What happens when you combine Björn Strid (SOILWORK), Jon Howard (THREAT SIGNAL), Chris Clancy (ex-MUTINY WITHIN), Peter Wichers (SOILWORK), Brandon Jacobs (ex-MUTINY WITHIN), Andy James (SACRED MOTHER TONGUE), Angel Vivaldi (VEXT), and musical genius Frederic Riverin?  Simple: you get one kick ass metal record in the form of the band I LEGION.

I LEGION have officially released their debut album titled Beyond Darkness.

I LEGION is the musical work of Frederic Riverin, who spent the better part of 2011 crafting his latest project. With the help of producer and vocalist Chris Clancy, they both created the melodic metal sounds of what would become the debut album titled Beyond Darkness.  Metal monsters Björn Strid, Jon Howard, and Chris Clancy handled vocal duties for the epic 12 track masterpiece.  Modern guitar heroes Peter Wichers, Andy James, Angel Vivaldi, and Brandon Jacobs all contributed to the tasteful melodic lead guitar playing.

All these musicians helped Frederic to create his own album: alone, but with a legion behind him. The I LEGION.

BLINDED IN BLISS Featuring SOILWORK, THREAT SIGNAL Members: New Video Released

“The Idea Of Poverty”, the new video from BLINDED IN BLISS — the Ontario, Canada-based metal band featuring current and former members of SOILWORK, THREAT SIGNAL and MUTINY WITHIN — can be seen below. The clip was directed and produced by Tommy Jones of The Studio.


“The Idea Of Poverty” comes off BLINDED IN BLISS‘s debut album, “Constancy”, which was released independently on February 14. The CD was produced and engineered by Jon Howard of THREAT SIGNAL at his home studio, Woodward Avenue, in Hamilton, Ontario. The effort was mixed by Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, CHIMAIRA, DEVILDRIVER), with additional mix engineering by Eyal Levi, at Audiohammer studios in Sanford, Florida. The mastering duties were handled by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (SEPULTURA, SUFFOCATION, UNEARTH) in New Windsor, New York.

* Rudy Martinez – Vocals
* Baron Pierce – Guitar

CHILDREN OF BODOM – Video From Austin In-Store Signing Session Available

On February 21st, Finland’s CHILDREN OF BODOM stopped in Austin, TX on their current North American tour with ELUVEITIE, REVOCATION and THREAT SIGNAL. Frontman Alexi Laiho, guitarist Roope Latvala and bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith stopped by Austin Bazaar for an in-store signing before the show. A recap of the day, including footage from the show at Emo’s, is available below:

THREAT SIGNAL is a Canadian Melodic Death Metal band hailing from the city of Hamilton. However, different members of the band hail from other parts of the Ontario province. Since the band’s formation in 2003, Threat Signal has released three studio albums, the latest one, self-titled “Threat Signal” came out last month (October 2011) via Nuclear Blast. Just before the release I had a chance to interview band’s singer Jon Howard, and here’s what we talked about…

Hi Jon, I’m Tarja, welcome to Metal Shock Finland! Your band name, Threat Signal, what it’s all about? And please give a short presentation of your band members…

Originally the name Threat Signal sounded like a cool name, so we used it!  At the time it didn’t really have a specific meaning, however now I think of it as this.  My lyrics analyze the world and its many problems. I focus on world issues and hope for change to make this a better place. I think of it as there is a threat to our world and we are signaling you of it. Our band members include myself Jon Howard – Vocals, Travis Montgomery – Guitar, Chris Feener – Guitar, Alex Rudinger – Drums, Pat Kavanagh – Bass.
