Recently Metalshock Finland had a chance to interview Yuval Algiz Levi, the Keyboardist from Israeli power metal band SPITEFUL.
1. Hello Yuval and welcome to Metal Shock Finland
Thank you Kostya, I am very glad to be here.
2. Let’s start with the history part. Tell us about how Spiteful was born and why power metal?
The original Spiteful was founded in 2008, by lead guitarist Slava Fedorov. Unfortunately, a dramatic event ruined it, and Spiteful totally collapsed. In august 2011, Slava decided to form the band again. I was the first to join him after the band “NeverWhere” disassembled, where I was the keyboardist. So Slava and I found the new, mightier, and better Spiteful. Power Metal is in my blood, I always appreciated the original Spiteful, and to build a new Spiteful with Slava Fedorov was a great “New Beginning” for me, after NeverWhere disassembled. He fell just in time!
3. Slava Fedorov formed the band, but besides Spiteful he is also the guitar player/vocalist in the melodic death band Separation Anxiety. How was it for him to play such a different music from his origins?
It’s a good question, only one thing is wrong. Slava’s origins is Power metal. Separation Anxiety was formed in 2009, yet Spiteful was founded by Slava in 2008. Why he decided to make a Melodic Death Metal while he’s origin is power metal? I guess it is simply because he likes death metal, and wanted to do something different after old Spiteful collapsed.
4. The band first single “ALONE IN THE DARK” was recorded in the most popular Israeli metal studio BLACK HORIZONS. What can you tell us about the studio and the creation process?
I don’t know any other Music studio but BLACK HORIZONS that deals with metal mixing and recording, with such professionalism, here in this country. The creation of “Alone in the Dark” was hard. Each one of us did his best, and it was worth it. The crowd here love this song, and I’m also very happy to know that the Russian crowd also loves it.
5. Few weeks ago the band entered the studio to record their first official album. Will this album be the same as your first single or will it be somehow different?
Of course it would be different! We are recording a studio album, not a single song to publish in the internet. We are now using orchestral instruments, we have new members in this album, who are doing a great job. And you can expect some suprises too!
6. What the listeners can expect from the album?
Our upcoming album has been made with Rain of sweat and blood. We hold there a lot of technical parts and solos. Also, we are using Orchestral instruments! You can expect something great, Epic and Gothic! We also have a special guest in this album – Alexei Raymer! Lead vocalist of Succeeding Israeli Power Metal “Desert”. And as said, we have more suprises…
7. Now lets talk about you as a musician. Where have you started and who are your musical idols?
My first true band is Spiteful. The first band I started to record the band’s stuff. For some years I went from a band to band. But I found myself here in Spiteful. A strong and professional band. My keyboardist idols are Alex Staropoli (Rhapsody of Fire) and Tuomas Holopainen (Nightwish). They are the reason I am a keyboardist today.
8. How can you describe the power metal scene in Israel?
For my luck, the Power Metal scene here is getting bigger and bigger. Seriously, once, I thought I was the only Power Metal fan in this country. The Metal scene here is strong, yet not the Power metal. But it will keep getting bigger.
9. What your fans can expect from the band when the album will be ready?
Shows. A lot of them. And of course we will start working on more songs and composition, always thinking of how to get better and better. And we will!
10. Thanks for your time Yuval! Any last words you want to pass to the readers and your fans?
YES! Thank you fans and readers for supporting us! Keep following us! And I’m sure we won’t disappoint you. You shall see us soon!
