MOTIVE BLACK Release Album Title Track ‘Auburn’

MOTIVE BLACK fittingly set to drop title track, “Auburn”, from their debut full-length on Black Friday. Produced by Grammy-winner Nick Rowe (Bloodsimple, Vampire Weekend), the track digs deeper into the theme of the album.

Opening up about the central subject matter of her debut record with Motive Black, front woman Elana Justin says “‘Auburn’ is a song that means a lot to me. It means so much that I was almost hesitant to put it out. I lost my sister to her battle with addiction. She was one of the smartest women I will ever know. She was a straight-A student who aspired to be a doctor. Addiction does not discriminate. I am angry that she will never realize her dreams. This song is about loss, struggle, rage, but mostly it’s about missing my sister and all of her potential. I will never laugh with anyone like I did with Mia. We need to end the stigma associated with addiction. People are meant to be loved, not judged. I miss Mia every day, and I will for my whole life.”

The upcoming album is titled Auburn, which Justin says “is named for my sister’s beautiful
auburn-colored hair. Losing her forced me to reexamine my life and make significant changes. I went through a huge transitional period which included both ugly and beautiful experiences.
The album is a wild ride through that journey of anger, mania, deep love, and self discovery.”

In addition to the vocal prowess of vocalist Elana Justin, the album features Nick Rowe on guitar, bass and co-songwriting credits; drummer Ray Luzier (Korn) on six tracks; guitarist Marcos Curiel (P.O.D.) on the first single “Broken”; and “special guest” Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies on the song “Lift Me Up”. Harvey also co-starred in the video for that track and says: “I love collaborating with strong women on projects so when I was asked to add my vocals to “Lift Me Up”, I happily obliged. The result…an infectious tune, a new found friendship…!”

Leah Brungardt at All Access has observed that “Los Angeles-based Motive Black is the creative phoenix born of singer Elana Justin’s pain, tenacity, and resilience.” Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles calls the band “grooving alternative rock” and “crushing modern metal” and says “Elana’s both powerful and fragile charismatic voice gets deep.”

Auburn was produced at the legendary NRG Studios in North Hollywood, Calif. by Grammy- winning Nick Rowe (Vampire Weekend, Lamb Of God, Madonna, Snoop Dogg) and mixed by Josh Wilbur  (Lamb of God, Korn,  Papa Roach).  Motive Black will appeal to fans of Evanescence, Delain, Follow The Cypher, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, New Years Day, In This Moment, Shinedown.

Auburn track listing:

  1. Lift Me Up (feat. Carla Harvey)
  2. Broken (feat. Ray Luzier, Marcos Curiel)
  3. Let Down
  4. Bloodsport
  5. Caged (feat. Ray Luzier)

  8. Bad Decisions
  9. Fake (feat. Ray Luzier)
  10. Fight Alone (feat. Ray Luzier)

ELDER Unleash New Album “Innate Passage”

Prog- and psych rock masters, ELDER, have released their new, critically acclaimed album, Innate Passage, via Stickman Records in Europe and through Armageddon in North America.

It‘s the band’s sixth full-length, and finds the mostly-Berlin-based band in the post-pandemic era as veterans at the forefront of a league of progressive and heavy groups working in large part under their influence; a stately presence as reliably forward-thinking as they are unpredictable in sound. They are among the most important acts of their mostly-still-emerging generation. Genuine leaders in style and expressive intention. Innate Passage is further proof why.

In Spring 2020, Elder released their fifth album, Omens, and with it established a claim on their most prog-leaning interpretation of sprawling heavy rock and roll. Two years later, Innate Passage builds on many similar concepts, but outdoes its predecessor on every level of performance, weight of its impact, interplay between founder Nick DiSalvo and Mike Risberg’s guitars and keys, the now-settled-in drumming of Georg Edert – who made his debut on Omens – and bassist Jack Donovan’s tonal warmth underscoring the shimmer of DiSalvo’s leads. Alongside DiSalvo, Innate Passage also features a guest singer performance for the first time in Behrang Alavi of Samavayo.

