Nuclear Blast announces Real emotions form Chile. Chilean fans give GOTTHARD a clip!
Just in time for the start of the Swiss tour and on the last part of their successful «Firebirth» world tour 2012, GOTTHARD heat things up with «Give Me Real» their new fan video!
What usually requires long days of shooting with countless takes was made in Chile in an afternoon “First Take.” The result is pure emotion! Like hardly any other clip it captures the magic between the band, fans and live performance.
The video was shot spontaneously at the start of the Tour during the sound check. It was only the second show with singer Nic Maeder and is the fastest video shoot of the band’s history. The director from South America only needed one run-through. The film was shot in Chile, home of creative TV talent. In addition to the band, two known South American actors can be seen, the only 25-year-old Leon Bravo and the 24-year-old Paula Pardo.
“We were immediately enthusiastic about the idea when the director came up with the idea of making the clip on tour in Chile” says bassist Marc Lynn. “We were all curious to shoot in South Amer ica and to work with a local team. Also the fact that we were on tour and did not have two whole days as usual for a video shoot but only a few hours in the afternoon, was an exciting challenge. We got to know a lot from the people there and their sweeping, spirited way of working. “

Brazil’s Stay Heavy conducted an interview with guitarist Leo Leoni of Swiss hard rockers GOTTHARD after the band’s May 18 concert at HSBC Brasil in São Paulo with UNISONIC. You can now watch the chat below.
GOTTHARD‘s new album, “Firebirth”, entered the chart in the band’s home country of Switzerland at position No. 1 — the 14th time that a GOTTHARD CD has topped the Swiss chart in the group’s career so far. In addition, the album landed at No. 9 on the German Media Control chart.
“Firebirth” was released on June 1 via Nuclear Blast/Warner Music. The CD was produced at the band’s own Yellow House Studios in Lugano, Switzerland, with guitarist/songwriter Leo Leoni and Paul Lani (who has previously worked with GOTTHARD on several of their earlier albums, including “G-Spot” and “Homerun”) at the helm.
“Firebirth” marks GOTTHARD‘s first release with singer Nic Maeder, who was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, lived in Melbourne, Australia and grew up between Switzerland and “Down Under.”
GOTTHARD vocalist Steve Lee was killed on October 5, 2010 in what has been described as a freak road accident in Nevada.
The “Firebirth” album cover depicts the firebird Phoenix, which symbolically rises “from the ashes to the sky” — this line expresses what each GOTTHARD fan feels and underlines the turbulent time that GOTTHARD has gone through in the past months.
Behind-the-scenes footage from the making of “Starlight”, the new video from Swiss hard rockers GOTTHARD, can be seen below. The clip was filmed in an old animal food factory near Berlin, Germany where scenes from the Quentin Tarantino film “Inglorious Basterds” were previously shot.
According to a press release, the “Starlight” video features GOTTHARD fans “doing what they love to do: a concert crowd, urging on their band as loudly as possible.”
The filming went on into the middle of the night and saw the band performing in the middle of blazing flames in honor of their new album, “Firebirth”.
“During the filming of the video, we could feel again that the chemistry between us and the fans was great,” the musicians said. “We are sure this will be seen in the clip.”
For GOTTHARD, it was very important that to include some of those fans who have shown the band support through some of its darkest times, including the passing of the group’s longtime singer Steve Lee.
“We simply have the feeling that not only those of us in the band have become even closer but also our GOTTHARD family, those who are in our surroundings, are close to us and shared with us the difficult unhappy months after Steve‘s death,” GOTTHARD said. “We want to show this in the video: we are a community and we are rocking together again!”
“Starlight” was released as a single on April 20. The title track was made available in two versions: a rock and an acoustic rendition.
“Starlight” was one of the first songs that the band wrote with new singer Nic Maeder.
“The chemistry between us worked immediately,” says guitarist Leo Leoni. “It is really unusual to be able to sit down together and straightway write a song which is later the single.”
“Right from the get-go, we had a really laid-back atmosphere between us,” agrees Nic. “It was therefore not hard to come up with good ideas. It was really good fun from the start!”

Who cares about the Olympic flame that will start to burn in London soon? Today, on Friday the 1st of June, the brand-new GOTTHARD album “Firebirth“ comes out. It can be considered a musical “back to the roots” fireworks and new singer Nic Maeder’s baptism by fire at the same time. The release is being accompanied by several summer festival shows of the band.
Moreover, with the release of “Firebirth“, the much-frequented online countdown comes to an end. For four weeks the cooperation partner iTunes exclusively offered pre-release downloads of a few songs from the new record. Everybody who has taken the offer and has already bought the songs will get them credited when downloading the whole album via iTunes.
Within the past weeks, the confederates have already warmed up on a “Firebirth” tour through South America. After an exclusive German live premiere in the course of a Rock Antenne showcase in Munich, whole Europe will be able to enjoy “new” GOTTHARD live from next weekend on: on the 8th of June, the band will perform at the Sweden Rock Festival as one of the main acts, followed by festivals in France (Hellfest), Italy (Gods Of Metal), Belgium (Graspop), Czech Republic (Masters Of Rock) and Switzerland. In July, GOTTHARD will play the Bang Your Head festival in Balingen, Germany as co-headliner as well as the legendary “Moon And Stars” in Locarno (Ticino), Switzerland.

