Nuclear Blast has issued as follows:

Grab your denim vests and leather jackets, put on those hi-tops and guzzle down a few cold beers: because a true thrash metal triumvirate is ready to lay waste to a bunch of European clubs!!!

Leading the mob are San Francisco veterans HEATHEN: founded in 1984 – amongst others – by EXODUS guitarist Lee Altus, they released two landmark albums with “Breaking the silence” (1987) and “Victims of deception” (1991) before things got a bit quiet in camp HEATHEN. They returned with the thrash manifesto “The evolution of chaos” in 2010, and now the guys are busy working on new material. GENERATION KILL are being led by EXODUS front beast Rob Dukes and offer a nasty mix of thrash metal and hardcore. Check out their brilliant debut “Red, white and blood” and bang those heads! The line-up is completed by Munich-based newcomers DUST BOLT who indulge in old school thrash metal goodness! They have recently released their great debut “Violent demolition”.

Graspop Metal Meeting has issued as follows:

Last year, TWISTED SISTER and their flamboyant frontman Dee Snider set foot on Belgian soil for the first time in thirty years. They came, saw and conquered the Dessel plains and everyone agreed Dee Snider was the king of GMM2012. So you can imagine how thrilled we are to announce that Twisted Sister are coming back for round two and will be headlining GMM on Friday 28 June. To be honest, we made it clear that ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ and wait another thirty years and they took the hint. Just like last year, tens of thousands of throats will roar ‘I Wanna Rock’ so join the party in front of the main stage! Just remember: ‘You Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and you sure as hell can’t stop Twisted Sister!

For WITHIN TEMPTATION it all started in 1996, the year of the first edition of GMM. The band has matured tremendously since then and today they are one of the biggest crowd draws on the metal scene. Last November they celebrated their 15th anniversary with a spectacular sold-out show at Antwerp Sports Palace. In recent years, the band has also pushed back metal boundaries with stellar performances at alternative and mainstream festivals like Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter. True to their roots, the likeable Dutchmen were more than happy to make another appearance at GMM and we’re certainly looking forward to having them.

Have also been confirmed for GMM2013: UDO, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, OVERKILL, HEATHEN, THE GHOST INSIDE, ASKING ALEXANDRIA, SYLOSIS and VOODOO SIX.

Thrash metallers HEATHEN inked deal with Nuclear Blast. “The ink has finally dried and Nuclear Blast Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of the Bay Area’s indomitable thrash metal band HEATHEN!” Nuclear Blast posted

Founding member & guitarist Lee Altus comments on the new alliance:
I’m really happy and couldn’t think of a better label for HEATHEN. I’ve known people at Nuclear Blast, some of whom have been fans of the band going as far back as the early demo days, and have been friends with them for many years. It’s amazing for me to think that throughout this band’s career, every album we recorded has been released on a different label. I can finally say that we have found home. Nuclear Blast has become a mecca for Bay Area thrash bands and we are happy to join our friends and partners in crime Exodus, Death Angel, Testament and Forbidden. Now it’s time to get to work on the new album!

Lead singer David White adds: “I want to thank all the fans for their amazing support; we do not take any of this lightly! Now we move forward with a true Metal record company that really understands what we’re all about, 2012 and beyond!!!”

Jaap Wagemaker of the A&R Department at Nuclear Blast Germany shares the following:  “It is no secret that the staff of Nuclear Blast has a soft spot for thrash metal. We all grew up here with classics such as Breaking The Silence and Victims Of Deception, and who doesn’t remember that legendary tour from 1991 with SEPULTURA, SACRED REICH and HEATHEN destroying the stages night after night! We are totally stoked to announce that these legendary Bay Area Thrashers have inked a deal with us and are now labelmates with EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL,TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN, ANTHRAX, SEPULTURA, OVERKILL, KREATOR, DESTRUCTION and TANKARD!!! Since HEATHEN’s reunion for Thrash of the Titans, we had been following the band very closely over the last couple of years with first-hand information from Lee Altus – who is also swinging the axe in EXODUS – and what we heard from him made us very curious! After seeing HEATHEN play an amazing show at Rock Hard and their release of another classic album with The Evolution of Chaos, it was very clear to us that the band needed to become part of the Nuclear family as well. Seeing the band play several times at last year’s Thrashfest Classics, we were finally able to make this work!! With the signing of HEATHEN, another thrash dream has came true!! Welcome home guys!!!

Forged in the fertile breeding ground of the Bay Area’s thrash scene in 1984 and debuting onto the worldwide tape-trading scene in 1986 with their six-song “Pray For Death” demo, HEATHEN went on to create the now classic Breaking The Silence in 1987 (whose opening track “Death By Hanging” quickly became a live staple) and 1991’s Victims Of Deception, which included the nine-and-a-half minute opus “Heathen’s Song.”

Reunited in 2001 for San Francisco’s Thrash of the Titans benefit for Testament’s Chuck Billy and Death’s Chuck Schuldiner, HEATHEN reemerged in full force after a 19-year absence with stellar reviews for 2010’s The Evolution Of Chaos and will begin recording their fourth studio album later this year.

HEATHEN has performed their brand of guitar-driven, fuel-injected thrash metal in Europe at numerous summer festivals, on the Thrash Fest Classics tour with co-headliners Exodus & Sepultura, and the Killfest tour with Overkill, in North America on last year’s spring tour with Destruction, and most recently at the “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” memorial in Oakland in February. Their live sets continually test the endurance of headbanging audiences everywhere.

HEATHEN 2012 is:

  • David White on vocals
  • Lee Altus on guitar
  • Kragen Lum on guitar
  • Jason Viebrooks on bass
  • Darren Minter on drums

It was almost a decade ago — on January 31, 2002 — that Paul Baloff suffered a major stroke and was brought to Highland General Hospital in Northern California, where he remained in a coma until he was declared brain dead. On February 2, 2002, his doctors shut off his life support, leaving him to die in his sleep. He had no previous known health problems, and the stroke was a complete surprise to everyone around him.

On the fifth anniversary of Baloff‘s passing, EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt said, “[Paul's] contribution to metal lives on. How else can you explain how a guy can record one album (twice!) and still be remembered as a thrash legend to this very day? Raise those glasses high, and hide your wallets, because Paul might just be right behind you!”

“Let There Be Blood”, the controversial re-recording of EXODUS‘ classic 1985 debut album, “Bonded by Blood”, was issued in October 2008 through Zaentz Records.

Regarding the band’s decision to re-record “Bonded By Blood”, Holt previously said: “It is our way of paying homage to Paul Baloff by showing how relevant these songs we had written together still are. We aren’t trying to replace the original; that’s impossible anyway. We are just giving these songs the benefit of modern production. It’s something we talked about before Paul‘s death and it’s always been important to us to do. We were super-excited about entering the studio once again to record these classics.” Current EXODUS vocalist Rob Dukes added, “Paul was rad, totally original. He was not like [METALLICA's James] Hetfield or [SLAYER's Tom] Araya. I think at times he wanted to be, but he was simply himself. He had a really cool way of going up with his voice in the weirdest spots. I, myself, find it cool and original.”
