In Flames are: Björn Gelotte – Guitars, Niclas Engelin – Guitars, Anders Fridén – Vocals, Peter Iwers – Bass Guitar, Daniel Svensson – Drums.
I had a chance to interview Niclas Engelin on In Flames’ one-off Italian show, in Milan, less than one month ago…
Hi Niclas, welcome to Metal Shock Finland, and welcome to Italy! What was your first thought of this morning?
So nice to be in Milan and in Italy, in general wish I could spend some more time in your great country!!
Swedish metallers IN FLAMES have officially recruited Niclas Engelin from fellow Swedes ENGEL as their new second guitarist.
Engelin has been touring with IN FLAMES for the past couple of years as the replacement for Jesper Strömblad, who quit the band in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.
The first official photo of the new IN FLAMES lineup can be viewed on left.
IN FLAMES has set “Sounds Of A Playground Fading” as the title of its upcoming tenth album, tentatively due in May. 13 songs were laid down for the CD, which was recorded at the band’s IF Studios in Gothenburg with engineer Roberto Laghi (HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, LOK, SONIC SYNDICATE). The group states, “We are very happy with the result.”
Who are Engel, you might ask? Formed back in early 21:st century Engel set their aim to give the world their propaganda. You’ll know Niclas Engelin from his time in Gardenian & Passenger and a few short moonlightnings with In Flames. Marcus Sunesson spent time with The Crown whilst also moonlighting with The Haunted (2001-02). Joining these two six string shredders are vocalist Mangan Klavborn, drummer Mojjo of the Project Hate and bassist Steve Drennan formally from Locus & Amon Amarths touring bass player.
Releasing their debut album “Absolute Design” in 2007 just set the first step out to global domination. After touring with amongst others Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Atreyu, Still Remains, Trivium. The sight is set for more touring, more albums, more Engel. This is it – this is now! The latest album of Engel “Threnody” has seen its Japan release on April 2010.
But what else are Engel and what are they doing today? let’s ask it from Niclas Engelin, the founder of the band…
Hi Niclas, welcome to Metal Shock! How’re you doing today?
All good here, Tarja, in a grey and cold Gothenburg on a monday night (editor’s note: 17 jan 2011)
