ANTHRAX is preparing to hit the road as part of the Metal Alliance Tour where it will be perform its classic 1987 album, “Among The Living”, in its entirety.

Video footage of ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante getting his chops ready for the tour can be viewed below.

The Metal Alliance Tour, which also features EXODUS, HIGH ON FIRE, MUNICIPAL WASTE, HOLY GRAIL and SHADOWS FALL on select dates, is scheduled to kick off on March 22 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.

ANTHRAX recently tapped former TESTAMENT/SLAYER and current ANIMETAL USA drummer Jon Dette to sit behind the kit for the veteran thrash metal band’s Australian tour, which kicked off on February 21 in Brisbane. Dette filled in as a temporary replacement for Benante, who was “dealing with personal issues right now and can’t leave” the U.S., according to ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian.

Dette previously filled in for Benante on ANTHRAX‘s European tour last fall as the support act for MOTÖRHEAD.

Benante and his wife were arrested on July 27, 2012 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Elkhart, Indiana for domestic battery in front of a child. The drummer later issued a statement through his attorney claiming that he “was assaulted several times during an altercation that sent him to the emergency room with a gash at the back of his head that required several staples to close.”

Charlie and ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello (who is Benante‘s nephew) missed several shows on ANTHRAX‘s North American tour in February 2012 in order to spend time with Charlie‘s mother, who was terminally ill. On February 4, 2012, Benante informed fans via his official web site that his mother passed away.

More recently, Benante was forced to miss a number of shows on last summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival while he was recovering from a minor hand injury. Filling in for him was SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner.

Due to the Mickey Mouse executives, EXODUS will be forced to miss the April 12th date of the Metal Alliance Tour, on which they are direct support for ANTHRAX, along with opening acts HIGH ON FIRE, MUNICIPAL WASTE, and HOLY GRAIL.

An official statement from EXODUS reads:

“Because Disney has decided that Exodus is TOO METAL for them, we will NOT be playing the Lake Buena Vista HOB show in Florida, but the fine thrash maniacs in Tampa have invited us to rage at the Orpheum instead. Who’s comin’ out for a Lesson in Violence?”

Exodus is not the first metal band to feel the wrath of the corporate powers behind Walt Disney Properties; MACHINE HEAD has been banned from the House Of Blues venues in Anaheim and Orlando (both of which are situated on Disney property). “Violent imagery”, “inflammatory lyrics” and most appallingly “undesirable fans” were cited as the reason.

DEVILDRIVER bassist Aaron “Bubble” Patrick is sitting out the band’s Metal Alliance Tour after being diagnosed with Streptococcus pneumonia, an inflammation and swelling of the lung, caused by an infection with the bacteria. Filling in for Patrick is his former BURY YOUR DEAD bandmate Chris Towning.

Aaron‘s mother, Jane, has released the following update on his condition:

“The Streptococcus pneumonia has damaged Aaron‘s liver, kidneys and bone marrow. He has been able to cough up a fair amount of infection, but his lungs are still very full. Along with the pneumonia, there have also been a series of side effects that are taking a toll on his body. A horrible case of pancreatitis has developed, which caused his fever to persist. He is still dependent on oxygen and cannot be released until he can breathe sufficiently and the oxygen is not required.

“So now his release date may be pushed back until early next week, March 20? Then he must rest at least a week before getting on a plane, as the lungs cannot take the pressure. I am hoping to get him home on a non-stop flight around the 30th of March. He will have to again rest for weeks. The doctor told me it was touch and go before I got [to the hospital]. We are hopeful for release early next week.

“Prayers, please!”

A photo of Patrick in the hospital can be seen below.

The Metal Alliance Tour — which also features THE FACELESS, DYING FETUS, JOB FOR A COWBOY, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, IMPENDING DOOM and WRETCHED — kicked off this past Thursday, March 15 at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

Patrick joined DEVILDRIVER as the replacement for Jonathan Miller, who quit the band in March 2011, calling it “the most difficult decision of my life” but “something that I needed to do for myself.”
