A SEASON IN THE ABYSS : Welcome To Hell (and in this Dark Side of the Mood…)
Can you imagine more tormented than my soul, darker than hell, more abrasive than the music of the antimatter?
Probably not, but know that here you’ll lose any hope of absolution and you’ll resign… Yes, you’ll growl, drooling at the lips, enraged, you’ll bark with dogs, in the worse case you’ll touch the bottom, molten lead, the coldest metal and you understand that here’s no loophole, none! this uneasiness will not leave you. This is not a doleance but a promise, a dark promise…
After a beautiful retrospective (The Age of Fear) released earlier this year on Scarlet Records, meet the Italian stakhanovists in NECRODEATH, always taken by the prolific Peso (drums) helped by non-insignificant inputs of Pier Gonella, a (luminous) guitarist, and by a possessed singer Flegias, which weave together a conceptual fabric of 40 mins of facing an evil property, of the perpetual research of peace and dark side’s seductive appeal of the human soul, and all the unhealthy wishes it carries along…
Inspired Peso (in this album the percussions are an well-ventilated intelligence, and the musical words are often very vindictive) and hunger which for the 2000 (two albums “Into The Macabre” 1987 & “Fragments Of Insanity” 1989 prior to this and a long split: more info in Sadist and in Raza De Odio…) is working hard to be the worship band, born in Liguria (proximity to important underwater faults due to the game of tectonic plates can give that name, too : “seismic metal”…) and do access finally in 1 wing League. Hard work and kind of non-resolved equation, when we know that ultimately the competition is not so rude, NECRODEATH often exceed the head and the shoulders of other international combos which are often overestimated.
Black-Thrash evolves so intelligently, it’s barbaric but inventive, this explosion is fragmented into 7 parts, pound everything in its path. Epic, brutal and formal pieces, the intention does not retreat to rigid schemas that this musical genre too often requires (the part 3 is a good example), all are calling our recognition and pleasure.
Theatrical drama in “subtitles”, metal up to the extreme, there are shared sensations to beloved listeners of Kreator or Death, but also an unhealthy atmosphere like Belphegor or Watain. Tech and spirited, active and (un)progressive construction make this new album a real discharge of shotgun shell in full face (Part VI is eloquently in its frenzied solos), all packaged in a confusing, but sympathetically offbeat artwork (inspiration: Reservoir Dogs of “pulpy” Quentin Tarentino), recorded once again at the Outer Sound Studio in Rome (Stormlord, Deinonychus, Thy Majestie…) and in the Music Arts Studio at Rapallo, Italy, under the Guiseppe Orlando experienced ears.
Bestial but enlighted, this “Idiosyncrasy” deserves our attention, much more, all of our affection.
Sincerely hope (otherwise it is the insurgency!) that this album will become finally as album of the upholding, welcoming here the determination, courage and abnegation of Mr. Peso, invaluable craftsman and blacksmith since more than twenty years, incorruptible and proud, metal, today with a serious name NECRODEATH to the pediment of the “Panthéon of Metal”, to the sides of revered Venom and Slayer, without that, nothing would have occurred…
Just remember the Words of Joe Cabot in Reservoir Dogs:
– “That’s your proof?”
– “With instinct, you don’t need proof”.
Idiosyncrasy: A Must in the genus.
