Californian blues rockers RIVAL SONS have confirmed dates for a European headlining tour in support of their forthcoming album, “Head Down”, which is due to be released on September 17 via Earache Records. The trek kicks off on September 21 with nine shows in the U.K. before moving on to continental Europe. It follows a massively successful run through Europe earlier this summer, where the band performed numerous headlining club shows and huge rock festivals
, as well as shows with the likes of GUNS N’ ROSES and EVANESCENCE.
Commented RIVAL SONS guitarist
Scott Holiday: “This last tour was definitely our most successful yet. All the headline shows were at capacity, support shows with kick-ass bands and the festivals were extremely great to us… Great slots, huge crowds, and got to connect and play with some of our favorite bands as well as meet a ton of new great ones. Making lots of new friends. We also got to play some unbelievable new places. The whole tour was basically a complete onslaught of radicalness. Looking forward to coming back through to all these places in support of the new record this next year.
“People are always graciously telling us these amazing things like, ‘you guys have made me believe rock ‘n’ roll isn’t dead’… ‘You guys are the future of rock ‘n’ roll’ etc. But I can wholeheartedly say, the reaction we got from the crowd on this tour reinstated my firm belief that people really want, even NEED rock ‘n’ roll in their lives.”

Although Blythe paid $200,000 bail shortly after his arrest, prosecutors challenged the bail action and forced Blythe to remain behind bars.
A judge doubled the bail to $400,000 and this time ordered that Blythe go free once it was paid.
Blythe was set free Thursday afternoon and boarded a flight home to the U.S. on Friday (August 3).
Earlier today (Monday, August 5), Blythe released the following statement:
“Greetings. This is D. Randall Blythe, checking in from my beloved hometown of Richmond, Virginia, United States of America.
“I was recently released on bail from Pankrác Prison in Prague, Czech Republic, after over a month of incarceration. Now that I am out for the moment, I would like to say a few things.
“While in prison, I had minimal knowledge of how my case was viewed anywhere but the Czech Republic. I was told by my attorney that I had a lot support from peers in the music industry, my hometown, fans, and, of course, my family.
“I cannot express how emotional it made me upon my release to read about even a fraction of the voices that were raised on my behalf. From legends in my music community, to fans across the world, and even people who were previously unaware of my existence but sympathized with my plight — I am truly humbled. I cannot thank you enough for your thoughts and prayers. I would especially like to thank the people of Richmond, Virginia, for standing by me.
“In the 48 hours I have been home, many people I have never met before have stopped me on the street, waved and smiled as I passed by, or said hello in a restaurant. All have said, ‘We are glad you are home, Randy.’ You all make me proud and grateful that I call Richmond home.
“I would like state that I suffered no abuse, from either authorities or inmates, during my incarceration in Pankrác. I received no special treatment, and was in general population with everyone else. Make no mistake, it was prison, not some celebrity-rehab TV show. But I was treated fairly by the guards and kindly by my fellow inmates.
“People are dying of starvation all over the world. Men and women are losing their lives daily in the Middle East and other war-torn regions. I had food, clothes, shelter, and no one was trying to kill me. I cannot complain over a short stay in prison while many people elsewhere fight to survive on a daily basis.
“If it is deemed necessary for me to do so, I WILL return to Prague to stand trial. While I maintain my innocence 100%, and will do so steadfastly, I will NOT hide in the United States, safe from extradition and possible prosecution.
“As I write this, the family of a fan of my band suffers through the indescribably tragic loss of their child. They have to deal with constantly varying media reports about the circumstances surrounding his death. I am charged with maliciously causing severe bodily harm to this young man, resulting in his death. While I consider the charge leveled against me ludicrous and without qualification, my opinion makes no difference in this matter. The charge exists, and for the family of this young man, questions remain. The worst possible pain remains.
“It is fairly common knowledge amongst fans of my band that I once lost a child as well. I, unfortunately, am intimately familiar with what their pain is like. Therefore, I know all too well that in their time of grief, this family needs and deserves some real answers, not a media explosion followed by the accused killer of their son hiding like a coward thousands of miles away while they suffer.
“I am a man. I was raised to face my problems head on, not run from them like a petulant child.
“I hope that justice is done, and the family of Daniel N. will receive the closure they undoubtably need to facilitate healing.
“I feel VERY STRONGLY that as an adult, it would be both irresponsible and immoral for me not to return to Prague if I am summoned.
“This is not about bail money. This is about a young man who lost his life. I will act with honor, and I will fight to clear my good name in this matter.
“Thank you for reading this, and I wish you all peace.”
Blythe and his bandmates will now appear at Knotfest later this month and are already rescheduling a canceled U.S. tour for October.

