GMM METAL QUEST 2012
This year we’re also introducing the GMM METAL QUEST 2012 or a quest for the most talented Belgian metal band of the year. For the last twelve months, ten metal experts roamed the Belgian metal scene in search of their favourite metal band. The winner gets a slot at the actual festival. The result of our quest is to be announced in the week of Monday 4 June. As of that date, visitors to http://www.hln.be can check the shortlist of the most promising Belgian bands of the last year and cast their vote. The top three will compete in the Metal Dome between 6 and 9pm on Thursday 21 June for a place in the festival lineup. The victors will bear the title ‘Graspop Metal Meeting 2012 band’ for the next twelve months and will open for an international act at Biebob or Trix. The winners will also play the metal stage of Dessel Swingt and as if that’s not enough they also get to record a CD (incl. first 100 copies).
BEST OF THE BEST TOP100
Just to get you in the mood, we’re throwing a ‘Best of the Best Metal Albums of all Time’ bash that’ll stretch into the wee hours of the morning. And guess what? You get to choose the playlist! Use the following link to send us your top5 before 19 May.
METAL DOME AFTER PARTY
During the day, the Metal Dome hosts a bunch of great gigs. Every night at midnight, the Metal Dome sets the stage for a METAL DOME AFTER PARTY that stretches into the small hours. We’re talking a true metal fest including special DJ sets, large video screens, mind-blowing light and pyrotechnics shows and live performances by a burlesque ensemble. Several gorgeous ladies will put on a sexy burlesque show to make your nights a little less lonely. Just to keep things interesting and fresh they’re performing a new act each night!
METAL TOWN ALMOST SOLD OUT
Graspop Metal Town, located at just 1km from the festival arena, is a veritable open air hotel with its proper sanitary facilities, breakfast tent, bar and reception desk. You can either spend the night in a festihut or you can book a pitch for your motorhome, caravan or tent.
If you’re going to have a few after the last band has left the stage but you’d still like to catch a few hours of comfortable sleep, then Metal Town is definitely the ticket!
Don’t wait too long to book your festihut or pitch because Metal Town is almost sold out!

TRAIN INFO: DO NOT FORGET TO DOWNLOAD YOUR E-TRAIN TICKET
Graspop Metal Meeting, the SNCB and De Lijn join forces to carry you in a safe and smooth way to the festival site. The train journey and bus ride from Mol station to the festival site are included in the ordinary admission ticket.
!!Not all the festival tickets are a valid SNCB ticket. Do you have an e-festival ticket for Graspop and do you take the train to go to the festival? Then you have to order a free e-train ticket! Your e-festival ticket alone does not allow you to travel by train since it is not a valid SNCB ticket. More info: http://www.sncb.be/graspop
PAY A FARE RATE FOR A TAXI
Novelty at this year’s edition is a dedicated taxi area where visitors can catch a taxi home or to their hotel at all hours of the day (or night). Only licensed taxi drivers with proper authorisation from the event organiser are allowed to pick up festivalgoers in this area. These taxi drivers have committed themselves to charging fair rates and will also run their meters. Recommended maximum rates are 20 € for a fare to the station and 1.90 €/km. Every year the festival also attracts taxi companies that charge inflated prices so we would strongly advise against taking a taxi outside the dedicated taxi area.
NEW PICK-UP POINT FOR SHUTTLE BUS STATION – FESTIVAL
The pick-up point for the shuttle bus that runs between Mol station and the festival park has moved to a new location. The new bus stop is situated midway (600m or just under half a mile) between Metal Town and the entrance to the campsite and the festival arena.
Timetable:
Thursday: from 10am until the last train arrives at Mol railway station
Friday, Saturday and Sunday: from 7am until the last train in the direction of Hasselt or Antwerp leaves Mol station
Monday: between 6am and – approximately – 2pm
There’s no fixed timeteable. The festival bus simply runs in a continuous loop and picks up the fans waiting at the pick-up point.
!! If you choose to go home at the end of each festival day, you should keep in mind that the last train out of Mol station is scheduled around half past ten. This means you won’t catch the last few bands of the evening as each festival day ends around 1 am (depending on the day).
