MY RUIN — the Los Angeles-based band featuring the husband-and-wife rock duo of vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy — is back in the studio deep in the hills of Knoxville, Tennessee recording its eighth full-length album. The group is laying down 10 new songs at Soundtrack Black Studio, where last year’s “A Southern Revelation” was also recorded, with Joel Stooksbury once again serving as co-producer alongside guitarist Mick Murphy.

Mick and I wrote the new album at home in L.A. over the last couple of months,” says Tairrie.

“We write very quickly and easily together, which comes from our being in a relationship for so long.

“Although Mick has recorded the guitar, bass and drums on our last two albums, we have asked longtime friend and bassist Luciano Ferrea to handle the low-end duties so he is joining us in Tennessee.

“This was the first time in many years that I recorded demo vocals and we did such heavy pre-production on our songs. I usually prefer tracking vocals for the first time in the moment during our actual album sessions and I tend to write many lyrics last minute, but I’m glad to have stepped out of my box because it’s allowed all of us to really get to know the songs inside and out and really connect with them beforehand.”

She continues, “We’re not ready to reveal the title as of yet, although I will say that the new album is made up of nine strong, doom-laden tracks that incorporate our unique blend of screaming and spoken word. It also features a cover of a 1958 blues song originally recorded by the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, which we’ve had a lot of fun putting our special red lipsticked evil twist on.

“Unlike ‘A Southern Revelation’, which was and angry and confrontational album, this new one is more introspective and there is an otherworldly ethereal feeling to it. I would describe it as a very sleep-deprived esoteric record.

“I suffer heavily from insomnia and the new album definitely reflects this mood.

“Knoxville is Mick‘s hometown.

“We recorded our last album at Soundtrack Black during the dead of winter, with the studio buried under a thick layer of snow and cold temperatures. This time we’re experiencing the studio in the summer with the heat of the Southern sun and lush green surroundings, which has made for a nice warm change of atmosphere and inspiration.”

Los Angeles based underground metal veterans My Ruin featuring vocalist Tairrie B and husband / guitarist Mick Murphy have just released a new video for the song ‘Deconsecrated’ from the bands latest 7th studio album ‘A Southern Revelation’ which was produced by Mick Murphy & Joel Stooksbury and can be downloaded for free at www.myruin.bandcamp.com

The new video was filmed and edited by long time friend of the band Tor Burrows of Notorious Design and features additional footage shot by UK photographers Andy Watson, Doug Rimington & Matt Alston of the British metal band Sanctorum. Having worked with Tor on their previous videos for ‘Tennessee Elegy’, ‘Long Dark Night’ and ’Excommunicated’, My Ruin invited Miss Burrows on the road earlier this year during the bands ‘Southern Revelation’ tour of the UK & France to shoot her first documentary style film which is due for a December 2012 release. ‘Deconsecrated’ offers a sneak preview of what to look forward to with the DVD

“Tor is such an amazingly talented woman and a true artist. I can’t scream her praises loud enough! It was great having her female energy on the road with us to film our last tour and it’s been such a pleasure putting our creative heads together once again for this latest piece of visual magic” states Tairrie B. Also featured in the video is former Beggars Ball guitarist Eddie Brnabic who filled in on bass duties for Luciano Ferrea who was unable to make the tour at the time.

My Ruin have recently signed a deal with That Authoring Group for their new album to appear on Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz in July and are currently in pre production writing for their new album which they plan to record once again with Joel Stooksbury at Soundtrack Black Studio in Knoxville, Tennessee in August. They will be playing the The Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood on June 30th with special guests All Hail The Yeti & Ana Kefr with Marcelo Palomino [Manhole / Tura Satana] on drums.

With every new offering, Los Angeles -based MY RUIN documents their life and wears their bloody ravaged hearts on their sleeve often reflecting what is going on around them both sacred and profane. With ‘Ghosts and Good Stories’ marking the end of a decade and a true milestone in their career, the magnum opus that is ‘A Southern Revelation’ signifies the band’s seventh full length studio album as a symbol of staying power celebrating their determination and dedication to the fiercely independent DIY ethic that has always been a part of MY RUIN. Some weeks ago I had a pleasure to chat with band’s charismatic vocalist, Tairrie B. and i can assure you, wherever she goes, she leaves a lasting imprint on her way…

Hi Tairrie, I’m Tarja. Welcome to Metal Shock Finland!

TBM – Hello Tarja, nice to meet you my rock sister!

My Ruin’s debut album Speak and Destroy was released in 1999 and your latest  7th full length studio album A Southern Revelation came out at the end of last year. In between there have been many other albums. Which one has been the most significant in your career and why?

TBM –This question is similar to asking a mother which of her children means to the most to her.  It’s very difficult to answer. Each album I have written and recorded is unique in its own way and represents a specific time in my life. I recorded Speak and Destroy in 1999 before I met Mick [Murphy] my guitarist/husband and it sounds nothing like the music we have been writing for much of the last 12 years. It was a very experimental recording which introduced My Ruin as my solo project which I fondly view today as my transitional album after leaving my former band Tura Satana. I met Mick in 2000 and we began a relationship which lead to us working together and recording A Prayer Under Pressure Of Violent Anguish together soon after. 12 years later we have recorded 2 live and 6 studio albums that we consider to all be significant and special to us. I also believe it’s important for your music to stand the test of time and still sound relevant 10 years later which I hope the fans of our band feel when they listen back to our previous albums. I think most musicians tend to feel that their latest recordings are always the most reflective of who they are as artists in that moment and in this moment A Southern Revelation is what defines who we are. I think the back story of why we chose to record and release it the way we did gives it a significance that stands alone in our cateloge which we are very proud of.
