Swedish metallers FALCONER are featured in a commercial/promotional film for the Mini Coupe, described as the first two-seater car in the Mini ranks. The two-minute clip, which contains a sample of FALCONER‘s music along with footage of what appears to be a “fake” FALCONER band performing on stage in front of the “real” FALCONER group logo, can be seen below. (Note: The music kicks in around the one-minute, 18-second mark.)

The fifth model of the new Mini generation to wear the British brand’s famous badge represents a reinterpretation of the super-compact sports car category. The Mini Coupe is the first premium car of its genre, faithfully transplanting the Mini brand’s sporting genes into a cutting-edge vehicle concept.

As the finale to “The Best Test Drive Ever. Period.” contest, Mini USA awarded one lucky motoror a fantasy test drive experience in the all-new Mini Coupe. The film highlighting the experience made its premiere on Friday, December 23 nationwide on Mini USA‘s Facebook page, YouTube channel, MiniUSA.com and in cinemas nationwide.

The national contest, created by Butler, Shine, Stern and Partners out of Sausalito, California, launched in October as part of Mini USA‘s annual Motor-Tober activities. The rules were simple but the sky was the limit: fans were asked to submit their version of the most outrageous, entertaining, attention-worthy concept for a test drive… in just six words.

Over 14,000 entries came pouring in and were evaluated on creativity, originality, and the best use of a brand new Mini John Cooper Works Coupe. Mini even partnered with Larry Smith, founder of the six-word memoir project to help judge the entries. From all of the entries received, Mini USA selected one winner — Mathew Foster, from Portland, Oregon, who opted for “Stewardess, Salt Flats, Sushi, Paratroopers, Falconer.” This interesting combo of words came together to produce Mathew‘s unique experience on the salt flats.

The events that followed will certainly go down in Mathew Foster and Mini history. He and his girlfriend were flown to the bright lights of Los Angeles, where Foster found himself behind the wheel of a Mini Coupe driving at blistering speeds through the salt flats with a stewardess feeding him sushi, and paratroopers flying overhead.

The cinema buy will reach millions of movie-goers during the key movie week between Christmas and New Year’s.

“Vid Rosornas Grav” video:

METAL BLADE has issued the following press release:

Band creates English version of ‘Vid Rosornas Grav’ for video

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – July 11, 2011 – Starting today Metal Injection is hosting the worldwide premiere of By the Roses Grave from Swedish folk metallers FALCONER. By the Roses Grave (Vid Rosornas Grav) is taken off the bands brand new studio album Armod, which features 11 songs sung completely in Swedish and was released earlier this month via Metal Blade Records.

Check out the video HERE!

Comments FALCONER guitarist Stefan Weinerhall: “The video for By the Roses Grave is re-enacting a story that took place not far from where we live. It gives you a vision of what position you would have 150 years ago if you were just a common man or serf. It surely doesn’t look like a metal video in the beginning but then again, when have Falconer ever been about being as metal as possible? The video is once again produced and directed by www.1897.se – they also did the video for Carnival of Disgust.”

Fans can check out the original version of this fascinating video, which is sung in Swedish, at the METAL HAMMER website.

Comments FALCONER guitarist Stefan Weinerhall:

“The album is embracing the Swedish folk music to a greater extent than before making it sound slightly more down to earth. The music spans from acoustic songs with cello, flute and fiddle to songs with blast beats and really heavy riffing. As said before this is a ‘one-time-only’ album and does not define the future sound of FALCONER, but it was about time to pay full notice to the influence that has always made us different. Now we have that out of our system!”

Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band Falconer has issued the following update:

“Recording time is coming up. Most songs for the next Falconer album are written and rehearsed soon as the studio time is drawing nearer, starting to feel a bit stressed!! The album will be mixed in the end of January so I’d guess we’re up for a late spring release.

“The title of the new album will be ‘Armod’ and will be completely sung in Swedish except for the bonus tracks that will simply be English versions of the best (according to us) new songs.

“This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes. Be calm, the horrid sound of accordions will firmly be left behind!!

“This is a way to finally devoting an entire album to the influences and getting that out of our system, so to speak, and to do the thing some have asked for during ten years. This is not the new direction of us but just the sound of THIS album.

“We are prepared for nagging about lack of speed and the full use of the Swedish language and, of course, the cynical opinions that we lack inspiration and thus use more traditional folk songs. The next time we’ll take another step; I wonder what that can be.”
