Swedish metallers WATAIN, reveal the album cover artwork and tracklist of their fifth studio album. Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of “The Wild Hunt” was done by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the “Lawless Darkness” artwork. The piece depicts one of the inmost shrines of WATAIN’s temple. As on every classic still life, each object has a significant meaning, while each song of the album is also connected to an object.

Watain_cdMetallers WATAIN have recently launched a new video clip for “All That May Bleed” single from their upcoming album “The Wild Hunt”.  The album will be released August 19th in Europe and August 20th, 2013 in North America by His Master’s Noise, via Century Media Records.

All that May Bleed shows but one facet of a quite diverse album, but we chose this song as a first glimpse into “The Wild Hunt” because of its bombastic lunacy and white-eyed malevolence which could be said to constitute a main foundation for the album. The lyric is an invitation to sacrificial blood letting, ecstatic zealotry and human sacrifice. The salt of Satan in the wounds of Christ!” the band commented.

You can watch the video below:

Also the band  announced that on the 24th of August, WATAIN will conduct the grand opening of “The Wild Hunt” world tour in their hometown Uppsala. For those who want to see WATAIN‘s infamous live ceremony taken to a new level; this is your chance.

“The plan is to make this concert everything we have ever wanted our concerts to be. In a touring scenario it is impossible to drag along all the horrors and infernal machinery we need for that, but performing in our hometown allows for a much more grandiose and spectacular stage show and performance. Mark our words, this will be one to remember!”

The venue chosen for this night of unchained metal magic is Svandammshallarna, located in the heart of the city. Tickets will be released on Friday the 7th of June.

Comments WATAIN: “‘All That May Bleed’ shows but one facet of a quite diverse album, but we chose this song as a first glimpse into ‘The Wild Hunt’ because of its bombastic lunacy and white-eyed malevolence which could be said to constitute a main foundation for the album. The lyric is an invitation to sacrificial blood letting, ecstatic zealotry and human sacrifice. The salt of Satan in the wounds of Christ!”

Century Media Records have released the news that  WATAIN  have announced the title and release date of their upcoming album: “After 120 nights of iron will and ardent magic, the fifth fullength album of Watain is now complete. With broken bones and burning hearts we have ploughed our way through deepest winter into a new wilderness, to which we will open the gates at summers end. THE WILD HUNT will be released on August 19th in Europe and August 20th in USA. Beware the rising star of dawn…

The album was mixed again at the Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden by Tore Stjerna. No further comments. More details will be unveiled soon.

Formed back in 1998, the first two albums “Rabid Death’s Curse” (2000) and “Casus Luciferi” (2003) established the band firmly within the underground scene whereas “Sworn To The Dark” (2007) and especially “Lawless Darkness” (2010) helped them conquer a wider audience making them one of the most talked about acts in recent years. Musically rooted in classic black metal inspired by the likes of VENOM, HELLHAMMER, BATHORY, MAYHEMDISSECTION, as well as the grandeur of old IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, and RAINBOW, it is the larger-than-life aesthetics and total dedication to their art that elevates WATAIN beyond almost any other extreme metal band out there. WATAIN is satanic metal at its most frightening and fascinating.

After celebrating their 13th anniversary with the release of the DVD/double live album “Opus Diaboli” (2012) under the band’s own imprint His Master’s Noise, followed by an US tour with BEHEMOTHTHE DEVIL’S BLOOD and IN SOLITUDE earlier this year plus celebrated shows at Wacken and Bloodstock Open Air, 2013 will see the release of WATAIN‘s much anticipated fifth studio album “The Wild Hunt” via His Master’s Noise in collaboration with Century Media Records.

Century Media Records have announced the following:

His Masters Noise and Century Media are proud to announce the beginning of a new chapter of the WATAIN epos! The band comments: “Since the harvest, we have been occupied with preparations for a long and hard journey. Seeds have been sown, blades have been sharpened and new fires have been lit to illuminate the untrodden tunnels that lay before us as we descend further down the maze…”
And so it was that on the 3rd of January, 3 years on the day since the recording of “Lawless Darkness” did commence, WATAIN returned to Necromorbus Studio and begun working on what is to become the 5th full-length album. The tentative time of release is now set for August 2013. More details will be unveiled soon.

Clawhammer has issued that the Dallas-based Deathened Black Metal act SPARROWS are currently planning a covers album paying tribute to Swedish Black Metal legends WATAIN. The band has issued an open invitation for acts interested in taking part in the project. Details are lined out in the following statement from SPARROWS:

SparrowsPicCC

“We are starting the project of recording a WATAIN Tribute Album. If you are a band, and want to do a cover on the album, we will pay for the time for you to record it, AND give you a copy to use for yourselves. Please share this. Any band that can come to the Dallas, Texas area to record is welcome. If you are from out of state and you can afford a trip to Dallas to record, the same applies to you. The song SPARROWS are putting on the album is ‘Reaping Death,’ so have that in mind.”