Greece’s Rock Overdose (http://www.rockoverdose.gr) conducted a 21-minute audio interview with the new singer of the band of GOTTHARD, Nic Maeder, who talks about the auditions, provides more information about their new album Firebirth and the future plans for the band.
Yesterday (April 20th) Gotthard released the first single from Firebirth. The single, ‘Starlight’, will appear in two versions, a rock and an acoustic variation.
‘Starlight’ is the virtual shooting star of album song writing: the song was one of the first that the band wrote together with Nic Maeder, the new member at the microphone.
“The chemistry between us worked immediately”, says guitarist Leo Leoni. “It is really unusual to be able to sit down together and straightway write a song which is later the single.”
“Right from the first, we had a really laid-back atmosphere between us,” agrees Nic Maeder. “It was therefore not hard to come up with good ideas. It was really good fun from the start!”
‘Starlight’ will be available on iTunes from April 20th. Check out a preview below:
The cover artwork and tracklisting were recently revealed for Firebirth , due out June 1st by Nuclear Blast/Warner Music (in Switzerland Musikvertrieb). A total of 13 songs will be on the CD, among them one with the title ‘Where Are You’, which is dedicated to their late singer Steve Lee.
The album – earthy, rocking and played with a great deal of enjoyment – goes back to the old strengths of the band. “We have remembered our roots and deliberately given the album the pure straightforward Gotthard sound. Our goal was to concentrate on the most important thing – the songs,” explained Leo Leoni, who produced the album together with Paul Lani.
As well as in the regular CD, Firebirth will feature in a specially presented limited edition. The album cover depicts the firebird Phoenix, which symbolically rises “from the ashes to the sky” – this line expresses what each Gotthard fan feels and underlines the turbulent time that Gotthard has gone through in the past months.
It will be in Latin America that Gotthard experiences their baptism of fire – the world tour starts there in May, before the band headlines several important European festivals. The band starts the German live premiere as co-headliner at the Bang Your Head festival in Balingen. An important headline tour round the halls of Europe is already planned for autumn.

Lugano – Cover artwork and track list have been decided for the new Gotthard album “Firebirth”, release date 1st. June by Nuclear Blast/Warnermusic (in Switzerland Musikvertrieb). A total of 13 songs will be on the CD, among them one with the title “Where are you”, which is dedicated to Steve Lee. In the past few days, in the band-owned Yellow House Studios in Ticino, music journalists from all over Europe were able to listen to the songs for the first time – and are euphoric about them.
“GOTTHARD is recalling their roots”, is the opinion of the German magazine Rock Hard. “Earthy hard rock, heavy on riffs, with first class refrains and only a small amount of keyboards. A strong sign of life from the Swiss.”
And the Italian Rock Hard supplements: “GOTTHARD is going back to their roots and at the same time looking to the future. The entire album makes you tap your feet to the rhythm and your heart beat loudly.” The German Rock It magazine says: “More screaming guitars, less keyboard – the hard gods have returned “Back to the Roots”.
In actual fact, the album – earthy, rocking and played with a great deal of enjoyment – goes back to the old strengths of the band. “We have remembered our roots and deliberately given the album the pure straightforward Gotthard sound. Swiss hard rock veterans GOTTHARD have released the following statement:
“Dear GOTTHARD fans — it gives us great pleasure to announce that we have found a new singer. The successor to Steve Lee, who was killed in a tragic accident last year, is Nic Maeder and is Swiss-born. Nic was born in 1971 in Lausanne, lived in Melbourne, Australia and grew up between Switzerland and ‘Down Under.’”
Commented guitarist Leo Leoni: “Nic not only has a great voice and is a fantastic musician, but we also have a great person in our midst. We can rock again at last.”
Added the band: “During the months after the decision to carry on was taken, we received a huge amount of applications from all over the world; it was really overwhelming!
“At this point we would really like to thank everyone, especially the candidates, to whom we were not able to send a personal message.
“Thank you for your understanding and we wish all of you lots of luck and success in the future!”
Stated drummer Hena Habegger: “The search took a long time but it was clear to all of us when we met Nic that he was the right guy. With him we can enjoy the music again and celebrate new success. I’m really happy that we are continuing.”
The final decision for Nic Maeder was unanimous.
“We noticed straight away that the chemistry, both musically and personally, was right. For us, he is the new member of the family,” said guitarist Freddy Scherer.
Nic Maeder, who besides his singing position also plays guitar and piano, is a very talented and creative person. His songwriting ability also means he fits perfectly into the GOTTHARD family. He is the missing piece in the puzzle.
“Music has been my companion all my life and always was an important part of it. It is a great feeling to be able to share in the birth of a song and to see how it keeps growing. I can experience that with GOTTHARD and it makes me happy. I am making music with friends,” says Nic Maeder.
The band concluded: “Of course, you can write a lot about a new singer, but in the end there is nothing better than seeing and hearing him sing. We therefore decided to produce a song plus video [see below] as a thank you to our fans, which can be downloaded free of charge. It is dedicated to all our fans who didn’t lose their faith and trust in GOTTHARD. You have supported us with all your strength during the past months. Thank you so much!”
Said bassist Marc Lynn: “With Nic, we have taken the right decision for GOTTHARD. A lot of courage is needed to step into the footsteps of such a great singer. For that, Nic has earned our respect. Let’s never forget this and make Nic welcome in the family. We are in the studio at the moment and are working with renewed energy and enthusiasm on songs for a new album, which will be released in the spring of 2012.”
Steve Lee was killed on October 5, 2010 in what has been described as a freak road accident in Nevada.
