Italian Metallers Bejelit dropped by to talk with Metal Shock Finland about their new album “Emerge” and their work with Poet ‘Nick Xas’.
Welcome to Metal Shock Finland, I’m Dylan Raine, Can you introduce yourselves?
Hi Dylan, thanks for this interview! We’re Bejelit from Italy and we’re playing our music, what else? Seriously the band was born officially in 2001 and we released four full length albums during these years together. We were labelled as power metal but we don’t like labels too much since we’re just writing and performing our own music without any external interference.
Can you tell me about the origins of the music and how it all came together?
When Bejelit were born we were just playing some covers for fun but soon we realised we had some good tunes to work on and that’s was we did! In 2003 we signed our first record deal and then we released our very first album called “Hellgate“. Then in 2006 it was the turn of our second full length album called “Age of Wars“. In 2010 we released the third one “You die and I…” and now we’re speaking the last one “Emerge”. As I was telling you, Bejelit is not a planned band with a big music strategy behind. We just write and play the music we like mostly without a unique label or anything else.
Who plays what in the band?
Sandro Capone at the guitars, who’s also the main man of the crew, Fabio Privitera at the vocals, Giorgio Novarino at the bass guitar, Marco Pastorino at the lead guitars and me, Giulio Capone at the drums and keyboards.
Let’s talk gear. What sort of Equipment do you use? Racks, Effects, On-Board, Pedals, Guitars, Mics, Drums etc…?
We’re not equipment enthusiasts so we’re not the typical band which is always searching for the “new sound” or for some new stuff to bring to the studio or to the stage. We usually concentrate mostly on the composition and on the performing live. Anyway we know that great equipment is really important to have a good sound and to have a good reliability on stage.
We’re endorsers of the following brands: Schecter guitars, Mayones guitar and basses, Ufip Cymbals, Rotosound, Blackstar amplification and Alliction clothing!:)
What or who are your main influences, musically and non musically?
We have many influences since we’re all listeners and we’re quite open minded about what we are listening to. I could tell you we like to listen from Nevermore to Iron Maiden, from Gamma Ray to In Flames and so on! About lyrics themes we were very influenced by a Japanese Manga in the previous two albums. The manga is shown in the well known Berserk series and all our lyrics were based on it. From our third album “You die and I…” we chose to change the lyrical themes and explore something more personal and sometimes obscure. For the very last album “Emerge” we worked with Nick Xas, a writer and poet of our area who wrote the greatest part of the lyrics. We’re really enjoyed his job and I think we’re going to work with him again in the future!
Do you have any Tours or Gigs planned?
This year we joined the Rhapsody of Fire European Tour and then we had our own Emerge tour both in Italy and Europe. Now we’re relaxing a little bit since we have only some summer festivals we really love to play at. Yes, we have some new ideas ready for a new tour but it’s quite too early to say what is going to happen in the near future!
What would you say is the most defining track on the album and why?
This is a difficult question since every track on Emerge is quite different from the other ones. There’re so many different moods and styles and I could not say what the most defining one is. I could tell you that the song ‘Dancerous’ got a really good impact on stage and now represents what Bejelit are nowadays.
With the song ‘Deep Water‘, what directions or thoughts made you decide on creating this wonderful little track?
This song is something new for us because we never wrote such a long song. The very first idea was to write a “pirate” style song based on the legendary Bartholomew Roberts. Then Nick Xas wrote a new lyrical concept based on a imaginary conqueror who reaches our homeland and finds it as a beautiful place. So there’s not the will to conquer the land to enslave it but to settle there. It’s like a love declaration from us to our land!
Can we have some links to your music, website, or videos?
You can find all our stuff on Youtube but of course I would tell you to buy our albums!
Anyway you can watch our latest video clip at our official website and you can find everything related to Bejelit in our official facebook page! Check them out!
Are there any plans for another album in the making?
Sure! We’re working on the new compositions and we have ready some really good stuff! We cannot wait to enter the studio to work on it!!! But I think the band is not doing that until the next year! Now we’re fully promoting Emerge!
Is there anything you would like to share with the MSF readers that I have not yet asked?
Oh I really don’t know 🙂 You asked everything, your readers need to listen to Bejelit 😀
Well I could say that our new album Emerge is available from March and if you wanna support our band you have just to write to merch@bejelit.com and order it or order our special summer offer!!!:D It’s very important for us, to be able then to record and release the next album!
Thank you very much for your time.
Thanks to YOU and to all the readers! Please visit our official website at www.bejelit.com and our official Facebook page at the address www.facebook.com/bejelit
Today is the 70th Birthday of legendary Rocker and the voice of Metal, Ronnie James Dio, who played metal In Heaven and Hell, on the Black Sabbath, upon the Rainbow, upon the Silver Mountain and in front of the gates of Babylon for all the Rock And Roll Children.
