Metal Shock Finland (World Assault )

LOST IN ALASKA was formed in November 2007 in Chelyabinsk city, Russia. The band’s style was formed by severity of Russian winters and metallurgy factories. The new EP “Time Of Solution” was released only a couple of days ago. Recently Metal Shock Finland‘s Kostya Aronberg had a chat with the band’s guitarist, Maxim Zadorin, please join the conversation.

1. Hello Maxim and welcome to Metal Shock Finland! How are you?

Hello Metal Shock Finland! I am glad to give you some answers.

2. The “Lost in Alaska” was formed in 2008, and since then it has became a very popular death-core band in Russia. Can you tell us more about how the band was formed, and why you chose death-core as your style?

We went through a lot during this time, many argued and still there are differences, but it is normal. All true, band was formed in 2008 by two friends Alexey Kurochkin and Vladimir Kaznacheevskiy. They really wanted to play metal music. First lineup was formed very fast and guys after a month of rehearsals have played some gigs in his home town. Really wanted to play something heavy and rocking at the same time, but some shit comes out. One fine day in the internet space they saw video of Despised Icon and they were blown away by that power which dumped on the audience. At the same time, they have become big fans of this genre!

3. Which bands has influenced you and the band the most?

In fact, we have always been fans of metal like a Pantera, Hatebreed, Lamb Of God and death metal of the European school Decapitated, Behemoth, Vader. But on formation of the band style, on the stuff we play are most influenced Despised Icon, Impending Doom and Winds Of Plague.

4. Through the years the lineup of the band has been changed many times. Why many musicians decided to left the band and was it difficult to find new ones?

Yes, unfortunately the group every year somebody changes. This is of course for us a huge problem. Always when there is a new musician in the group, he needs to get used to us and band ambiance, not everyone comes to us musicians it have succeeded. We were losing people for different reasons, but mainly as though it may sound trite, it was a financial matter of the case, they all want to play and become a famous musician, but just few people are ready to pay for it. Look for a new musician is always difficult, in our city it is probably especially difficult because we have metallurgical city, guys work on the factories and often they have no time to seriously engage in music. But we always try to give all the free time to our band. We tried not to dwell on the fact that someone of us left, that is not written about it on the Internet or somewhere else and we just started to look for a replacement among friends and acquaintances.

5. The band’s first album “Zodiac” grabbed many positive reviews all over the world, and made you one of the best bands in Russia (in you music genre style). How would you explain it?

We risked of releasing the Zodiac, because it was the first full-length album and we have paid a huge amount of money to release it and in the same time we made not a bad video. When we planned to just write this stuff, we immediately decided that we looking for some good sound engineer. We took a very long time searching for person whose work we like, well, after a long search in the internet, we found Joshua Wickman. We were amazed how our stuff begun to sound. There are a very few Russian teams who have decided to take the risk so it is possible to explain our popularity.

6. Now you are about to release your new 3 tracks EP – “Time Of Solution”. What the listeners can expect to hear in this EP?

New EP was coined two years ago, after our first tour, but the losses of main musicians have forced us to set aside the release. It’s packed the hardest breakdowns, super rocking riffs and new fatty vox.

7. Can you say that “Time Of Solution” is somehow different from “Zodiac”? If yes, how?

Time Of Solution in our opinion is more holistic stuff, it is much heavier and more aggressive than the previous one, it may be more direct in contrast to the first album. In any case, we were able to reach the atmosphere, which we couldn’t get on the Zodiac. Zodiac were recorded by old lineup and Time Of Solution by totally different. After the lineup of Zodiac album there were only bassist and drummer. Each new musician brings a touch of a new one and you can hear a different nature.

8. You’ve played with many great artists through the years and shared the stage with Caliban, Napalm Death, Sonic Syndicate, Tasters Choice and many others. Which of these concerts were the best for you?

It was very pleasant to act with all of these coolest bands and each gig was special. Aactually we just love to play our stuff and it doesn’t matter with whom we are playing.

9. In October 2012 you inked a worldwide management deal with GlobMetal Promotions. How did you find these guys, and what do you think about this new partnership?

We were doing our promotion for ourselves and I found GlobMetal Promotions by chance on facebook. I’m glad that it happened. This is a very useful cooperation for us, they are greatly helping us.
