrically in Finland on November 23.

The movie will have its premiere on November 10 at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, where the audience will be treated to both a full-scale NIGHTWISH concert and the first-ever public screening of the movie.

Eagerly anticipated around the world, “Imaginaerum” creates a musical fantasy world in the vein of David Lynch, Neil Gaiman, and Cirque du Soleil. The movie is an innovative mixture of story-telling and music, an extraordinary tale of the power of imagination… and what’s ultimately important in life.

Shot and post-produced in Canada, the movie was directed by Stobe Harju and produced by Solar Films, and features appearances by all NIGHTWISH members. The screenplay is based on a wild vision that Tuomas Holopainen, the mastermind of the band, devised after the album “Dark Passion Play” came out in 2007.

The official soundtrack of the movie, “Imaginaerum By Nightwish: The Score”, will be released on the day before the premiere — Friday, November 9. The album features 13 grandiose, unreleased re-interpretations of “Imaginaerum” tracks by Petri Alanko.

The “Imaginaerum” album was released in the U.S. on January 10 via Roadrunner Records.

Video footage of Amanda Somerville (TRILLIUM) and Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) recording backing vocals for KAMELOT‘s new album at Wolfsburg, Germany’s Gate studios under the direction of producer Sascha Paeth (EDGUY, AVANTASIA, RHAPSODY) can be seen below.

KAMELOT laid down the drums for the new CD at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida with renowned engineer Jim Morris.

Due on September 25 (one day earlier internationally) via Steamhammer/SPV, the title of KAMELOT‘s new album will be revealed at the end of June, along with the name of the band’s new vocalist. Guitarist Thomas Youngblood says, “I have to say the fans will love the new singer. We love what we hear and that was the biggest test. Of course, there will be fans that hold on to the past and I understand that, but things change and you can either move forward or live in the past. I was humbled by the amount of singers that applied for the spot, some totally unknown and others are names that every metal fan would know. In the end, we chose the guy that fits KAMELOT in terms of sound, writing and image.

Youngblood on the style and content of the concept album: “The new songs sound more symphonic and melodic than our last two studio recordings. The material brings to mind albums such as ‘Karma’ (2001) and ‘The Black Halo’ (2005). In addition, this will be the best production that KAMELOT have ever delivered. Because while other acts tend to opt for low-budget productions due to the difficult market situation, we have gone the opposite way: the new album will be a real statement, in terms of our compositions as well as in terms of our sound.”

KAMELOT will support Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH on a North American tour in September and October.

Swedish vocalist Elize Ryd of AMARANTHE has once again been selected to fill the female singer spot on KAMELOT‘s upcoming North American tour with NIGHTWISH in September/October.

Commented KAMELOT: “Elize has been touring with KAMELOT since 2010 and will once again join the band for a very special tour throughout North America.”

AMARANTHE‘s self-titled debut album was released in Europe in April 2011 via Spinefarm Records.

KAMELOT‘s recently completed North American, South American and European tours featured guest singer Fabio Lione of RHAPSODY OF FIRE following the departure of KAMELOT‘s longtime frontman, Roy Khan. A permanent replacement for Khan has not yet been announced.

KAMELOT returned to Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany in January with Sascha Paeth producing, to begin recording its new album. The production is expected to be several months long and will include special guests, orchestra arrangements and much more.

American metallers KAMELOT kicked off their South American tour last Thursday night (April 7) at Teatro Teletón in Santiago, Chile. Simone Simons (EPICA) and Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) made guest appearances during the show, which marked KAMELOT‘s first-ever performance with singer Fabio Lione (RHAPSODY OF FIRE).

Kamelot Taps Amaranthe Singer For European, South American Tours

Swedish vocalist Elize Ryd of AMARANTHE has been selected to fill the female singer spot on KAMELOT‘s upcoming European and South American tours in April/May.

Elize previously performed with KAMELOT on last year’s “Summer Pandemonium Tour” and the band’s European trek in April/May 2010.

Commented KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood: “I am very pleased to hear that Elize will be touring with us again, she toured with us for the entire year of 2010 and was amazing at every show!”

Added Elize: “I am very excited about going on tour with KAMELOT. I had so much fun during the 2010 performances on all the great stages with this awesome band in front of all their amazing fans! It’s a real honor to be able to do that once again!”

AMARANTHE will provide support for KAMELOT on the European tour, along with EVERGREY and SONS OF SEASONS.
