Mutant Squad is a thrash metal band from Galicia, Spain. They have been around the scene since 2007 playing almost every club in the area. After their first Ep “Reset the World” in 2009, they have been developing their style and working as a power trio. Eventually they have signed with Suspiria Records, who will release their second EP “Social Misfits” early this year. This new work has been recorded on Ultrasound Studios with producer Pedro Mendes and mixed by Daniel Cardoso (Angelus Apatrida, Noctem, Switchtense, Agónica…)
The Ep starts with Black Harvest straight away you get pummelled with the drum beat then the guitar kicks in with a cracking riff, which gets my head nodding instantly. The vocals on this song are very good they are harsh with some high pitch screams in which bodes well. Halfway through the song you have a cracking little solo but that drum beat keeps my head nodding right the way through the song. Remember starts powerfully with the drums and guitars combined a nice little bass solo between then the shredding guitars come ripping in with the vocals. This song really gets me in mood for a good old fashioned rock out. The Machine e starts with a good little riff then the song really takes off with another cracking riff reminds me of the early days of thrash cracking riffs good vocals pounding drums and something to really bang your head to. Later in the song you have a screaming solo and yet another good riff then it slows a little bit but with some classic style riffs. Then picks up again at the end that leaves you begging for more. Cannon Fodder is the last track of the Ep starts with a heavy guitar riff then it turns into a galloping riff with the drums following with every beat. The heavy vocals kick in with the guitars are good they work really well. This song is a great ending to the Ep.
Overall
This Ep is full of classic style riffs pounding drums, quality vocals you can hear that they have been influenced by some of the classic bands like Testament, Megadeth, Overkill, Coroner, Sodom and Pantera in the way they play. I finished listening to this Ep and I wanted more it is a really good classic Thrash Ep. I think if they are given a chance to play a festival book them you won’t be disappointed.
