Sharon Osbourne, in partnership with Japanese promoter Hayashi International Promotion (H.I.P.), debuted the first-ever Ozzfest Japan on Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th at the Makuhari Messe Arena, just outside of Tokyo. The event featured headlining performances from BLACK SABBATH – featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi – and SLIPKNOT.

Fan-filmed video of Slipknot in action at Ozzfest Japan is available below:

Sliknot percissionist Clown commented on the experience:

“It was an extreme honor to have been invited to play the first show of two shows at the first-ever Ozzfest in Japan. It’s always a beautiful thing to be a part of something that is brand new for the fans. As always, our love for the Japanese people goes without saying, and we are relieved that we finally got back to Japan. Everyone went off at the show, making it completely incredible…but it’s always like that when we go to Japan. Thank you to everyone for having us and you can rest assured we will always be back. We love you.”

Slipknot have been confirmed as the third headliner at Download Festival on Friday, June 14th, 2013, marking the band’s second headline appearance following an explosive set in 2009. They join fellow headliners IRON MAIDEN on Saturday, June 15th and RAMMSTEIN on Sunday, June 16th.

“We are extremely honoured to have been asked once again to headline the Download Festival,” said Slipknot’s Clown. It’s always good to have the church of the Knot, the alter of the Knot, giving the sermon of the Knot to the congregation of the Knot, the culture of the Knot. This summer cannot come soon enough. Partake in the imagination or don’t bitch.”

“We are excited for the opportunity to bring Ozzfest to Japan for the first time ever,” says Sharon Osbourne. “We’ve got the perfect combination of Western and Japanese bands. Ozzfest is also thrilled to be presenting Black Sabbath’s first-ever performance in Japan.”

Despite Japan reigning as the second largest music market in the world, Ozzfest Japan 2013 will represent the first major international music festival to ever travel to the country.

“We are thrilled to open a new chapter for this legendary festival in Japan,” H.I.P. President Massy Hayashi says of the significance of bringing Ozzfest to Japan. “I think it will be the perfect chance to bring together the very best international rock music and also give us a chance to show how far Japanese rock has come in recent years.”

According to The Pulse Of Radio, TOOL‘s webmaster posted a lengthy message online this week in which he claims that the band may be “more than halfway” finished writing the music for their fifth studio effort. The webmaster wrote, “While riding with Danny [Carey, drums] to Chili John’s yesterday, I heard a lot of new TOOL music (sans Maynard [James Keenan, vocals]). This was the most new material that I’ve heard so far, although a few of the riffs and arrangements were familiar.”

He added, “Dare I say that it sounded like . . . TOOL (some of it reminiscent to earlier TOOL stuff, with other parts pushing the envelope), and I assume that it will sound even more like TOOL once the vocal melodies, etc. have been added. To answer your next question, I cannot say how far along in the writing process the band is. If I had to GUESS, I would say more than half way (and keep in mind that in the past, at least, the writing went faster once the first few [more complex] songs were finished).”

Earlier in the message, the webmaster writes that the band is confirmed to play the Japanese edition of Ozzfest in May 2013, hinting that other dates may be on tap as well. He also adds, “There are a couple of other TOOL projects on the horizon that I am privy to, but, unfortunately, can’t comment on any further at this time . . . as was requested by the band’s management.”

TOOL‘s last album, “10,000 Days”, came out in 2006.

Since that time the band has toured intermittently almost every year, while Keenan has spent the bulk of his time tending to his Arizona vineyard business and writing and recording two albums with PUSCIFER.