Interested parties should message the band at www.facebook.com/thisissparrows

SPARROWS recently released Mark of the Beast: Indoctrination digitally through bandcamp where it may be streamed in full and/or purchased for the measly sum of $6.66 at sparrowsmetal.bandcamp.com.

The EP is the first of a three-part series; the connection between the series will be divulged after all three have been released. At a fundamental level, the sound of SPARROWS is rooted in its collective influences, including WATAIN, BEHEMOTH, ENSLAVED, DEICIDE, and GOATWHORE, yet the Dallas Destroyers bring to the table an identity all their own. Recorded in the Sparrows Lair in Dallas’ Industrial District by drummer Bryan Nicholas (who also mixed and mastered it), Mark of the Beast: Indoctrination delivers the goods with unmitigated malevolence. The scary part is that it is only the first of three brazen black metal assaults.

A series of videos documenting the recording of the EP can be viewed at this location.

Century Media Records is proud to welcome Swedish black metal extremists WATAIN to its worldwide family. Legitimately labeled as genre leaders, deservedly awarded with a Swedish Grammy, playing the world’s biggest stages and touring the globe constantly while reaching numerous top positions in the annual reader’s polls, WATAIN have worked hard and achieved a lot over the past years despite successfully ignoring any kind of conformity and concession to the metal mainstream. Unrivalled in their unwillingness to compromise and clear artistic vision, WATAIN are most befittingly described with the title of Bathory’s third opus – “Blood Fire Death”, a fact they never fail to underline with their infamous live shows: The stench of rotting animal cadavers, the inferno of candelabras and torches, chalices of blood, darkness and death – WATAIN are a full scale attack on all sensory organs. In days of toothless, sterile, family-friendly metal they embody danger and dread and are rewarded with a maximum of support and appreciation.

WATAIN comments:
“We are writing this from a magical place of desolation and desert-like vastness, where wondrous things are at this very moment taking place. Things that will come to colour our world as well as yours in the strangest hues for many years to come. We are entering this new chapter of Watain with a will and confidence to make it the most diverse and rememberable so far. And with the things that we have in mind for the future, it looks like it will be just so. Just wait and see, f***ers! Loud and terrible shall the trumpets of Devils sound…”

“Century Media is massively excited to work with Watain. This band has it all: charisma, the firm will to conquer the world, and an authenticity you rarely find these days. Mixed with their creativity and musical impact – this band will make it to the top. They are a healthy slap in the face for any Metal Bourgeois. We are ready to kill for them!” says Antje Lange, General Manager Century Media Europe.

“I am very proud and excited to welcome Watain to the Century Media family. There are few bands that remind me of when I first discovered metal as a teenager that could give me the same feeling of extreme release and evil such as Slayer, Venom and Mercyful Fate did. Watain is one of those rare bands and I look forward to being a part of their growing career and helping today’s future metalhead find their way!” adds Don Robertson, President Century Media USA.

More on Watain at this location.

TeePee of Total Rock Radio conducted an interview with Erik Danielsson, vocalist/guitarist player of Swedish black metallers WATAIN, at this year’s edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival, which is being held August 9-12 at Catton Park, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. You can now watch the chat below.

WATAIN released a new DVD, “Opus Diaboli”, in North America on June 5. The production commemorates the band’s 13 years of chaos by providing a visual and audio documentation of their ceremonial anniversary concert performance in Stockholm and the long years of physical, intellectual and spiritual work leading up to it. “Opus Diaboli” is an epic 90-minute journey into the forbidden realms of wild-hearted Satanic metal and the manifestation of a unique band that has truly chosen a path few have ever dared to tread upon.

Comments the band in a collective statement: “This movie was first meant to be the recording of our 13-year anniversary concert, but as everything with WATAIN, it took on a life of its own and become one of our most ambitious projects to date. It is a very personal and emotional piece of work and is certainly not for the faint of heart. But for those who wish to explore the glimmering abyss of WATAIN further, this will be a rewarding release for sure. The box version of ‘Opus Diaboli’ [available exclusively through the band's own Wolfwear.net] contains an exclusive photobook. It was an overwhelming experience going through the massive archives in search of photos that best sum up the storm of passionate turmoil that has marked the WATAIN journey, especially since we wanted to stay away from live photos and focus more on moments off stage. The results were, however, very satisfying and offer a rare and spicy mixture of photos of which most have never been published previously. We are also proud to announce that this will be the first release on our own label, His Master’s Noise, a name originating from BATHORY who had it in mind for their own label back in the early 1980s. Just like with our merch store Wolfwear.net, from which the limited box set will be available, this time we have chosen to stand by our own and do things our way.”
