Omnium Gatherum’s ‘New World Shadows’ Cracks Finnish Top 5

“New World Shadows”, the fifth album from Finnish melodic death metallers OMNIUM GATHERUM, entered the official chart in the band’s home country at position No. 5. This marks the highest chart entry in the group’s history, having previously landed at No. 24 with 2008’s “The Redshift” and No. 31 with 2007’s “Stuck Here On Snakes Way”.

“New World Shadows” was released in Europe earlier this month via Lifeforce Records and will be made available in North America on March 1. The CD was recorded at Astia Studio 2 in Lappeenranta and OmG Studio in Karhula, Finland with Teemu Aalto, and was mixed and mastered at Unisound Studio in Örebro, Sweden by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, HAIL OF BULLETS, NOVEMBERS DOOM). Swanö also contributed clean vocals to two songs while Niilo Sevänen from INSOMNIUM added “a few guest growls.”

Commented Markus Vanhala, “Here it is, the OMNIUM GATHERUM musical evolution and career of 15 years in metal and this album surely is finally the musical diamond what we were starting to chase once we started this band. Finally every piece of the puzzle are here and the notes on the right places! This is northern death metal without limitations, really melodic and intelligent but still aggressive while quoting lines from prog to even AOR and no less than having also my teenage idol sir Dan Swanö himself singing some stuff here. Like we say it — this is adult-oriented death metal in its most epic, melodic and purest form!”

Engel’s House Of Metal Performance To Be Professionally Recorded For Future Broadcast

ENGEL‘s March 5, 2011 performance at the House Of Metal in Umeå, Sweden will be professionally recorded by Swedish national radio (Sveriges Radio) and broadcast on P3 Live sometime this spring. More information will be made available soon.

ENGEL is the Gothenburg, Sweden-based quintet featuring guitarists Marcus Sunesson (THE CROWN) and Niclas Engelin (PASSENGER, ex-GARDENIAN, IN FLAMES), vocalist Mangan Klavborn, drummer Jimmy Olausson (ex-MARIONETTE) and bassist Steve Drennan (AMON AMARTH, LOCUS).

ENGEL‘s second album, “Threnody”, was released in Europe on November 8, 2010 and in the U.S. on January 11, 2011 via Season Of Mist. The CD was issued in Japan on April 20, 2010 via Avex. ENGEL recorded “Threnody” at PUK studio in Gjerlev, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, HIMSA, SICK OF IT ALL).

The band was previously signed to SPV Records which issued ENGEL‘s debut album, “Absolute Design”, in 2007.

When asked in a recent interview with RockMusicStar.com why he decided to do solo dates at this time, Joey replied, “Well, I’m always putting dates together. Right now, I’m working with some agents and we found some places to play. But I’m always pursuing that, regardless. I’ve been doing this solo for so long and even though I’m with ANTHRAX now, I’m still doing it. It’s not just because I have nothing to do, but because it’s what I do. We really aren’t working that much (with ANTHRAX) anyhow, but at the same time it really doesn’t have anything to do with that. But, the dates are just falling in this year, as opposed to last year. I also play out every weekend, locally. I have a cover band called CHIEF BIG WAY. And we do a classic rock covers from BOSTON, JOURNEY, FOREIGNER, LED ZEPPELIN and bands like that.”

On the topic of whether he plans on releasing a new BELLADONNA CD anytime soon, Joey said, “I have about three-quarters of a record ready. And we are trying to finish it up. It seems like it takes forever, but it’s really a matter of who is available to work on it and finish it. And of course, I have to start working on some ANTHRAX material as well. I have been, but there is still more work to do on that one. So that’s going to take some time, but that shouldn’t interfere with what we are doing to finish up the release. But, I’m really enjoying the music that we are creating.”

Regarding the sound of his new solo material and how it compares to his previous solo work, Belladonna said, “I think that it’s a bit more metal in some ways. It’s harder, it has different tunings and it is a bit more intricate. But it’s still hard and heavy rock. There is a bit of old-school thrash. But I really don’t want to put any labels on it.”

On whether BELLADONNA performs any ANTHRAX or cover songs or if the band just sticks to Joey‘s solo material:

Joey: “Well, it’s all of the above. Depending on the night and what everyone feels comfortable with. Some nights we could do all ANTHRAX, and it’s totally different with BELLADONNA because we are a three-piece. Everyone’s take on the songs is a little different. So, it’s kind of cool that way. But we’ve been leaning towards doing ANTHRAX material, because it just feels comfortable banging them out.”

Norwegian Metal band Blackout Dreams has issued the following update:

Blackout Dreams took the Norwegian music talent scene by storm with their first single Those Damn Last Hours. The hit held the first place on the Norwegian music website www.nrk.no/urort/ for 18 consecutive days (Rock/Metal category)!

The band has now released a new single called Leave This Place and Never Look Back. Will the song achieve the same success as its predecessor? On the 11th of February the song was published on www.nrk.no/urort/. It only took the single six days to climb all the way to the first place of the Rock/Metal top list of the website! Leave This Place and Never Look Back is still holding the first place.

Blackout Dreams has achieved success with their singles, but how will their debut album turn out? Look out for the Norwegian band with their smashing hits, because in early march Blackout Dreams are releasing their debut album!

Day Of Decay 2011, New Bands Confirmed

Day Of Decay has issued the following Press release:

The Danish one day festival Day Of Decay are proud to announce additionally two acts to perform at this year’s festival.

First the Dutch progressive, technical metal act TEXTURES. Textures are currently recording their new album and follow-up to “Silhouettes” from 2008, the new album is expected to be released sometime in the fall through Nuclear Blast. The band will be presenting some of their new material for the Danish fans at Day Of Decay.

Second act, are the rising Danish thrash band ESSENCE. Essence will be releasing their debut album worldwide the 25th February through Ultimhate Records. And to support the album, the band will follow the release with tours both in Denmark and in Europe, as well as several festivals, amongst others of cause yours truly. This band has shown much promise and has already gained a lot of followers, we except a lot from these young talented metal heads.
