The French metal opera adventurers AVALAND reveal their new single “Face The Eternal” (out: August 28) from their upcoming album “Chemical Poetry” (coming: October 30). The thrilling track thrusts the grand AVALAND lore into the next dramatic part of their fantasy story. Musically, the single balances heavy storytelling with classic features. Infused with mystical vibes and an ‘80s sound – including a blistering synth solo by Joost van den Broek as well as the band’s trademark choir arrangements– the track takes listeners straight into the heart of the legend.
“I think it’s really fun that you can find both a lot of ‘80s and melodic death metal inspiration in this song. When we had the first demos of the album, that was maybe the weakest track. But when we found this idea of bringing some Melodeath riffing and atmosphere to it, it radically changed into a heavy and headbanging song. It really represents that soft point we wanted for this album between old-school and modern metal,” vocalist Adrien describes.
In this dark phase of the narrative, protagonist Aylan Wilstorm finds himself in a path-breaking confrontation with Death in the Necrolands. In the rich lore of AVALAND, Death is a daughter of Time (who listeners were introduced to as a main character in the last singles “Sail On”, “Destiny Call” and “Faded Away”). “Death is no tyrant, but a gentle guide. She walks beside the souls of the departed, leading them away from the void and into the eternal path of Time. Even if she can scare most of the living, she’s a friendly deity and calls them only when their time has come. She is justice, she is wisdom, and she is the silence that completes the song of Life,” explains Adrien. To bring the Avalandian Death to life, the band enlisted Helle Bohdanoca (IGNEA) as a guest singer. Her performance unleashes brutal, death metal style growls that create a striking dynamic against Jeff’s and Adrien’s clean vocals and Aylan’s journey. ABOUT AVALAND
Born in 2020 from the ambition to be more than a band, AVALAND was conceived as a fully immersive, theatrical live experience. Drawing inspiration from acts such as The Alan Parsons Project, Avantasia, Winger, and Savatage – and fueled by a deep love for 80s hard rock – AVALAND blend orchestral arrangements and metal opera storytelling with dynamic rock and power metal. Adrien G. Gzagg and Jeff Kanji lead the charge with twin male lead vocals forged from steel and fire, while Lucas Martinez shoots his barrage of blazing guitar riffs into the foundation of Camille Souffron’s ferocious bass lines and Léo Mouchonay’s war drums that command the thunder and drive the rhythm. On stage, the band features between two and five voices from within as well as by varying guests, transforming each performance into a truly magical journey.
