Solo pagan black metal project SERPENT LORD will be releasing its debut album, ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ on May 29, 2026 via Eisenwald Records. The project is now releasing another haunting new single from the offering, “A Pagan’s Spell,” which can be found at THIS LOCATION.
SERPENT LORD first slithered into existence in 2003, emerging as a solitary pagan black metal vessel forged by Jake Superchi (UADA, Ceremonial Castings). Though the project’s first true album was recorded in 2005, the work was abruptly shelved and lay dormant for twenty years. Now, in the Year of the Snake, the ancient offering has been reborn and reimagined as ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ preserving every note of its primordial conception.
The album was re-recorded in the cold heart of the Pacific Northwest between 2022 and 2025, engineered and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk. The release features new artwork and the original logo created by Kris Verwimp, along with photography by Peter Beste.
Originally formed over two decades ago, SERPENT LORD existed largely in the shadows, issuing only a handful of demos before entering an extended period of dormancy. Yet, the creative force behind the project never faded. Ideas, fragments, and compositions endured across the years, shelved for the right moment, only fully taking shape and being realized in the Year of the Snake, when the vision was finally forged into its definitive form.
Early demo material already hinted at what SERPENT LORD would become: a severe balance between melodic grandeur and unrestrained aggression, with transitions between atmosphere and brutality, produced to enhance rather than obscure its intensity.
Founded by Jake Superchi (known for its creative force in UADA and CEREMONIAL CASTINGS), SERPENT LORD channels the spirit of ’90s pagan black metal. The album stands as a triumphant and immersive work – melodic, fierce, and steeped in ritualistic energy. Expansive riffing, evocative passages, and a dynamic interplay between harsh and atmospheric elements, both timeless and fully awakened.
The album was recorded and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk, achieving a sound that retains raw edge while delivering clarity and depth. The cover artwork, created by Kris Verwimp, along with photography by Peter Beste, further underscoring the album’s mythical and arcane atmosphere.
With ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ SERPENT LORD emerges from decades of silence with a work that fulfills the promise of its early recordings; it’s an album shaped by time, and driven by an uncompromising vision of black metal.

Norwegian extreme metal titans DIMMU BORGIR today unleash Grand Serpent Rising, their long-awaited new studio album and first full-length release in eight years since Eonian. Formed in 1993 by guitarist Sven “Silenoz” Kopperud and vocalist Stian “Shagrath” Thoresen during the height of Norway’s second-wave black metal movement, DIMMU BORGIR have never rushed the creative process — and the crushing weight and cinematic scope of Grand Serpent Rising prove the wait was worthwhile.
Recorded in Gothenburg with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström — the architect behind landmark Dimmu Borgir albums Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon — the new record delivers thirteen punishing yet remarkably diverse tracks that push the band’s symphonic extremity to towering new heights.
To celebrate today’s release, the band has also unveiled a stunning new cinematic video for the track ‘As Seen In The Unseen,’ further cementing Grand Serpent Rising as one of the year’s most anticipated extreme metal releases.
Shagrath comments on the album release: “Grand Serpent Rising captures everything Dimmu Borgir has been and become — it’s darker, more brutal, yet melodic and diverse. It sums up all our phases; some songs are heavily inspired by our early years, while others push forward. We’ve made the album more dynamic, with orchestration used more deliberately. The result is a more intense and hard hitting record.”
Silenoz adds: “With Grand Serpent Rising, we deliberately revisited the spirit and atmosphere that shaped our identity in the early years. We wanted this album to feel like a journey through ruin, rebirth and transcendence. After all these years, the fire still burns stronger than ever – This album is both a reflection and a new awakening for Dimmu Borgir.”
The album comes in following formats: CD Jewelcase 2LP + 1CD, 24-Page Mediabook, Transparent Green with Black + White Marble Vinyl 2LP Gatefold Black Vinyl 2LP Gatefold Dark Green Vinyl 2LP Gatefold Gold Vinyl (Norway Exclusive) 2LP Gatefold Crystal Clear Vinyl (Sweden Rock Exclusive) 2LP Gatefold Pearl Flip Waterfall Vinyl 2LP Gatefold Gold with Black Marble Vinyl (Revolver Exclusive)