The album is a culmination of everything they’ve done before, and that’s reason to celebrate, but more, it is that after more than 15 years, they’re still pushing forward to places where neither they nor anyone they’ve influenced have yet gone.

Says DiSalvo: “This record channels the surreal world we live in from a fantastical point of view, not super-literally, and how we as humans processed that; everyone on their own passage through time and space and whatever version of reality they chose for themselves. The phrase ‘Innate Passage’ appeared to me when writing the record. Passage and transition are necessary in the human condition and this process is intrinsic to us. All the growth and introspection we underwent in the past few years totally made this apparent to me more so than any other experiences in life so far.”

Purchase your copy of this must-have album, one that belongs into every well-sorted prog- psych and heavy rock record collection, now available via Stickman Records HERE and in North America via Armageddon Shop at THIS LOCATION!

  1. Catastasis
  2. Endless Return
  3. Coalescence
  4. Merged In Dreams – Ne Plus Ultra
  5. The Purpose

“Innate Passage is a milestone from musicians who’ve proved themselves unafraid of reinvention.” CHICAGO READER

“…its masterful, slow-building might recalling forebears and fellow-travellers Mastodon and Cave In. Throughout Innate Passage, Elder prove themselves those bands’ equals.“4/5, THE GUARDIAN

“Elder sind so souverän wie nie zuvor!”
9/10, CLASSIC ROCK DE

“Innate Passage expresses this with unremitting beauty and dynamic craft. To call it one of 2022’s best albums is underselling it.” THE OBELISK

“Album des Monats!” ECLIPSED DE

“These guys know exactly how and when to take their songs to the next level, and they capitalize every time.” 9/10, METAL INJECTION

“Innate Passage is another classic album from Elder and only enhances their reputation of being one of the essential Psychedelic Stoner Rock bands within the whole scene. This is a type of album that will inspire future musicians for generations to come.” OUTLAWS OF THE SUN

“Ein unschlagbares Paket!”
Album Soundcheck #04, METAL HAMMER DE

“Elder zocken wie vom anderen Stern…”
Album Soundcheck #07, ROCK HARD DE

“This could well be the band’s masterpiece!“
10/10, POWERPLAY MAGAZINE UK

“In Grimms Märchen siegt das tapfere Schneiderlein über den starken, aber dummen Riesen. Nicht physisch, sondern mit Cleverness und Schlagfertigkeit. Auch Elder wissen, wie man Wasser aus Steinen drückt. Es war einmal eine Stoner-Rock-Band, die auszog, aus allem das Beste zu machen.”
Album Soundcheck #02 + Album der Woche, VISIONS DE

“Elder continue to forge ahead on their own path, their sound unique, their songs grandiose. Innate Passage is excellent!” EVERYTHING IS NOISE

“Ein wundervolles Erlebnis!” ARTNOIR CH

Melbourne’s prog-metal outfit CIRCLES‘ storm continues with the release their huge new EP The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol. 1, released yesterday, 25th November via Wild Thing Records.

The trio have also released their focus track from the EP, ‘Reckoning’, which you can stream here:

Purchase The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol. 1:  https://ffm.to/circlesthestoriesweareafraidofvol1

The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol. 1 is the first instalment of an epic two-part EP, following Circles’ sophomore record, The Last One, which garnered international recognition and domestic success in Australia (#4 TheMusic’s Album of the Year 2018, #3 AIR Independent Albums). The progressive giants continue to lead the path of the international djent movement with their upcoming release, furthering the incorporation of shimmering, wavering pads, belting breakdowns and propelling percussion.

The next instalment of The Stories We Are Afraid Of continues on where the previous singles left off, by portraying themes of self-reflection and desperation to make a resolution; to fight your struggles and take the first steps to reacclimate to the life you once lived.

