Northern Fury has conducted an interview with vocalist Dolk of Norwegian old-school black metallers KAMPFAR when the performed in Portland, Oregon on September 7, 2011 as part of “The Black Path Of America Tour 2011″ with VREID and NECRONOMICON. You can now watch the chat HERE.

“The Black Path Of America Tour 2011″ marked KAMPFAR‘s very first time touring on North American soil, and the latest volley of dates supporting new album “Mare”, released this past spring by Napalm Records. The follow-up to 2008′s “Heimgang” was recorded at Abyss studios in Pärlby, outside Ludvika, Sweden with producer Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN).

According to a press release, “Mare” “opens a new chapter in the Norwegian band’s history, while delivering a true monument to black metal. Frontman Dolk and the rest of the band have achieved the difficult task of giving their sound new impulses without losing their unique style. Isolated keyboard passages and sprechgesang consort with icy riffs, dark melodies, and oppressive drums. Dolk‘s raw vocals continue to set the pace, while giving songs like ‘Bergtatt’, ‘Volvevers’ and the title track such intensity that they are left with no other choice but to crawl under the skin of even the most discerning black and pagan metal fans. The album was produced by none other than Peter Tägtgren (Abyss Studio), who provided the songs with a piercing and very powerful sound. ‘Mare’ is the pagan black metal masters’ best work to date and is sure to become the genre’s next cult classic.”

Vocalist Dolk of Norwegian old-school black metallers KAMPFAR has released the following statement:

“This was not supposed to be revealed yet. But I decided to do so through [my] personal [online] profile. Even my bandmates don’t know this yet. But I have now finally started my longtime plan to do/write a book. This has been an idea I had for ages now, due to all the questions I get from the ‘media’ about this theme/topic/period of time.

“I have been so tired, in a way, to tell parts of this story without being able to tell the whole story. So the book will be about the early years in black metal and about my side of the story of it all. This book will step on someone’s toes, that’s for sure. But it’s my side of the story. This book is for those who are interested (and it’s some sort of a soul and mind surfer for me personal). To the rest… Well, I don’t give a fuck!! It’s all very early in the process yet. But I have decided to go all the way now.

“Anyway… This has been a long process for me and a big step to make it official. Besides my woman, you are the first ones to know this at all.”

KAMPFAR has been confirmed as direct support for VREID on a North American tour which is slated to begin in late August and run through mid-September. This will be KAMPFAR‘s very first time touring on North American soil, and the latest volley of dates supporting new album “Mare”, released this past spring by Napalm Records. Bassist Jon Bakker will be forced to sit out the upcoming European tour by Norwegian old-school black metallers KAMPFAR due to undisclosed “family issues.” The band says in a statement, “Initially we were reluctant to perform without his presence, but we are lucky to have a solid replacement lined up. Endre Moe, known from TRAIL OF TEARS, is an old friend and has been on the road with us many times before. The step up to bass duties is a natural one, and after a weekend of intense rehearsing we’re happy to say that this solution will be a very good one.”

KAMPFAR‘s European tour will kick off on May 27 in Bochum, Germany. Also appearing on the trek are SECRETS OF THE MOON, VREID and KRAKOW.

Founding KAMPFAR vocalist Dolk had the following to say: “After a decade and a half, we will finally hit the States and Canada, and after several offers to go there have been turned down — KAMPFAR will finally join our ‘American Horde.’ It will be a meeting in honor and deep respect towards all those that have never lost their faith in us over there! It will be an inferno when we join forces in August and September!”

Norwegian black metal overlords VREID will embark on a North American headlining tour this August. Dubbed “The Black Path Of America Tour 2011″, the trek will commence on August 25 in Toronto and trample through 14 cities before coming to a ceremonious close on September 10 in San Diego. VREID will be joined by pagan black metal co-headliners KAMPFAR and Canadian death metal ensemble NECRONOMICON.

Commented VREID bassist Hváll: “It is with great joy we can announce our first headlining tour in North America. ‘The Black Path Of America’ tour is packed with ten U.S. and six Canadian shows.

“We did our first full North America tour in 2009 on the Heathen Fest, and the reaction we got was overwhelming. We had amazing shows in Montreal, Cleveland and San Francisco — to name just a few — and are glad to see all those cities plus many more on the list for our upcoming tour.

“Our latest album, ‘V’, is doing fantastic, and has become a monumental release for us.

“We can’t wait to return to the Wild West to unleash songs new and old with our own production.

“Joining us on this tour are our good Norwegian friends of the legendary KAMPFAR and NECRONOMICON from Canada. It’s a killer lineup, and we hope to see as many of you as possible at the shows.”

Norway’s raw Pagan Folklore Metal band Kampfar has revealed the title of their 9th album, “Mare”, it’s to be unleashed via Napalm Records the 25th of march 2011.

Kampfar press release issues:

“Refusing to follow in the footsteps of others before or after them, the band delivered an album that sounds, looks, and feels like the very essence of KAMPFAR music inspired by Nordic natural beauty, folklore and myths. It is dark, cold, menacing, and yet alluring in a unique way. These Norwegians belong to the forerunners of the genre, though they cannot be compared to any one specific band. KAMPFAR does not place the most importance on speed, as do others, but rather on expression and content. KAMPFAR is a self-contained mix of raw black metal and pagan metal embossed with traditional folkloric influences. KAMPFAR’s music is and remains Norse pagan folklore metal, and proves that compromises are unnecessary in creating greatness.”
