Awesome news as Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has confirmed that since his lymphoma diagnosis, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi has already written two new songs for the upcoming album! Fucking legend.
Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has posted a new blog confirming that the gutting news that Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with cancer has not derailed his spirit or his creative streak.
“Today [January 19th] we got the engines back up and running at Tony’s home studio,” he writes. “Far from being down and depressed about his lymphoma diagnosis, Tony had already written the music for two new songs, and I must say it has given us all a kick up the rump — it’s great to hear him churning out those riffs again, assuaging the Demon C. Takes more than that to stop Tony. Can’t wait for you all to hear our workings; it has been great working on this stuff.
He adds, “I want to thank the lovely encouraging emails sent to this site giving Tony love and encouragement and great vibes. It really does help, not only Tony, but us as a band — it raises up our spirits and restores our faith in this tarnished world.
“SABB fans are good people. Time and again, you have proven your faith in us and boosted our endeavour.
“Thanks, love, peace.”
Awesome news indeed, but more importantly than anything, we’re all still rooting for Tony and are continuing to send him our very best wishes for a full recovery.

Wow. I love these four men beyond what words can even express. The magical lyrics Geezer writes along with the change-ups he does with Bill who gives us those funky and ever changing drum beats, Ozzy’s unforgettable melodies and vocals, and of course the guitar playing that is so uniquely Tony has been my favorite since forever. Ok, well just since 1976 which seems like it. Really dig so many of their songs. True mastery. Music isn’t written like that anymore.
Extremely sad to hear that Tony has had this come up for him. Truth be told I cried for days. But then I thought … love and light and blessings and beauty amplified towards him and all these guys from the hundreds of millions of fans who just love these men beyond measure. Prayers abound in so many circles from so many for a complete and total healing for him.
Love you Tony. Whole bunches. You get well now, you hear? First, before worrying about us fans. We can wait. Hell, we’ve waited 33 years, what’s another one if that is what you need to do what you have to do. Besides, it’s tons better when you have played an album 3,000 times and see a concert =0). ❤
