The 4 Piece rock band DEAD CELLS and their ‘Tear down the Heavens E.P’ has just been released on the 27th February 2012 and so, I took the opportunity to ask the band a few questions about themselves and the music.
1. Can you tell me a little about yourselves and where this all started?
We’re a four piece Rock Band primarily based in Aylesbury, England although we all live in three different counties. The band started middle of 2009 when Kris the guitarist and Wojtek the drummer decided to form a Rock band after the demise of their Thrash Metal band Amityville. Natalie joined on Bass in November 2009, quickly followed by Luke on Vocals.
2. I hear multiple influences from your music, but what would you say are your main source of influence?
I guess we model ourselves on the modern hard rock bands that are around at the moment but we don’t like to pinpoint just one band and one style of music. You’ll hear Classic Rock, you’ll hear Grunge, you’ll hear Funk and everything else in-between.
3. The E.P ‘Tear down the Heavens’, how long did it take you? And is there anything else you’d have liked to have added to it?
Altogether it took 8 days. The track “Here Be Dragons” was a single and then the scratch tracks were done September 2011 and mixing & mastering was done December 2011. Not long after we recorded the EP we wrote a song called Right By The Radio which could have easily gone onto the CD but we’re now planning to have it as our next single.

4. What are your plans for the next 12 months with this E.P?
Get as many people to hear it as possible, there’s many platforms where you can listen to it and purchase. We’ve worked hard contacting magazines, radio stations etc. Also we have a few festival dates coming up where it will be promoted. By the end of the summer we’ll start planning for our next release.
5. Do you have any plans for a new E.P or an album?
As mentioned above we’re looking to record a single by the end of the summer and then if it all goes well start thinking about a new EP by the end of the year.
6. How would you best describe your music?
Groovy orientated rock but also unique.
7. The Rock genre over the years has changed so much, so what would you say you bring to this genre that makes it stand out from the rest?
You’ll hear all the various influences from the 60’s to present day but as one reviewer put it: we don’t follow the conventions typically found in Hard Rock, instead taking the ingredients and mixing them into a mix of our own.
8. Do you have any upcoming Gigs, Tours, Shows?
Sat 14th April: Working Man’s Club: Bletchley
Sun 27th May: Rock It for Willen Fest: Towester
Sat 4th June: Wendover Celebrates Fest: Wendover
Sat 9th June: The Castle: Luton
Sat 30th June: Peacock Music Festival: Peterborough
9. Is there anything else you would like to add that I have missed out on?
Thank you to webzines like yourselves that support and expose independent bands.
