Rio de Janeiro-based DREADNOX was formed in 1993, composed by Fabio Schneider (vocals), Kiko Dittert (guitars), Dead Montana (bass) and Felipe Curi (drums), after 5 years away from the stages, return in full blast with the release of their second album “Dance of Ignorance” (2010). Some days ago MSFinland‘s Kostya Aronberg had a change to chat with the vocalist Fabio Schneider…
1. Hey, Fabio, welcome to Metal Shock Finland.
Hi Kostya! Nice to hear from you!
2. Dreadnox has a unique history. Can you, please, tell us a bit about what happened in the 90’s, when the band was formed?
On the October, we participated at a School party music show but our band had no name. I chose Dreadnox because a friend of mine used to sketch some cartoon aliens with this name. We won the contest so then we decided to keep Dreadnox as the name of the band.
3. How was the underground metal scene in the 90’s in Brazil? Is there any difference between then and now?
The difference is that today we find very few places to play and which are heavy metal related. I believe that there is a huge lack of incentive and support to Heavy Metal bands. The Heavy Metal bands actually “sweat” to perform live; in order words, we almost have to pay make live performances.
4. In 1998 the band released their first album “Divine Act”. Something you’d like to tell us about those days?
We had too little resources to record Divine act but it was recorded with a lot of faith and will to succeed. The album is fantastic . Very few copies of it were produced/pressed but the repercution at the time was excellent. We hope to launch it again one day.
5. How the album was welcomed in Brazil?
At that time we had neither any contract of distributionship nor any advertising means to promote it. We sold the records with the help of friends and fans.
6. After this, the band disappeared for 5 years. What have you been doing during these years?
We lived the normal life, without playing, recording or performing, until the day we arranged a reunion for a rehearsal to remember the good past Dreadnox times, in a way that we didn’t resist and… here we are again!
7. The second album, “Dance of Ignorance”, was released only in 2010. Why did it take so long to release it?
Well, we wanted to record an album that could really worth it, with a great production, songs, that is, first quality material. We wanted to restart kicking ass!!
8. The album was produced by the legendary Renato Tribuzy. I must say, that I am a big fan of him. What was it like to work with him?
Renato is a great friend. We met each other a long time ago and it was a great pleasure for me and an honour to count on his collaboration in this album. The results were not less than spectacular.
9. Now, when the band is back, what plans have you got for 2012 and the future (if the Mayan calender is wrong of course)?
We want to perform in great shows, and who knows release a videoclip, and we also intend to record a new album, which we trust will be a killer one!
10. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks for the interview. Any last words to our readers and your fans?
First and foremost, I would like to thank you, Kostya, for the interview and to all Metal Shock Finland. And I take the opportunity to ask your readers to get to know Dreadnox and their albums: Divine Act (1998), Dance of Ignorance (2010) and our single Jogo Justo (2011), which I’m sure you will enjoy. Thank you very much and see ya!
