Multi-million pound plans to build a hotel and leisure complex in the grounds of former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing’s Shropshire estate were today unveiled. The Grammy Award-winning guitarist said dozens of jobs would be created as a result of the ambitious development at his stately home near Bridgnorth.
The proposals for the 320-acre Astbury Hall estate include a 63-room hotel, indoor swimming pool, spa and a top class restaurant. Mr. Downing – who quit the metal band last April after 40 years – said the hotel and leisure facilities would tie in with plans to attract some of the world’s best golfers and competitions to his course on the site.
He said: “I am speaking to various corporations about investment and I’m optimistic we can start pushing through with the plans for development this year. The next step is putting together all the costing of everything, which includes the golf, practice areas and purpose built clubhouse – as well as the hotel, leisure and spa facilities. I’m 60 years old now so I really want to get things completed – that’s always been the endgame.”

In a recent video interview with Valley FM’s Grace Bailey, K.K. discusses, among other topics, his split with Judas Priest.
Asked if he’s happier now, having left the band, Downing states: “I wish things could have been different, so I could have continued. Obviously, ’cause of the passion. In the 60s, I was very instrumental in creating Judas Priest, and it was a hard bullet to bite. But I thought that if this is gonna be the way that it’s gonna be, then perhaps it’s time to step down. I think we had a lot of great years.”
K.K. continues: “It was a massive consideration, obviously, the fans, who I love, and many of them have become very good friends. But I just hoped that they would appreciate that I couldn’t continue with the way that I felt inside for reasons which I’ll… I mean, certain reasons I will never, ever disclose.”