Frontman Ben Rechter states:

“The overarching theme of Vol.1 is one of a loss of identity and purpose, and trying to recapture a sense of wonder and passion for life that was once a core part of you. Musically, we went into these writing sessions with a focus on being more direct than on previous albums, steering away from crowding songs with heaps of different riffs for the sake of having more riffs that we personally like in there.”

Tracklisting:
1. Wonder
2. Bliss
3. Sleepwalking
4. Echo
5. Dig
6. Reckoning

Concluding their successful Australian ‘Sleepwalking’ Tour (Destroy All Lines and Wild Thing Presents) in early September, Circles have already reignited their loyal Australian fanbase and left their international community cut and craving. Prior touring history across Australia and Europe with TesseracT, Periphery, Opeth, Fear Factory, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Twelve Foot Ninja cement the veteran’s place as one of Australia’s quintessential prog/alt-metal mainstays.

Order The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol. 1 now via Wild Thing Music Store, which has now launched European and North American webstores (in addition to the original Australia-based webstore), providing customers in those regions with a more convenient and streamlined experience.

“‘Caught In A Hurricane’ is the second single from Beneath My Feet’s upcoming album ‘In Parts, Together’. It tells the story of someone falling. Falling endlessly. Where every instant feels like an eternity. What remains when you’re confined to a formless void/solitary prison, deprived of everything but your thoughts? With reality racing at you an eternity per second.“

Hailing from northern Sweden, on their new studio album Beneath My Feet addresses profound topics such as abuse, trauma, anxiety and grief. Musically, the band combines influences from the American metal sound and the British hardcore scene to produce what is best described as a loving rhytmic punch to the face. Their music brings together heavy rhythm, pop influenced melodic choruses and catchy riffs, an intense blend that not only earned the band a steadily growing name within the scene, but also several tours across Europe and performances with bands like Dead By April, Amaranthe, The Unguided, Machinae Supremacy, Corroded and many others.

Beneath My Feet on the new album: “Having lived through the events chronicled on the album takes a toll on any person, but through sharing experiences with others and uniting in struggle, we can rise stronger again!“

I’LL BE DAMNED Unleash New Album “Culture”

Photo by Frederik Angelo Lunde Jacobsen

I’LL BE DAMNED have released their new album “Culture”. Armed with a constant flow of inspiration from a world gone mad, the Danish band is pissed off about politics, religion, the media and society in general. “Culture”, is more well-structured than the prior albums regarding both riffing and overall songwriting. And, with brilliant production value – courtesy of the producer Tue Madsen and his Antfarm Studios – the Nordic five-piece has finally reached the potential they promised in their previous two albums and explosive live appearances.

With the addition of two new members, Anders Gyldenøhr (ex-Grope, ex-Hatesphere) on drums and Mark Damgaard on vocals, I’ll Be Damned has matured in a musical way that has led to a more serious approach to the writing process. This is showcased with an album – coming after “Road To Disorder” (2018) and “I’ll Be Damned” (2017) – containing less humour, darker and more aggressive riffs followed up by explosive vocals and lyrics that include themes such as anger, desperation and hopelessness rather than sarcasm and irony. However, the thematics of “Culture” still revolve around hatred towards religion and politics, but also newer forms of extreme cultural diversities.

Backed with influences such as Clutch, Down and Rage Against The Machine, I’ll Be Damned fuses a potent yet melodic and groovy punch in your face with lyrical sharpness and unifying paroles – with an attitude.

“Culture” is out today digital, CD and LP (transparent orange vinyl, limited to 300 units) via Mighty Music. Orders are available here and here.

“Culture” tracklist:

1. FuckYouMoney
2. Run Me Over
3. Primal Fear
4. Hell Come (Take Me Now)
5. Anything You Hand Me
6. Let Me Bleed
7. Through The Walls
8. Good Talk, Not Happening
9. Forever, Right?

Lineup:
Mark Damgaard – vocals
Boris Tandrup – guitars
Kristian Sloth – lead guitars
Jens Lunde – bass
Anders Gyldenøhr – drums
