SAND AURA is a middle eastern progressive metal band from Cairo (Egypt), formed on early 2007 by both Shung and Muhammed Hassany. SAND AURA is a band, established on the concept (we are all humans), and the belief of the unification of all cultures, religions, and historical backgrounds of the new age’s concept, which was forgotten and lost, through conflicts and wars all over the world. SAND AURA is trying through their music to defeat the new (al-jahelia-ignorance), they believe that the variation of humans should bring unificaton not conflicts. Unification that leads to global peace.
1. Hello Muhamed. Welcome to the metalshokfinland.
Thanks a lot
2. Let’s begin with the question – how your band Sand Aura came to this world?
Well I was just thinking about to not stand behind another bands styles and so we decided to create our new line with creating A fusion of thoughts. After meeting Our EX-guitarist “Shung” the idea seemed to be clear cause we almost have the same Influences and same Idea that we both want to play metal music mixed up with our Culture. being Muslims, Arabians, Middle Eastern and Egyptians was A rich field. So our 1st element was “ORIENTAL MUSIC” and Shung had just finished the recording of “Aljahelia” all alone by himself before I met him and “Aljahelia” means “Ignorance” the Pre-Islamic era. So I started to write the lyrics and create the vocal lines which was Simply inspired by the Outstanding music that he created. And after I recorded my lines and mixed it with the track we were like “wow we do have A unique sound, let’s do that again”, so I figured out the Concept of our 1st EP and we started to work together just me and him.
Then we asked ourselves why we wouldn’t have Arabian sound of singing and chanting and that divine thoughts translated to “Mustafa Sami” and he is amazing at reading Poems and signing with high pitch . his heavenly Crushing sound was Exactly what we needed, then “Basma Abbass” was the angelic lost element and we found her to join the journey and then we recorded our EP and so after releasing a single track and it was “The Sand Aura [From the land of Nod] we started to chose the members and we were glad with such feedbacks. and there was A sound our ears telling us “keep moving forward sand aurians” 🙂 …Unfortunately Shung, Basma and Mustafa sami just left the band but Sand Aura is still working with other musicians and we are working on Our 1st full length album.
3. Tell us about the metal music on the Egyptian scene, and how it is to be the metal band in your country? Do you have any visitors on the concerts?
Actually the metal scene is Egypt is growing up so fast. We are witnessing a great progress after the revolution so we are re-building the Egyptian scene once again .. many great creative bands have been formed and more are coming up with their crushing sound.
For example yesterday 14th of October I attended a great Concert featuring “Bilocate from Jordon, Perversion from UAE and Scarab From our beloved Egypt” and it was A real brain slash and yeah it was in Cairo. A concert that i called it A full perfect step for A new Era, three bands, one hand, one scene, One word “We are rising”!
4. One month ago our web portal has made interview with ARSAMES -metal band from Iran. They have told us that the metal music is illegal in their country. Tell us about the situation in Egypt?
Before the revolution making A band it was easy but to perform it was like digging A river… and as you said, the government were like “keep dreaming Dude, but you will never perform for your Crowd of vampires and Satan Worshipers” … it may sound crazy and voice full of Ignorance
5. Witch bands have mostly affected on your style?
Are you kidding me? Of course Orphaned Land! They are amazing, creative and heavenly Oriental you can say that I’ve studied Orphaned land 🙂 I’ve talked to Kobi Farhi and he liked the band a lot and am sure that he is supporting us . hope that i can share the satge with him and OL one day and now I wanna share you my favorite moment . one day i was logging into my mail Account and i just Found Yossi Sassi Online . and i talked with him for the 1st time and he told me “hi habiby we are on the studio now recording Orwarrior” and i was just like HAH ? I am talking to Yossi while OL recording the album Right now OMG 😀 It is Unforgettable moment.
6. This year you have released your first EP “Elege of the orient”. Tell us about the process and about its creation.
“Elegy of the Orient” was A dream that became true.. And as I told you that we were searching A unique sound that we can call it Sand Aura . The EP Contains 6 tracks, and we can say it’s A conceptual album. my idea of the lyrics was “let’s make A fusion between the cultures, nations, philosophy and history with A Religious background, let’s get Cain out from the land of nod, he have been there for so long time. Lets make him write his Elegy of the Orient and Shung was acting the scene with his unique taste of music. A day after day and month after month till we became Sand Aura.
7. Has the new disc exceeded your expectations?
Actually I have never dreamed about such a big success but I am seeking A High Quality at the next album and more Oriental sound.
8. What are your plans for the future?
Our plans is to Perform in Oriental night Along with great bands here in Egypt such as “Origin” and “Ahl Sina” and to finish composing the next album and hope to go live with Orphaned land one day. Of course I will never stop wishing that.
9. I’m almost sure that your music couldn’t be so famous if we didn’t have internet and the fact that you are from Egypt. Do you agree?
Don’t be that sure …every generation have got it’s glory and issues too at the same time but at the end the human nature will find the way to Spread the success …. And about the internet …we are just talking the way of our age …the language of technology that’s all and I believe that the internet wasn’t the main reason it’s just A way to make the world so fast and so open.
10. Thanks for the interview. Do you wish to say something to our readers?
I am the one who should thank you guys for this opportunity. Hope we can take it to the next step, and yeah I wanna say one more thing for you and the readers, especially the Israelis “for you guys we have played Hava Nagila but on our own way to show our love for such A scene and musical culture “.
