According to Reuters, Jimi Hendrix was named the greatest guitar player in history by Rolling Stone magazine in a list compiled by a panel of music experts and top guitar players.
“Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage,” said RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE‘s Tom Morello in the magazine, citing Hendrix‘s “Purple Haze” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” as key tracks.
The panel of experts recruited to vote for their favorite guitar players included musicians such as Morello, METALLICA‘s Kirk Hammett, ALICE IN CHAINS‘ Jerry Cantrell, the SMASHING PUMPKINS‘ Billy Corgan, MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s Mick Mars, PEARL JAM‘s Mike McCready and MEGADETH‘s Dave Mustaine. McCready called Eddie Van Halen “a master of riffs” and Joe Perry praised Jimmy Page‘s “vision of how to transcend the stereotypes of what the guitar can do.”

It’s widely known that Tarja’s music background is in classical music. She later became one of the most important female voices of metal, first as part of multi-million seller Nightwish and later with her successful solo career, carrying her own name.
After two gems of heavy rock, Tarja can finally go back to her “first love” for a while. The new live CD and DVD shows a side of Tarja’s music personality that so far was only enjoyed by the lucky fans attending her classical music concerts.
The first output of Harus features traditional and emotional music from Finland presented together with more international repertoire. If Tarja’s vocal approach when it comes to rock music is “classical”, what stands out in this new musical adventure is the modern approach to classical music.
Tarja Turunen and Harus created a unique blend of organ, electric guitar, percussion and voice. Tarja has the talent to make it sound warm and soft, appealing for the purists as well as for the fans who follow her with a unique dedication.
Besides Tarja’s metal superstar status, Harus represents the start of a new journey, crossing genres and music cultures. Harus is a rather peculiar, uncommon Finnish word that describes the four tensors that keep a tent together or the tensor that keeps the mast from falling in a sailing boat. Both of the meanings apply to the musicians involved in Tarja’s new project: four members, four equals, four different backgrounds to tie together exquisite classical music developed strongly and in a very stable way, with a taste of experimental, modern feel.
Tarja has declared: “In 2006 we did our first concert together. We had such a joy and fun that we decided to keep on performing as a group. The name came many years after when we believed it is time to make it official. What is special in HARUS is that every concert represents a magic moment. We have the freedom to be inspired by our own emotions. We hope to be able to offer you that spirit with this CD/DVD.”
Harus are:
Tarja Turunen: vocals
Kalevi Kiviniemi: organ
Marzi Nyman: guitar
Markku Krohn: percussion
British Metalers and winner of The Nation Award 2011, NEXUS INFERIS announce that their new album, “A Vision of The Final Earth”, will be released January 27, 2012 through NoiseArt Records. You can watch part 1 of the official “making of the album” video below :
The band will embark on the Full of Hate Tour 2012 in February alongside Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth.
Heavy Metalers 3 INCHES OF BLOOD announce that they will be entering the studio to begin recording their fifth full length album that will be released in 2012.
The band will be working out of Vogville Studios and Profile Studios in Vancouver with engineer and producer Terry Sho Murray, who also worked on the band’s last 7″. 3 INCHES OF BLOOD’s 2009 album, “Here Wait Thy Doom” showcased the band’s distinct, traditional heavy metal sound. 3 INCHES OF BLOOD promises fans they will not have to wait long for the impressive planned follow up. We’re in pre-production mode here in east van and we’re writing our next blood soaked metal masterpiece!! We are keeping true metal alive, so fuck trends brothers and sisters!! Stay metal!!! You will hear from us very soon!!” Shane Clark said.
Niclas Müller-Hansen of Sweden’s Metalshrine conducted an interview with bassist Paolo Gregoletto of Florida metallers TRIVIUM when the band played in Stockholm on November 18, 2011 with IN FLAMES. An excerpt from the chat follows below.
Metalshrine: Have you listened to [the METALLICA and Lou Reed collaboration] “Lulu”?
Paolo Gregoletto: Oh yeah! (laughs)
Metalshrine: What do you think of it?
Paolo Gregoletto: Eehhh, it’s really weird.
Metalshrine: Do you understand it?
Paolo Gregoletto: If anyone thinks they understand it, they’re on drugs. It’s a weird album, man! We listened to it… When the hell did we listen to it? Oh, on the last tour. We did a show in Tampa and a couple of us drove back to Orlando for the night because we were playing there the next day and we listened to most of it. We were just like, “What the fuck is this?” It’s so weird. I saw some videos of it live and I don’t know, man. If those dudes are happy doing that, then more power to them, because they’re still my favorite band, but it’s really weird and I think everyone thinks that, too.
Metalshrine: Probably. It’s pretty funny that METALLICA fans in general, hate it, but magazines like Mojo and Uncut are giving it rave reviews, like 4 out of 5 and so on.
Paolo Gregoletto: I feel that that’s why they were making this album, whether they say it is or not, but I feel it’s kind of to make those kind of magazines… I guess, what’s the right word? Like metal’s kind of the outcast and everyone looks at us like a second-class genre and it’s like trying to make those people respect you more. I couldn’t give a shit if those magazines would review our albums ever! I would never do an album like that to make them like us. It’s so weird.
Metalshrine: I can understand why they’re doing it. They’ve got millions of dollars and they can do whatever they want and they need something to get them out of bed.
Paolo Gregoletto: I’ve got a good thing to counter that. So does IRON MAIDEN. They’ve got millions of dollars and when they get out of bed, they play metal and they still pack arenas and they seem like they’re having a good time. (laughs) I can understand that they do that and as an artist myself, I definitely don’t wanna be constrained to one thing, but I also don’t wanna make a non-metal record with TRIVIUM. We’ve established that we’re a metal band and our fans love us for that But METALLICA even said that “a lot of people aren’t gonna get it, but we wanna do it.” and you gotta respect that they do what they wanna do. And hey, they’re playing the “black album” this summer! Every time they do [something questionable], they do something cool. They made “St. Anger” and then they did “Death Magnetic” and it was like, “Alright, they’ve still got it.” They do some interesting things sometimes. They’re one of the best live bands by far.
