It is well known that the Woodstock and Altamont festivals in the late ’60s were out of control. Bad, brown acid that brought on paralysing bad trips, and a mud bath for a venue that deteriorated into a sewer, are nothing on DEEP PURPLE‘s tour of Jakarta in 1975. The band’s visit – the first to the Indonesian capital by a western rock band – began with excitement, intrigue and a tank-led motorcade from the airport, but soon descended into intimidation, reneged contracts, mayhem, riots, guard dogs, sabotage, death and jail. Welcome to Deep Purple’s Jakarta nightmare…..1975 is the working title and the treatment for the film is currently being written with various production companies in discussion for the rights to this incredible story. Vocalist LIV KRISTINE (LEAVES’ EYES) has updated her December solo show schedule. The dates are in support of her new album, Libertine (out now), and will include a “best of” set including songs from Libertine and THEATRE OF TRAGEDY songs.

A trailer for “Tragic Idol”, the new album from British gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST, can be seen below. Due on April 24 (one day earlier internationally) via Century Media Records, the CD was recorded in part at The Chapel studios in Lincolnshire, England and features cover art by by Parisian designer Valnoir, who has previously worked with MORBID ANGEL, LAIBACH, ULVER and WATAIN, among others. IRON MAIDEN: ‘En Vivo!’ Steel Book Trailer Available

EMI has set a March 26 release date for “En Vivo!”, the new concert Blu-Ray, two-DVD set and double soundtrack album from legendary British metallers IRON MAIDEN. In addition to the Blu-Ray, the two-DVD will initially be available as a limited-edition double DVD in collectors’ steel book case and double vinyl picture disc. As well as a traditional two-CD soundtrack album, “En Vivo!” will be available as a digital download CD soundtrack album and digital download video.

DEEP PURPLE, EDGUY, HELLOWEEN Members Featured On ‘Help! For Japan’ EP; Trailer Available

Some of Europe’s leading rock artists — including current and former members of DEEP PURPLE, EDGUY, HELLOWEEN, GOTTHARD, MAGNUM, KROKUS and TNT — have joined a campaign initiated by singer Tommy Heart (SOUL DOCTOR, FAIR WARNING) to raise money for the victims of the massive earthquake and tsunami which devastated Japan’s northeast coast this past March. The musicians have recorded a cover version of the classic THE BEATLES song “Help” for an EP entitled “Help! For Japan”, which will be released in Europe on the German label Avenue Of Allies in early March 2012. All proceeds from the sales of this project will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

The first trailer for “Khaos Legions”, the new album from Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY, can be viewed below. Due on May 30 in Europe and June 7 in the U.S. via Century Media Records, the CD will mark the band’s return to new, original material, after the release of the “Tyrants Of The Rising Sun – Live In Japan” live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album, “The Root Of All Evil” (2009). CHROME DIVISION, the Norwegian five-piece featuring DIMMU BORGIR frontman Shagrath (a.k.a. Stian Thoresen) on guitar, recently filmed a video for the song “Bulldogs Unleashed” with director Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE, KAMELOT), who previously worked with the group on the “Serial Killer” clip (off 2006′s “Doomsday Rock ‘N’ Roll” album). Amorphis: ‘The Beginning Of Times’ Trailer Available

A five-minute trailer for “The Beginning Of Times”, the new album from Finnish metallers AMORPHIS, can be viewed below. Due on May 27 via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD is described as “the most challenging AMORPHIS album so far in terms of both music and lyrics.” Its central character is the iconic hero of Finnish mythology, Väinämöinen, whose tale has been masterfully retold by lyricist Pekka Kainulainen.

“The Beginning Of Times” was produced by the band; vocals were recorded under the guidance of Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH, TAROT) in his home studio in Kuopio. Like its predecessors, the album was mixed by Mikko Karmila. Its cover artwork shows Travis Smith‘s magnificent interpretation of the mythological birth of the world from a goldeneye’s egg.