IGORRR will be touring in support of the outfit’s chart topping fifth album, Amen, released last Fall via Metal Blade Records.
Artwork by Adrian Baxter
French multi-instrumentalist and producer Gautier Serre has been operating under the name IGORRR for 20 years now, yet each new record still resounds with a startling freshness and radical vitality. Gautier’s steadfastly unclassifiable and stunning Amen full-length maintains this impact, blindsiding the listener with a new set of exploratory curveballs and continuing to surprise and unnerve even the most attuned enthusiast. The record includes guest appearances by Scott Ian (Anthrax), Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle), and Mike Leon (CKY, ex-Soulfly).
Since signing to Metal Blade in 2017, the IGORRR name has expanded from one man’s pseudonym to become a full group identity, but Gautier remains the project’s guiding light and mastermind, so he’s the best man to ask to describe the indescribable. “This album is definitely darker than its predecessors, it has such a very weighty and solemn vibe that has never been reached before in IGORRR,” explains Gautier. “The fact that I recorded a real choir in a church helped this a lot, but above all there has been very long and meticulous work on the sound and the choice of instruments, and deep experimental research to create a unique sound design. Of course, because it’s an IGORRR album, there are some more colorful tracks, like ‘Blastbeat Falafel,’ ‘ADHD…’ They contrast very much with the ambient heaviness. I need tracks like these on an album, it helps to really get through it fully focused, like a shot of limoncello before the next meal.”
With an urge to continually take IGORRR‘s multifaceted and challenging sound further forward with each release, Gautier has spent a lot of time cultivating multiple new modes and methods of working since 2020’s breathtaking, critically acclaimed opus Spirituality And Distortion – which even reached No. 12 on the official German album chart. Gautier has always made clear that IGORRR is as much about the influence of Bach and Chopin as it is about Cannibal Corpse, Aphex Twin, and Meshuggah, but the source of specific stimuli gets harder to ascertain as the process is refined. “It’s always difficult for me to know from where the inspiration comes,” he muses. “Music is an expression of life, and I would say everything, even what seems the most insignificant thing, can be a source of inspiration. I would say there hasn’t been one event or one experience that has led me on a creative process, it’s more like a cumulation of everything. I love making music, my brain processes music all the time. You cannot imagine the amount of albums and concertos I create during my sleep. The challenge is more how to sort these ideas to keep the ones with the best potential, the ones that I won’t get bored of, the ones that I really Love – with a big letter L.”

Joe Bonamassa has released two new live singles, “Bad Penny (Live)” and “Back On My Stompin’ Ground (Live)” from his upcoming album and concert film The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork, arriving June 19thvia J&R Adventures. Recorded during Bonamassa’s sold-out tribute performances in Cork, Ireland, the songs continue to capture the emotional weight, electricity, and deep personal connection that shaped the entire project.
The setlist for The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork was also shaped in part by Gallagher’s legendary Irish Tour ’74 era and the raw live energy that defined that chapter of his career. While songs like “Bad Penny” came from later periods of Gallagher’s catalogue, tracks such as “Back On My Stompin’ Ground” connected more directly to the spirit of the original Irish Tour performances – rooted in place, identity, and the uniquely visceral relationship Gallagher had with Irish audiences. That influence carried through the Cork performances, where Bonamassa and the band approached the material with the same sense of immediacy and emotional honesty that made Gallagher’s live recordings so enduring.
Originally released in 1979 on Gallagher’s Top Priority album, “Bad Penny” became one of Rory Gallagher’s signature songs – a tough, swaggering blues-rock track built around the idea that trouble always has a way of finding its way back around. Over the years, the song became a staple of Gallagher’s live shows, fuelled by its punchy groove, sharp guitar attack, and defiant spirit.
Bonamassa’s version taps directly into that energy. Rather than smooth out the rough edges, the performance leans into the tension and drive that made the original such a fan favorite, with the Cork crowd responding to every turn. The result feels loose, loud, and deeply connected to the spirit of Gallagher’s live performances without slipping into imitation.
The release of “Back On My Stompin’ Ground (Live)” offers a very different side of Gallagher’s catalogue. Originally appearing on his 1973 album Blueprint, the song blended blues, folk, and rock influences into something deeply rooted in place and identity. Written during a period when Gallagher was re-establishing himself creatively after the breakup of Taste, the track carries a strong sense of return and belonging, themes that took on even greater resonance during Bonamassa’s performances in Cork.
That emotional connection comes through clearly in the live recording. Performed in Gallagher’s hometown, the song became one of the most personal moments of the entire set, with Bonamassa and the band allowing the arrangement room to breathe while the audience carried much of the emotional weight alongside them. In many ways, it reflects the larger spirit of the project itself: musicians returning to the music and legacy that shaped them.
Early response to the project has reflected that same spirit, with Guitarist Magazine noting that “Joe does his hero proud,” calling the performance “a very fitting affectionate tribute to one of the notable blues guitarists of our age.”
The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork documents Bonamassa’s full tribute set, performed with the blessing of Gallagher’s family and recorded across a three-night stand that grew out of an initially planned one-off concert. The overwhelming local response quickly transformed the event into something much larger, with fans travelling from around the world to celebrate Gallagher’s music in the city most closely tied to his legacy.
Across 14 songs, the album captures the many dimensions of Gallagher’s catalogue, from the explosive intensity of “Walk On Hot Coals” and “Bullfrog Blues” to more reflective performances like “Tattoo’d Lady,” and “I Fall Apart.” Additional footage included on the DVD and Blu-ray editions expands the story further with bonus features including The Inspiration of Rory, featuring conversations with Brian May and Slash, alongside behind-the-scenes moments from Cork and a closer look at the instruments and history surrounding Gallagher’s music.
As the release date approaches, “Bad Penny (Live)” and “Back On My Stompin’ Ground (Live)” continue to highlight the balance at the center of The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork – honouring Gallagher’s songs faithfully while capturing the raw, communal energy that made them endure in the first place.
The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork will be available June 19th digitally, on CD/DVD, CD/Blu-ray, and double 180-gram red marble vinyl.
