Swedish heavy rockers CORRODED was formed 2004 and quickly went from unknown to household in their native country, when national TV station TV4 handpicked their debut-single “Time and Again” to accompany the promotion of their blockbuster show “Expedition Robinson” internationally known as “Survivor”. CORRODED‘s second album “Exit To Transfer” came out on last October, via Ninetone Records… Some days ago I had a change to interview Jens Westin (singer and lead guitar) and Peter Sjödin (Guitar), and this what they told me…
Hi Jens and Peter, I’m Tarja. Welcome to Metal Shock Finland! what was your first thought of this morning?
J: I think that speak for the whole band when I say, we really need a shower (no showers at the venue yesterday).
What makes you so corroded? what is the story behind your band name?
P: We are all old farts 🙂 and all metal eventually goes corroded in the end.
Give me a short presentation of your band members and your most particular habbits.
Jens Westin: Singer/Lead guitar. I try to wake up every morning.
Peter Sjödin: Guitar. Reads alot and just hanging out.
Bjarne Elvsgård: Bass. Smokes alot of cigarettes.
Per Soläng: Drums. Plays video games and short walks with the dog.
Tommy Rehn: Lead guitar. A lot of networking (Iphoneoholic)
Btw, from which bands are coming your musical influences?
J-P: We usually say that our common denominator is Black Sabbath. Otherwise it’s bands like Slipknot, Soundgarden, Kyuss, Testament and so forth.
The band was formed in 2004, and since your debut album “Eleven Shades Of Black” your success has been climbing up to our days… but was it hard to find the “right combination”?
P: No.
“Time And Again” was the theme song for the Swedish 2009 Survivor television series on TV4. Tell me about this experience.
J-P: They (TV4) were out looking for a new song as a theme for survivor, and heard our song “Time And Again”. And we just had to jump on board, so to speak.
Your second album “Exit To Transfer” came out on last October, via Ninetone Records, and went straight into the Swedish album chart. Technically speaking, what are the “additional layers”, comparing it to your debut album “Eleven Shades of Black”?
J-P: On “Exit To Transfer” we tried to get a bit harder without loosing the melodic part of the songs.
To those who haven’t heard yet the album, describe its music and song themes…
J-P: We call our music Hardrock, because it’s hard for us to define our sound. When it comes to lyrics, we try to tap into to darkest corner of our souls.
Tell me what reactions the album has provocated in these last 9 months, among your fans and critics?
J: It has been generally very god.
Also for this album you worked with the Swedish producer Patrik Frisk, how would you define his input to your album’s sounds?
J-P: We often say that he is our sixth member, so he is very important for us.
You’ve been touring a lot in Sweden, and last autumn you supported AVENGED SEVENFOLD on their tour in the Nordic Countries. What are the best memories of that tour?
J-P: The response that we got from the audience, and the fact that Avenged Sevenfold and their crew was the coolest guys ever.
Let’s talk now about your newest video, “Age of Rage” which has been chosen as main soundtrack for First Person Shooter game Battlefield Play4Free. What can you tell me about this co-operation?
J: It was Magnus Walterstad (Audio Director at D.I.C.E) who came in contact with us, and asked us if we were up to making the theme song for the game. So we went for it in a heartbeat. The actual song “Age Of Rage” has two producers in collaboration, both Patrik Frisk and when it comes to the gaming parts it’s Magnus Walterstad.
And what are your next plans? a new album or what?
J-P:We will re-release “Exit To Transfer” with the bonus track “Age Of Rage” in Scandinavia in september, and we will release it in Germany, Austria,Switzerland 16 september, and in the US 27 september.
The last question… What would you say to your fans and to our readers?
J-P: You need to buy our albums and some nice CORRODED merch, and come to our shows 🙂 We are in a dyer need for some world domination right now.
