Legendary bass guitarist and ‘Voice Of Rock’, Glenn Hughes is set to play a very special show in Jakarta Indonesia on 4th December. Speaking to Metal Shock Finland‘s Senior Manager Alison Booth recently, Glenn informed her of the news:
“I haven’t spoken about this so I’ll tell you – December 4th 1975 my bodyguard was killed in Jakarta, Indonesia. It’s a well known fact, they’re making a film about it actually. So on December 4th this year, forty years after the death, I’m going to play in that city again.
To commemorate the loss of my friend and my bodyguard and to go to a place I could never go to. They threw me in jail for murder and they let me out, we had to pay money to get me out, it was a horrible event. I’m going back to do what I do and play a concert and film, so that’s gonna be kind of a special moment for me.”
Patsy Collins was a well liked and respected member of the DEEP PURPLE staff when he fell to his death down a hotel lift shaft following the band’s show on 4th December 1975, according to ‘Deep Purple – The Illustrated Biography’ by Chris Charlesworth. Glenn and another bodyguard were held in prison overnight, informally charged with being implicated in Collins’ murder, to be then told at the hearing the next morning that the whole thing had been a tragic accident.
The full interview with Glenn Hughes will be published very soon on Metal Shock Finland, including all the latest about Glenn‘s European and UK solo tour, so stay tuned!