Born in the darkest depths of Essex, twisted creations of Satan’s dream… Osmium Guillotine brings their sonic attack to the ears of humanity. Take some 80’s heavy metal, sprinkle on a handful of classic rock, a zest of 70’s punk, with just a light twist of black metal. Pour in a few pints of ale and Osmium Guillotine is the resulting mess.
Osmium Guillotine are an Essex-based metal band formed in June 2009 by James and Elijah. Some notable gigs played during the band’s first year include supporting Sham 69, John Otway, Splodgenessabounds, and ex-Iron Maiden and Wolfsbane vocalist, Blaze Bayley.
In April 2010 the band released their debut 5-track EP; “How D’ya Like Them Apples?” which is still available to buy on CD (while stocks last!) and downloadable from: http://osmiumguillotine.com/album/how-dya-like-them-apples
In August 2011 they released their brand new EP featuring their new line-up and sound; “Into the Battle” http://osmiumguillotine.com/album/into-the-battle
In 2012 the band were nominated for the ‘Panic Awards’ Best Band award and performed on the finals night. Osmium Guillotine played the Mansfield “Metal Gods” Festival in May 2012.
Their latest CD “Subhuman” was released on Friday 13th July, and is available for purchase at:

The album starts off with Blight Upon Mankind the song starts off slow with a slow guitar riff and clean vocals after short while the rhythm gets a little faster and the vocals get a little deeper. Getting a little further into the song the riffs from the guitars are really good, the drums have a perfect rhythm alongside the guitars. It also has some really good solos, the vocals are really good and it is a good start to the album. The second song is D-Day starts off with an excerpt from a war film then it straight into a really quick but well done guitar riff. The pace has quickened on this song and it is doing the song justice, the vocals are hit perfectly and the solos are out of this world. This song has an old style punk feel to it from the vocals, guitars and even the way the drums are played but still a quality song. The third song is Hobgoblin which starts off with a clever little riff then the vocals come in telling the story of the love of the Hobgoblin beer. Then the pace quickens without missing a heartbeat with its galloping riff it instantly gets my head nodding. The galloping riff continues right through the song the vocals tell a great story then near the end it goes back to how it was at the start of the song then finishes strong with the galloping riff at the end. The Fourth song on the album is Genocide starts off with a quality drum solo then the guitars kick in with a very quick pace this is probably the fastest song on the album so far and it is top drawer. The vocals seem to be a little bit deeper than on previous songs but it gives the song an edge. The guitar work is still of the highest standard as previous songs and the riffs and solos are really good. This is one of my favourites on the album so far top quality. The fifth song is the title song of the album called Subhuman starts off with a heavy intro guitar riff which then turns into a quick speedy riff which instantly gets my head nodding. The vocals are superb this is what a title should be like full of great riffs, Superb vocals and earth shuddering drums. Towards the middle of the song the tempo changes to a little slower and the vocals go a little bit cleaner but the standard is so strong on the song it blends in perfectly. Then the quick guitars riffs come flooding back and the vocals go back to how they were at the start of the song brilliant. The next four songs are “Live” versions of the first four songs of the album. First up is Blight Upon Mankind (Live In London) from the start of this song you can tell that the band has worked very hard to get the song from the studio to a live show perfectly and I must say they have done it it sounds great they did an amazing job. There is a lot of bands that cannot produce a live song like they did a studio version but these guys have managed it. The next live song is D-Day (Live In London) again they have done a real good job of producing the goods live on this song the guitar work is bang on perfect to the studio version and the same can be said of the vocals on whole the band again done really well. The next live song is Hobgoblin (Live In London) this song sounds really good live the vocals are sounding good the guitars and drums I cannot fault either the song sounds as good as the studio version. The last song on the album is Genocide (Live In London) the song sounds really good live and the band as a whole sound perfect in every way from the vocals, guitars and the drums each note done to a high standard.
Overall
The album overall was done to a high standard from the vocals, guitars and drums. It is full of high quality riffs and solos, the vocals are done to a high standard hitting every note perfectly. The drums keep the rhythm well and it was a nice touch to put some live performances on the end just to show how they sound live and I must say they sound really good. This just by hearing them play these songs live I would have to put them on my list to see.

German TV channel ZDF Kultur conducted an interview with Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL at this year’s Wacken Open Air festival
, which took place August 2-4 in Wacken, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.
The members of HAMMERFALL announced in March that they were take an extended break immediately following their festival appearances this summer
.
“It has been an unbelievable first 15 years, to say the least,” said guitarist
Oscar Dronjak, “and now we are taking a pause to ensure that we have another 15 years ahead of us.”
There will be no HAMMERFALL activities in 2013, but the band promises to return strong the following year. “The plan is to use the year off to recharge our batteries and come back more vital than ever with a new album in 2014,” explained singer Joacim Cans.
HAMMERFALL‘s new album, “Infected”, sold around 1,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD debuted at No. 16 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
HAMMERFALL‘s previous CD, “No Sacrifice, No Victory”, opened with 1,400 units to land at No. 38 on the Top New Artist Albums chart.
“Infected” entered the official chart in Sweden at position No. 2 (right behind LADY GAGA!). The CD was released in Europe in May 2011 and was made available in North America in June via Nuclear Blast Records. Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the members of HAMMERFALL then traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing any of the essence of the band’s sound.
HAMMERFALL was among the five final nominees that competed for the “Best Hard Rock/Metal” honor at the Swedish Grammis awards (Swedish Grammy equivalent), which was held February 14, 2012 at Kungliga Operan in Stockholm.
