Ex Black Sabbath Singer Tony Martin will be doing a one off UK performance at THE ASYLUM Birmingham. There will only be this ONE show on July 27th . Support will come from local hero Blaze Bailey.
Tony Martin was the voice that breathed new life into Black Sabbath back in the 80’s. At the time the band were struggling to keep credibility and there had been a succession of various singers with various degrees of longevity and success. Some very famous names had fronted the band but when Tony Martin joined he was a complete unknown! He ended up being the second longest serving singer for the band, and his tenure spanned from 1987 with the “Eternal Idol” album … through to “Sabbath Stones” which marked the end of his time with the band in 1997.
Tony was largely left out of the music media and press for many years, and all his albums were deleted from sale.(I Smell Sharon) A couple of ventures as a solo artist left little mark as the companies went bust or catalogues were deleted.
Its been a long time and a long struggle to keep the voice and songs of Tony Martin in the music arena, but now for the first time in his home town as a solo artist, Tony Martin is performing many of the songs he was responsible for creating. Songs of course from the Sabbath era of his career, through Phenomena, and solo albums “Back Where I Belong” and “Scream” to the Rondinelli album and laterly “The Cage” which has not had one single bad review to date since its release earlier this year!
His band is a collection of his closest and trusted friends –
Geoff Nicholls on keyboards, was Tony’s colleague from Black Sabbath. Always able to create a melodic atmosphere for Tony’s writing, sometimes being the KEY to making the song work! Geoff has been in Tony’s band for many years and appeared on his “Scream” album as co writer.
Danny Needham, currently working with Venom, rejoins Tony for this unique and landmark concert. Danny is the anchor and guardian of the shows pace and tempo. Highly regarded as a player, Danny is a hard act to follow.
Magnus Rosen, is a new addition to Tony’s band ; with great stage presence and ability as a bass player, Magnus has gained huge respect for his honesty and is highly regarded by Tony as one of the true gentlemen of the rock world. He is known mostly for his work with HAMMERFALL … a Scandinavian band in which Magnus was a key player in their rise to fame. He also is famed for his solo work with symphonic orchestras! He is a truly versatile and yet powerful presence.
The remaining member, Dario Mollo is a long time friend and collaborator on the CAGE project. Dario’s guitar playing is exceptional. Never content with second best Dario pursues his craft relentlessly! He is naturally left handed but plays a right handed guitar. He has an absolute command of his chosen instrument. Not only a guitar player though, he runs his own studio in Italy and is a very attentive producer.
This collection of friends and consumate artists promises to provide a unique and emotional trip through the songs of Tony Martin’s career. It is a one time chance to see the show. Dont Miss it!!
