ALTER BRIDGE has commenced recording its fourth studio album for a tentative September release.

Commented the band in a post on its web site: “We are pleased to announce that recording has begun on our fourth studio album. First up to record is Scott ‘Flip’ Phillips on the drums.

“Stay tuned and we’ll update you on the progress as time allows.”

ALTER BRIDGE‘s last studio offering, “AB III”, came out in 2010 and included the hits “Isolation” and “Ghost Of Days Gone By”.

As previously reported, ALTER BRIDGE plans to release a new box set on May 14. The pacakge will feature a whopping 16 discs, previously unreleased interviews with bandmembers Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall, a coffee table book, autographed poster, exclusive photos and more. Further info can be found at AlterBridgeBoxSet.com.

During ALTER BRIDGE‘s break, Tremonti recorded his first solo album, “All I Was”, and toured behind it, while Kennedy recorded all the vocals for Slash‘s second solo effort, “Apocalyptic Love”, and toured the world as part of his live band.

Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips have also toured as part of their original act, CREED, who have also been working on new material.

Didier Chesneau (from the band HEADLINE) and Michel Lâg Chavarria (Lâg Guitars) will be auctioning an Arkane guitar signed by metal icons this Monday (February 11th) in Paris, France. All the funds will be given to the charity, La Ligue Contre le Cancer.

This unique red piece has been signed by artists from around the world, among them: ZAKK WYLDE (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ex-OZZY OSBOURNE), Gus G (FIREWIND, Ozzy Osbourne) Dj Ashba (SIXX: A.M.), Shagrath (DIMMU BORGIR), DORO, MYLES KENNEDY, MARK TREMONTI, Phil Anselmo (DOWN, ex-PANTERA), Ian Astbury (THE CULT), as well as members of SCORPIONS, THERION, PAIN OF SALVATION, IGGY & THE STOOGES, LOUDBLAST, IN FLAMES and more

A gallery of photos of the artists signing the guitar can be seen at this location.

If you were at Hellfest in 2011, you may have noticed the big fireworks launched in memory of Patrick Roy, a French politician who defended metal music at the national assembly, but sadly passed away of cancer this same year. With this guitar, Arkane wants to pay another tribute to this great man who has been saluted by thousands of people from every country in the world that very same night while AC/DC’s ‘For Those About to Rock (We Salute you)’ was playing at the French festival. This guitar is red, and so was Patrick Roy’s iconic jacket, the man who held a copy of a Rock Hard magazine in the national assembly, and his wife is actually firmly involved in this glorious project.

More infos about the guitar (photos, equipment) and how to get in touch with this great cause can be found at this location.

Fret 12 Records has premiered it first ever full-length concept music video. For MARK TREMONTI, ‘Wish You Well’, brings together his musical past and present, while delivering a powerful message about overcoming those who stand in your way.

In this cautionary musical tale, Tremonti takes a song he wrote back in 7th grade and morphs it into a battle cry for all those who have been wronged. In this haunting video, the message comes to life like never before.

This short film builds upon the “watch your back” message of the song, visually identifying foes and using the power of music to bring people together in light of a very common struggle.

In live news, Tremonti will be heading out on the road again to bring All I Was to the fans live around the world. The tour kicks off February 2nd in Copenhagen, Denmark and runs through March 5th wrapping up at the famed Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, CA. The tour will make stops in Berlin, Milan and London to name a few before coming back to the US where it will stop in markets such as Pontiac, Minneapolis, Chicago and Seattle among others.

Tremonti is Mark Tremonti (guitar/vocals), Eric Freidman (guitar/backing vocals), Wolfgang Van Halen (touring bass/backing vocals) and Garrett Whitlock (drums).

According to The Pulse Of Radio, VAN HALEN bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, currently acting as touring bassist for CREED and ALTER BRIDGE guitarist Mark Tremonti‘s solo band, has gotten into a beef with boy band ONE DIRECTION. Van Halen called out the group on Twitter after a run-in with them at a hotel in Birmingham, England, where Tremonti is on tour at the moment.

Van Halen wrote, “Fun fact: Was just insulted by that shitty boy band #OneDirection in the lobby of our hotel this morning!” He continued, “No joke. That ACTUALLY happened. That group of kids in #OneDirection were dickheads to (TREMONTI bandmembers Eric Friedman, Garrett Whitlock) and I.” Van Halen later joked, “They must call themselves that because all of their hair points in #OneDirection.”

Whitlock, TREMONTI‘s drummer, later tweeted, “Had a run-in with some boy band in the hotel lobby. no worries. I can’t take a insult from someone who doesn’t even write their own tunes.”

The members of ONE DIRECTION have yet to comment.

Van Halen joined Tremonti‘s solo act last month at the last minute after bassist Brian Marshall dropped out for personal reasons. He recalled getting the phone call from Tremonti. “I’m like, ‘Hey buddy, how’s it going?’ And he’s like, ‘Not good,’” he said. “Totally depressing change in the phone call. And he told me, and I was like, ‘I’ll call you right back,’ and I was trying to think of like a reason not to — not that I didn’t want to, because there are so many reasons that I would want to. And it totally worked out.”

Tremonti is touring in support of his first solo disc, “All I Was”. He just finished a headlining stint on the HardDrive Live tour and is in Europe for a series of gigs.

Van Halen the band is off the road for the rest of 2012 while Eddie Van Halen recovers from surgery on his intestinal tract, which means Wolfgang has at least a few more months to stay on the road with Tremonti. The latter has expressed interest in recording with Wolfgang as well.
