Video footage of KORN drummer Ray Luzier‘s appearance this morning (Saturday, April 13) on the Agora Stage at the Musikmesse Frankfurt 2013 fair can be seen below. Luzier is promoting Pearl and Sabian at the event, which is taking place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
First-call touring and session drummer, Luzier is known for his high-profile gigs with David Lee Roth, Jake E. Lee and ARMY OF ANYONE, and has been a member of KORN since 2007. From movie soundtracks to rock and metal albums, Luzier‘s playing can currently be found on over 70 recordings. As an educator, he has been a Musicians Institute instructor for over 10 years and author of a well-regarded, self-titled instructional DVD.
KORN will reunite with founding guitarist Brian “Head” Welch for a number of shows this spring nad summer, including two dates in Germany, one concert in the United Kingdom and at the upcoming Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.
KORN has been touring for much of the past year behind its 10th studio album, “The Path Of Totality”, but has also begun work on a new set of material.
Former KORN guitarist and current LOVE AND DEATH frontman Brian “Head” Welch recently sat down with FEARnet to talk about his own solo work, and the possibility of teaming up with KORN once again in the near future. You can now watch the chat below.
LOVE AND DEATH‘s debut album, “Between Here & Lost”, sold around 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 95 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on January 22 via Tooth & Nail Records.
Recorded in Nashville with producer Jasen Rauch (RED, BREAKING BENJAMIN) and mixed by Paul Pavao, Ben Grosse (MARILYN MANSON, DISTURBED) and Jim Monti (KORN), “Between Here & Lost” consists of 11 tracks, ranging from songs about personal struggle and triumph (“Chemicals”, “My Disaster”, “Paralyzed”) to emotionally charged anthems (“Fading Away”, “Watching The Bottom Fall”) to a riff-heavy rendition of DEVO‘s 1980 hit “Whip It”.
LOVE AND DEATH is comprised of Welch, lead guitarist JR Bareis, bassist Michael Valentine, and drummer Dan Johnson.
Like the album title suggests, “Between Here & Lost” captures the honesty of light and darkness, beauty and tragedy, good and evil, delivered by a band with intense passion and commitment to the message of its music.
“This record was birthed from trials, tribulations, pain, suffering, anxiety, depression, and drama,” stated Welch. “However, we came out on top and the end result is a very real, raw and honest record. We are so stoked for people to hear it! From our opening song, ‘The Abandoning’, to our cover of DEVO‘s ‘Whip it’, to our collaboration with Mattie Montgomery from FOR TODAY on ‘I W8 4 U’, It’s an exciting piece of art and the listener will feel the different range of emotions with the lyrics and melodies of each song.”
LOVE AND DEATH formed when Welch decided to have open auditions on YouTube in 2009. “I picked the guys and then had a jam session in Phoenix,” says Welch. “Over the last couple of years, there have been a few lineup changes as we went through normal growing pains. The current band has been together and touring for a while now and they are a big part of the new music and the future of LOVE AND DEATH.”

Welch, who has just released an album with his new band LOVE & DEATH, doesn’t rule out the possibility of a full U.S. tour with KORN or a collaboration on the band’s next studio album.
“We’re not trying to tease; it’s really a sensitive thing,” he tells Loudwire in a new video interview which can be seen below. “And it’s seriously, like, we’re taking it slow. We’re getting together and we’re hanging out and we’re talking about playing shows and I’m just saying anything is possible right now. But at the same time, I haven’t been on the road with them. I think [KORN guitarist] Munky did an interview not too long ago where he was, like, ‘We’ve gotta be around each other every day.’ As far as right now, it’s all good — it’s all good — and I’ve never seen my family so positive and healthy and happy. There’s no drama, there’s no fighting, from what I’ve seen, the little I’ve been around them. And so I’d say anything is possible. We’re talking and we’ll see what happens.”
He continues: “I’d love to do LOVE & DEATH, even if [I rejoin] KORN [as a permanent member]. LOVE & DEATH is, like, my whole project to just get what’s in my soul out into words and stuff, so I’d love to do always do that, but the KORN thing, man, it’s just… I love those guys and just connecting with the fans again, it’s just like… It’s so cool to feel so welcome, you know?!
“We’re talking about a lot of stuff right now. It’s just like friends back together — that’s the main thing right now. I think it would be something that we would know, like maybe in the fall or something like that. But, again, we’re not trying to pull any tricks, we’re just going slow because it’s been so long and I’ve been busy, so we’ve just gotta get together more.”
Welch joined KORN onstage for the song “Blind” last May at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Rockingham, North Carolina, marking the first time in eight years that KORN played with Welch.
According to Welch, the feedback he has received from KORN fans thus far has been overwhelmingly positive. “Everyone is broken in this world. There’s so much divorce, hate and unforgiveness. For people to see this, I think it’s just really uplifting,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I never thought it would happen, and I’m not sure they did either. The fans just love it, because a lot of the fans back in the day were like, suicidal, and from broken homes and abuse. They looked up to us like their family. And to see their family split up was hard on them. To get it put back together, there is a joy around the people who care about it.”
Welch left KORN in 2005 to become a born-again Christian. The band never officially replaced him and stayed a four-piece, although they’ve used several touring guitarists for live work.

