“Slave to the Fingers” is the debut EP of Australian journalist and Rocker, Joe Matera who has been successful in writing a few colorful songs. In this EP, Joe used some elements of classic Rock and Roll (like Deep Purple and Rainbow) mixed with some elements of Classical music from the Romance Era. In my opinion Joe paints a colorful painting on a canvas. This is characterised by small and thin figures in an open composition, the emphasis being on the power of light and a wonderful tonality of colors that dance on the whole of the canvas. “Impressionism” is how I would describe this work and it puts me in the mind of some paintings of Claude Monet or Alfred Sisley.
Starting with the intro, just like when an artist is mixing colors and oil, it is short and not so fast and it’s like rocking the colors with a brush. The second track is the self titled one, and a point where the past meets the present. I feel I found a Joe Satriani in 19th century who plays Romance music with an electric guitar and new technology.
Many people like an instrumental track, especially when they need some moments for relaxing and rest, “Cruise Control” is written for that time – it is colorful and full of positive energies that may help you feel peace with yourself at last. All the notes look like yellow, orange and green colors in a beautiful blue sky as the background. It seems we have Joe Satriani and Steve Vai making an appearance again in “Out Of The Blue” that is a blues Rock song. They picked up their brushes and move onto pentatonic and blues scales, painting another great view on our canvas. However it is not so fast and technical but beautiful and peaceful. Now it’s time to finish the painting, some blue streaks there, one yellow speckle here and it’s done, now take a look at the canvas, Nice Work! “Face Off” is the last song of this EP, from the first note, you getl a good vibe and a feel of saying a goodbye to good friends that you wish to see again. So you probably want to play “Slave to the fingers” again.
In my opinion ‘Bending’ is the unique technique of playing guitar that can show the difference between world class guitar players, master guitar players and amateur guitar players, and the using of it in artwork was really genius. As my final words, if you are a die hard fan of MANOWAR, or if you are always looking for some fast and technical instrumental songs, this album is not for you but it is for rest of you who are always looking for good music. And my rate for “Slave to the Finger” is 7 / 10.

“Rise And Fall”, the new video from Copenhagen, Denmark-based rockers SUPERCHARGER, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s second album, “That’s How We Roll”, which was released on March 21 via VME. The 12-song follow-up to “Handgrenade Blues” “presents a much more sharp, varied and surprising rock sound, which can be heard in both arrangement and production.” according to a press release. “Whereas the debut were pure hard rock and (as the band proudly announced) ‘without one single ballad,’ the boys have this time drawn from a larger scale, music-wise. With reference to their inspiration through their lives, the band is this time also playing with country and railroad blues, but still with their explosive hard rock as their main thing.”
“That’s How We Roll” was produced by Danish hotshot Kristian Thomasen, who has previously worked with some of Denmark’s biggest artists, such as BLACK CITY, HUSH and TUE WEST. As co-producer with special focus on the vocal arrangements, the band used Anders Ringman. Furthermore, Mia Coldheart from the hot Swedish rock band CRUCIFIED BARBARA makes a guest appearance on the track “Redemption Song”.
SUPERCHARGER has become a very popular live act within the last three years, known for its energic and striking shows. Having completed three tours of Denmark, played several gigs in Germany, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, etc., made a lot of festival appearances and supported such acts such as D-A-D, NASHVILLE PUSSY and MUSTASCH, the band has established itself as a live force to be reckoned with.

Fan-filmed video footage of guitarist Paul Gilbert‘s (MR. BIG, RACER X) November 16, 2011 showcase/clinic in Rome, Italy can be seen below.
Gilbert‘s third instrumental album, “Fuzz Universe”, came out in August 2010 via Shrapnel Records.
The “Fuzz Universe” title is inspired by Gilbert being so immersed in the world of guitar that it made him realize that he lives in a “fuzz universe.”
Gilbert is regarded internationally as one of the greatest players in the industry. Having started his recording career with Shrapnel Records as a teenager in the late ’80s, he remains one of the most active guitarists from the original shred guitar scene. His rise to platinum success includes a No. 1 song with MR. BIG, and cult status as founding member of the legendary and highly successful underground progressive metal band RACER X.
The fourth in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the making of “Show Me How To Live”, the 11th studio album from Danish hard rockers ROYAL HUNT, can be seen below. The CD will be released on November 29 in North America and December 2 in Europe via Frontiers Records.
ROYAL HUNT was recently rejoined by D.C. Cooper, the American singer that performed on the band’s two most successful releases in the ’90s: “Moving Target” and the concept album “Paradox”. “We started chatting on Skype from time to time and that’s how the idea of doing on a mini-tour came about,” says ROYAL HUNT founder, songwriter and keyboards player André Andersen. “After playing some shows we realized that the chemistry was still there and we decided to continue… recording a new album — first…”
“Show Me How to Live” is described in a press release as “highly melodic with rich, lush arrangements and stellar production” and certain to “please the fans of neoclassical yet progressive music.”
“The new songs are continuing right from where we left it in the first place, [and] so far it sounds great,” says Andersen. “It will have some qualities of our previous albums, ‘Moving Target’, and ‘Paradox’, but you can certainly expect some cool updates and new twists!”
The follow-up 2010’s “X” is being recorded at NorthPoint studio in Copenhahen and will be mixed at RoastingHouse Studios in Malmö, Sweden. The mastering duites will be handled by Jan Eliasson at AudioPlanet in Copenhagen.

06. Half Past Loneliness

As a companion to the new album, Frontiers Records will also release on the same day a ROYAL HUNT double DVD entitled “Future Coming From The Past”. This double package serves as a celebration of the return of singer D.C. Cooper to the line-up, and makes finally widely available two very rare items which were only released in Japan back in the day. The first DVD is entitled “1996” and was recorded live in Japan just after the release of the band’s “Moving Target” album. “1996” is an excellent summary of ROYAL HUNT‘s career up to that point. The band offers a great mix of songs from their first three studio albums. The band was in top form for this show, with D.C. leading the way. The second DVD, “Paradox – Closing the Chapter”, was recorded in 1998 and marked the end of the original D.C. Cooper era for ROYAL HUNT. It is essentially a complete live performance of the band’s amazing studio album “Paradox”, their most successful album to date. It is a very solid performance and D.C. delivers the goods, while the band’s playing is superb. To complete the package is a 50-minute documentary which shares stories of life in a rock band.
ROYAL HUNT‘s current lineup:
André Andersen – Keyboards D.C. Cooper – Vocals Allan Sørensen – Drums Andreas Passmark – Bass Jonas Larsen – Guitars
