Los Angeles based Heavy metal rockers MY RUIN have checked in with the following announcement:
“There are not too many true guitar heroes around these days but Mick Murphy is one of the few. We love his work with My Ruin and Chevy Metal and we are really proud to have him playing our guitars.” – Grover Jackson
GJ2 Guitars made by legendary guitar designer and visionary Grover Jackson have recently welcomed guitarist Mick Murphy of the Los Angeles based heavy rock band and DIY enthusiasts MY RUIN to the GJ2 artist roster. Check out HERE.
After meeting Grover backstage at a Chevy Metal show for the first time on July 17, 2013 (which as fate would have it, also happened to be their shared birthdays) Mick received an unexpected gift from Grover after the show in the form of the Glendora “Spirit of 79” prototype #1, and the new relationship began.
“While touring the factory on a recent visit to the GJ2 showroom with My Ruin, Grover & Jon gave me a beautiful new black Glendora with a maple neck and welcomes me as a part of the GJ2 family, which I’m proud to represent. I grew up reading about Grover Jackson in rock magazines and books when I would read about Randy Rhoads in my early teens. I’ve been a huge Rhoads fan ever since I learned to play guitar and always thought Grover’s guitars were innovative high quality instruments. Company co-founder Jon Gold is also a terrific guy to be working with as well. He has a great deal of experience in the industry and, like Grover, an impressive resume. I’ve never felt such a connection and support from a guitar company as I do with GJ2. It’s an honor to be playing their guitars.” – Mick Murphy
Founded in 2011 by Grover Jackson (formerly of Jackson Guitars and Jackson/Charvel fame) and Jon Gold (former VP International Sales for Fender), GJ2 Guitars manufactures superior-quality electric guitars from its facility in Laguna Hills, California. The company designs and performs all its own wood-crafting and creates nearly all of its instrument components in-house, including pickups. Only the best woods and materials are used. Great attention is paid to playability, tone, and build quality. Grover Jackson personally oversees the production of each instrument.
OC Weekly recently named Mick Murphy #3 on their list of 10 “Best Metal Guitarists” just under Jeff Hannemann of Slayer and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Here’s what they had to say: “This talented, multi – instrumentalist and songwriter, for the LA based rock/metal band My Ruin (featuring Murphy’s wife of a decade, Tairrie B) is a guitar virtuoso that is one of LA’s best-kept secrets in terms of shredders. He is not afraid about being in a now guitar centric rock band, with fuzzy distorted rhythms and riffs as thick as his sideburns. Murphy’s talent with a guitar is evident once you seem him live, in often-cathartic performances. His influences are worn on his sleeve and often shirt, and consist of everything from punk, classic rock, hard rock and stoner metal. Murphy’s true talent can be heard and seen in My Ruin, where his approach has added more of a old school rock based, doomy, classic metal sound to Mrs. Murphy’s lyrics. In a 2009 article, Guitar Player Magazine wrote that Murphy is “One of the most ferocious and creative hard rock guitarists you’ll ever hear underground, above ground or bouncing off satellites.” Aside from being a song writer and the guitarist of My Ruin, Murphy also lends his guitar playing abilities to the 70s hard rock/metal cover band, Chevy Metal, featuring Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters.
Mick and Chevy Metal will be playing a special event at The Sayers Club in Hollywood, Ca. this Saturday, September 28th to benefit families affected by Autism and next month at The Whisky a Go Go for the ‘ Rock Against MS’ benefit on October 17th. My Ruin’s new album “The Sacred Mood” produced by Mick Murphy and Joel Stooksbury is available now via iTunes & Amazon.
