Billy Sherwood – “Citizen”. To say that Billy Sherwood is a man of many talents would hardly do him justice. A member of Yes, Conspiracy, Circa and World Trade, and an in demand producer among the Prog Rock cognoscenti (many of whom make cameos here –the late Chris Squire, Tony Kaye, Steve Hackett, Geoff Downes, Steve Morse, Alan Parsons, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Jon Davison and Jordan Rudess), Mr Sherwood is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and turns his hand to guitar, bass, keyboards and drums on “Citizen”, as well as handling lead vocals. Rather than spreading himself too thinly, his performances excel across the board, and the album has a lush, cohesive sound, washing over the listener, as the imaginative concept story unfolds; a lost soul finds himself reincarnated at various pivotal points in history ( including WWI, ancient Rome, depression-era Wall Street), and encounters the likes of Galileo, Charles Darwin and Nostradamus along the way. You may be thinking that such a story would make an excellent movie, and that’s pretty much what Billy Sherwood delivers with “Citizen” – a gripping musical movie for the ears!