Ronnie is one of the favourite vocalists of the Metal Shock Finland staff and we would like to celebrate this day in memory of him. We would rise our horns, play metal loud and remember him as our beloved king.
John Corabi — former lead singer of MÖTLEY CRÜE, THE SCREAM and UNION — has unveiled the cover art of his upcoming “Unplugged” CD. Check it out below.
Corabi recently released a limited-edition two-song CD sampler at this location. The disc features John‘s last live performance with THE SCREAM singing “Father, Mother, Son” as well as the track “If I Never Get To Say Goodbye…” from the unplugged CD.
Corabi‘s acoustic album will include “old songs, new songs and just a sample of things to come.” Tentatively due in the spring, the set will contain two versions of the MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s song “Hooligan’s Holiday” — a stripped-back acoustic version and a more elaborate but still acoustic-based band arrangement — as well as a version of the CRÜE‘s “Loveshine” and even a song by Corabi‘s first band, ANGORA, which was originally produced by Steve Vai.
Corabi originally joined CRÜE in 1992 as the replacement for the group’s original singer, Vince Neil, who was fired due to personal differences. With Corabi on vocals, MÖTLEY CRÜE released one critically acclaimed full-length CD, which ended up being a commercial failure in the wake of grunge despite a Top-Ten placing on the album chart. When Neil returned to the fold in 1997, Corabi was left on his own and formed the band UNION with ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.
ANIMETAL USA — the American counterpart to ANIMETAL, the Japanese heavy metal band which specialized in metal covers of popular Japanese anime/tokusatsu theme songs — made its U.S. live debut on June 29 at the Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center at the Main Events/Hall G.
A short video interview with the group and its fans conducted by KawaiiKakkoiiSugoi.com can be seen below.
ANIMETAL USA released its self-titled debut album in the U.S. on June 26 via Century Media Records. A European release date will follow shortly.
The track listing of “Animetal USA” will be the same as that of the album that was issued in Japan, but will also include four bonus songs — “Touch”, “JAM Project Medley”, “Give Lee Give Lee Rock Lee” (Japanese single version) and “Give Lee Give Lee Rock Lee” (English version). “Give Lee Give Lee Rock Lee” will already be familiar to anime fans, as it is the opening song to the “Naruto” spin-off, “Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals”.
ANIMETAL USA is:
* Mike Vescera (OBSESSION, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, LOUDNESS) – Vocals
* Rudy Sarzo (BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE, DIO) – Bass
* Jon Dette (SLAYER, TESTAMENT) – Drums
* Chris Impellitteri (IMPELLITTERI) – Guitar
The drums on ANIMETAL USA‘s debut album were laid down by JUDAS PRIEST‘s Scott Travis. He has since been forced to leave the group due to his touring commitments with PRIEST.
Due to a number of health issues, including a knee problem which will require surgery soon, former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di’Anno announced earlier today that he will stop touring next year.
A new message from Paul on his Facebook page reads as follows: “To all of you who have been with me from the start, and many new friends who have given me the privilege of being able to play and meet so many of you through the years, I can’t find the right words to tell you all how much I’ll miss you. All of you have my love and respect forever, and anyone who knows me knows that ain’t a load of bollocks you have kept me going through difficult times, happy times and a lot of heartbreak. I thank you all with all my heart and I’m glad you’re not here right now watching me write this crying like a big Jessie (for you, mates, it means a wuss!). Thank you all again, I love you all and wish you all health, good fortune, and most of all, love and happiness. You will be with me always. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Timao Corinthians n again te amo simper. Love, Paul.”
Michael Salenius, Di’Anno‘s Swedish booking manager and tour manager, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that next year will be “a big, fantastic” last touring year for Paul, with a lot of solo shows, festival appearances and Di’Anno vs. Blaze Bayley concerts. You will also see various guest musicians joining Paul on stage.
Di’Anno recorded two classic albums with IRON MAIDEN before being fired and replaced by Bruce Dickinson. He went on to front a number of other bands, including KILLERS and BATTLEZONE, and released several solo records.
On August 27, 2011, Di’Anno played his first show since serving time in a U.K. prison after he falsely collected U.K. government benefits by claiming he suffered nerve damage to his back that prevented him from working.
After serving his jail term in early 2011, Di’Anno issued a short statement in which he thanked his fans for their support and claimed that he “managed not to drop the soap” during his stint behind bars.
Di’Anno completed his first North American tour in early 2010, 17 years after he was deported following a prison term for guns and drug offenses.
