According to Blabbermouth.net, Former GUNS N’ ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum married his longtime girlfriend Adriane “Ace” Harper yesterday (Saturday, October 12) in Palm Springs, California. Glenn Hughes (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH) performed a song with a string quartet at the event, which was attended by Steven Tyler (AEROSMITH), Juliette Lewis, John Varvatos, Jane Lynch, John Stamos, Dave Navarro (JANE’S ADDICTION) and Sorum‘s former GUNS N’ ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan, reports Us Weekly.
Sorum was born Matthew William Sorum (Norwegian spelling Srum), on November 19, 1960, in the present-day city of Mission Viejo, California. His parents were of English and Norwegian descent.
Matt and Ace, who got engaged in December 2011 after seven years of dating, collaborated on DIAMOND BABY, an electro-rock group whose debut single, “The Last Rockstar”, arrived in August 2011. The accompanying music video featured guest appearances by “Glee” star Jane Lynch, iconic actress Juliette Lewis, Verne Troyer, and MOTÖRHEAD‘s Lemmy Kilmister.
Sorum helped raise more than $275,000 at his Peace Through Music benefit gala, which took place September 15 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. He partnered with philanthropist and South Asian rock star Shehzad Roy to raise funds for both the improvement of public education and for the arts in underprivileged schools around the world.
Guitarist/vocalist GILBY CLARKE (ex-GUNS N’ ROSES) recently spoke with Greg Prato for Songfacts.com. An excerpt from the interview is available below:
Songfacts: What do you remember about G N’ R’s recording of ‘Sympathy For The Devil’? I remember hearing somewhere that band members said they could sense that that was the ending for the band. Did you have a sense that that was either the ending or the beginning of the end for the band right there?
Gilby: “I might say yes and no on that. I wasn’t that involved with the ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ recording – they did that while I was on the road touring for my solo record. I knew that that was the ending because nobody told me about it. Officially I was in the band at that time, and they did that song without me. That was one of the last straws for me, because nobody had said anything to me and they recorded a song by one of my favorite bands. It was pretty clear I’m a big ROLLING STONES fan, and they recorded the song without me. So I knew that was it.
My official end was actually at the last show of the last tour. Axl was jokingly saying ‘Bye’ to everybody, but he was really saying ‘Bye’ to everybody. He even came up to me and said, ‘Hey, enjoy your last show.’ At that point I thought he was being funny, but he wasn’t being funny. He knows what he’s doing. He’s a smart guy. So I knew it was the end at the last show.”

It’s been a month since GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba got an airborne assist from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department with his marriage proposal. And Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears has learned there’s finally been some action taken in that chopper controversy. We now know the names of three LVMPD employees who were involved in the chopper proposal. One has been transferred out of Search and Rescue. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions.
Ashba and his girlfriend were given rock star treatment by LVMPD — a private helicopter tour that ended in a marriage proposal in early August.
“I’ve had people call me up and say if they’re giving helicopter rides, I want one too. And we don’t give helicopter rides. It’s not a tour service at Metro,” says County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who sits on LVMPD’s Fiscal Affairs Committee.
The unauthorized civilian fly-along sparked community outrage and an internal affairs investigation after Ashba posted the photo along with thanks to LVMPD Capt. David O’Leary for making it happen.

In a brand new interview with John J. Moser of The Morning Call, legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER) spoke about the current lineup of his solo band, dubbed SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS, which features Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums), Todd Kerns (bass) and Frank Sidoris (guitar).
Slash: “I only called [Myles to sing on my self-titled 2010 solo debut album] because I’d heard a lot about him… I was really curious to see what he sang like. And since I was doing this record with all these different singers, I asked him to come in. And he was just phenomenal, and … I really liked him as a person. You know, his whole personality and his attitude and everything really jelled with mine.
“The longer we knew each other, the more I really just liked working with him. I thought we had a really great chemistry and we started writing on the road.”
“I put together what I thought was, you know, a quick pickup band [to tour in support of the first record]. But it turned out to be, like, the perfect bunch of guys. And I just thought that, after we’d been on the road for awhile, we should just go in the studio and make a record with these guys.”
On why he built MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS around him instead of just billing himself as a solo artist:
Slash: “I’ve always put bands together; I’m either in one or putting one together. … In working with these guys, I’m really a band guy. So the only difference about me being in a band and what I’m doing now is that I actually lead this band. It’s a sort of conscious knowledge between everybody. But I still treat it as a group. It’s just more directed by me than a lot of the bands that I’ve been in before, where it was more of a joint effort. But this bunch of guys is very happy just to have me sort of steer the ship, and they just kind of go along with it because we all want to sort of do the same thing, you know?”
On whether he would ever consider working again with a reunited classic lineup of GUNS N’ ROSES:
Slash: “I hate answering that question. I think they probably told you I don’t want to answer that question. The GUNS thing is obvious, so I don’t know what you want me to say.”
Ashba, who has been trying to kick the habit for at least a couple of years now, posted a photo on Instagram on Wednesday of himself smoking a cigarette. This prompted one fan to ask him: “I thought you quit the cigs, man?” The guitarist then replied: “I did quit [cigarettes] for 9 months. However, I was smoking fake cigarettes that I bought in a mall in Poland which contained high doses of nicotine and antifreeze, which kills people.”
He continued: “Nobody knows this, but I was rushed to the hospital put on heart monitors and I had eight of the best doctors trying to save my life. Poison control confirmed that the nicotine intake that was going into my body from the fake cigarettes was equivalent to smoking 33 packs of cigarettes a day.
“After doing a full body CAT scan, the doctors were amazed that every organ in my body was in perfect condition. They advised me to start smoking real cigarettes because my body would go into shock if I just stop smoking, so now I can wean myself off of real cigarettes and hopefully quit for good this time.”
He added: “We purposely kept this out of the press but that is the real story of why I am smoking right now.”
Electronic cigarettes, also called “e-cigarettes,” are battery-operated devices that generally contain cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor and other chemicals. The electronic cigarette turns nicotine, which is highly addictive, and other chemicals into a vapor that is inhaled by the user.