According to TMZ.com, former KORN drummer David Silveria pleaded guilty to a charge of allegedly driving under the influence. In exchange, prosecutors dropped the hit-and-run charge in connection with the March 2012 incident in which the 40-year-old musician — who played with KORN for 13 years — rear-ended another car on his way to breakfast in Huntington Beach, California.
Silveria was sentenced to three years of informal probation, a three-month first offender program, and he must attend a M.A.D.D. victim impact panel.
Silveria told TMZ.com that he had no alcohol in his system when he was arrested for DUI on March 25, 2012, claiming that he was taken into custody over a sleeping pill he took the night before. Hr said that he took a sleeping pill the night before his arrest to help him with insomnia. When he woke up the following morning, he accidentally rear-ended the other car.
Although Silveria says he blew a 0.0 on the breathalyzer at the scene of the accident, the cops decided to arrest him for DUI after being told about the sleeping pill.
Silveria told TMZ.com at the time that he planned to take responsibility for his actions, insisting, “It was an honest mistake.”
Silveria last year joined forces with ANYONE members Riz Story and Miki Black in a brand new project called INFINIKA.
David left KORN in late 2006 in order to focus on family life along with running his steak house and sushi restaurant.

About the new names:
With King Diamond we’re adding a legendary band to our 2013 lineup. The Danish heavy metal band around the eponymous lead singer arose in the mid-eighties from the ashes of another legendary metal act called Mercyful Fate and quickly rose to prominence. King Diamond’s 30+ year musical career is one of the most storied in history of heavy metal, but the tale is not yet over! The most receKingDiamondnt release, 2007’s Grammy nominated album ‘Give Me Your Soul … Please’, stands as one fo the most critically-acclaimed albums in an already iconic discography. You will be treated to the largest and most involved stage production in the band’s storied history. Horror concepts from multiple albums will be used in the décor! Feast your eyes and ears on this creative centipede at GMM2013!
Korn and Bullet For My Valentine need no introduction and we’re pleased to welcome these three household names back to our festival. Why? Because they’re popular as hell, they enjoy playing here and they deserve it. Welcome back guys!
Red Fang is a catchy heavy stoner rock band. After several successful tours supporting Mastodon and a first headlining tour in 2012, these guys are more than ready to make their mark on the major European festival stages.
For thirty years, the mighty Testament has been a tower of strength in the thrash landscape. Ever since the release of their epic debut ‘The Legacy’, the band around Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy has been a force to be reckoned with. Five years after their last GMM performance these thrash pioneers are back to treat us to the best of three decades of uncompromising thrash.
Roadrunner has made an announcement that Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer and his wife Evis Xheneti‘s first child, D’Angelo Draxon Shaffer, was born Wednesday, November 7 at 8:44 AM.
The couple were engaged in May 2011 and married earlier this year in Paris. Shaffer also has a daughter named Carmella Star from his first marriage.
The Internet is full of…stuff. And sometimes, the most unexpected stuff can be the most enjoyable. On a recent journey through the wilderness of YouTube, we unearthed some fan-created remixes of songs that, in many cases, we frankly didn’t think would be all that remix-able. But the results are pretty impressive, so we’ve decided to share six of them with you.
Here are radical reworkings of:
The Amity Affliction‘s “No Sleep Till Brisbane”; Korn‘s “Way Too Far”; Machine Head‘s “Imperium”; Opeth‘s “Hope Leaves”; Slipknot‘s “Psychosocial”;
and Trivium‘s “Dying in Your Arms.”
The Path of Totality saw Kornstretch out across multiple genres and reach new fans the world over as a result. The famed Hollywood Palladium played host to the band as they introduced their new sound to a packed, sold-out crowd. That performance will be made available next week on blu-ray/CD and CD/DVD. The set highlights landmark songs such as “Freak On A Leash” and “Falling Away From Me” as well as new hits including “Get Up!” and “Narcissistic Cannibal.” Joining KoЯn onstage were several of the DJs who collaborated on The Path Of Totality, including Skrillex, 12th Planet, Flinch, Downlink, Excision, Datsik and Kill The Noise.
ArtistDirect.com has posted an interesting list of “The Bands That Survived the Nineties” – and they include Korn and Slipknot among them!
The site’s writers say of Korn, “Eighteen years into their career, this seminal hard rock/metal band is still reinventing themselves…Their latest masterpiece, The Path of Totality, features plenty of EDM producers such as Skrillex, 12th Planet, Flinch, Excision, Datsik and more - proving that even today, Korn remain on the cutting edge of music.”
Regarding Slipknot, they say, “Releasing their legendary debut in 1999, Slipknot capped off the century with an album that revolutionized heavy metal forever…They were the most intense band to emerge from the ’90s, and they’re more intense than ever.”
