Trivium‘s Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu were interviewed on their tour bus when they played Rockfest in Kansas City recently. In the clip below, they discuss the size of the crowds they reach when playing festivals, being the odd band out on a bill and not changing their set to accommodate unfamiliar audiences, and more.
Trivium tour dates continue through this upcoming weekend, and they’ll be back again in July; in the meantime, their latest album, In Waves, is available in the Roadrunner webstore.
Few days ago WHITECHAPEL has released the first in a series of in-studio videos filmed during the recording process of their new self-titled release, which will be released June 15th/18th on Metal Blade Records in Europe. The first video provides an in depth look at the drum tracking process for the album. Check out the video HERE.
The second installment focuses on the recording of the guitar parts for the new album. View part two of the in-studio video series HERE! Look for additional in-studio videos to be released in the coming weeks!
Having spent several years lauded as one of the frontrunners in their genre, in 2012 WHITECHAPEL stand as a defining force in contemporary heavy music. Building dramatically on the trademarked bludgeon of their first three releases, with Whitechapel the Tennessean sextet have inarguably delivered their most intense, dynamic, and downright hostile record to date. Drenched in atmospheric darkness, the record is also rife with gripping melodies that drag the listener in to the tumult, willing or otherwise, and across its ten tracks it is infused with an emotional depth that pointedly separates the band from the plethora of two-dimensional mosh-starters that have sprung up in their wake.
The album was engineered and mixed by Mark Lewis (Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver), who also handled production duties alongside the band. The album artwork was created by Aaron Marsh of Forefathers Group with art direction provided by WHITECHAPEL.
The first single from Whitechapel entitled Hate Creation is available for streaming exclusively HERE. Check it out and be sure to pre-order your copy of the album!
Whitechapel Track listing:
1. Make it Bleed
2. Hate Creation
3. (Cult)uralist
4. I, Dementia
5. Section 8
6. Faces
7. Dead Silence
8. The Night Remains
9. Devoid
10. Possibilities of an Impossible Existence
Returning to their rightful place on the road, the band are enthused to take these new songs to their rabid fan base. They stand confident in their belief that their followers will hungrily devour the latest evolution of their sound, and having dramatically bolstered their fan base through blowing away the unsuspecting crowds on 2010’s Warped Tour they are sure to draw in new adherents anywhere they play.
Swedish Viking Metallers KING OF ASGARD made an astonishing impact on the scene with their debut album Fi’mbulvintr, released in 2010. After playing a bunch of festivals and club shows in 2010 and 2011, KING OF ASGARD have now finished recording their second album …to North at the infamous Sonic Train Studios with engineer Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) at the helm.
…to North will be released July 27th/30th via Metal Blade Records as a Digi-CD and on vinyl!
The album will feature two guest musicians. Comments the band: “First out is female vocalist Heléne Blad whom did a guest appearance on “Fi’mbulvintr” as well. This time around she’s present on the album opener, “The Nine Worlds Burn”, doing an epic folk inspired vocal part. She’s been a longtime friend of the band and is a professionally schooled folk singer et cetera. She was also once, for a short while, the keyboardist of the KING OF ASGARD predecessor Mithotyn. The second appearance on “…to North” presents the extremely talented guitarist Jimmy Hedlund. Yet another friend known from bands such as Falconer and Supreme Majesty. He shreds two guitar solos on the song “Gap of Ginnungs”. Least say, amazing stuff and truly breathtaking!”
Check out the first video trailer for …to North at THIS location!
Comments bassist Jonas Albrektsson on the recording process and what to expect from …To North: “The “…To North” master just arrived and it sounds astonishing! Andy LaRocque made a great job on the production and the mastering along with Olof Berggren. It’s upright and powerful. We feel very proud of what we achieved on this recording and merely the sound of it makes it a worthy follow-up to the firstborn “Fi’mbulvintr”. Songs and sounds came out much as of what we planned, with power and a great variety. “…To North” takes off pretty much where “Fi’mbulvintr” left off so to say, with a natural development, more varied songs and structures. It’s a development of our sound which will be recognized by old fans as well as bring some new ones to the horde. This time around I’ve been more involved in the writing process along with Karl, which kind of shines through, giving the songs a wider perspective. Expect some very strong songs on “…To North”, where epic meets with brutality! The lyrical theme this time is basically in the same vein but has different twists. Not as obvious as before. “…To North” will make The Nine Worlds Burn… and Varberg was just left behind.”
First song titles include ‘Gap Of Ginnungs’, ‘Plague-Ridden Rebirth’, ‘Nordvegr’, ‘Upon The Mountain’ and ‘The Nine Worlds Burn’.
…To North – the first KING OF ASGARD album featuring second guitar player Lars Tängmark – will be released July 27th/30th via Metal Blade Records in Europe!
KING OF ASGARD is:
Karl Beckman – vocals/guitars
Lars Tängmark – guitars
Jonas Albrektsson – bass
Karsten Larsson – drums
Metal Blade is proud to announce the signing of ENTRAILS, one of the best Death Metal bands ever to come out of Sweden! ENTRAILS formed in the 90s, but split up before they were able to release a demo or even an album. It took them until 2008 to come back when guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist rediscovered some old tapes. In a moment of nostalgia he decided that they deserved to be released as they should have been originally. With modern recording technology, the first ENTRAILS demo could finally take shape. After releasing another demo in 2009 ENTRAILS recorded and released their debut album Tales From The Morgue in 2010.
Just a year later The Tomb Awaits was released, an album that gained worldwide attention of music fans of the extreme and was considered by many as the best death metal album of 2011!
Comments guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist on the deal with Metal Blade: “Being on Metal Blade has been a dream since Slayer’s Hell Awaits came out and given the chance to be there as well is just pure magic! It is with honourable excitement that we have signed to Metal Blade!”
Right now ENTRAILS are in the final stages of songwriting for their third studio album to be recorded during the summer! “Our upcoming third opus is filled with old-school and rotten bastards of songs. Groovy and heavy like a pile of flesh that will be like a punch in your face. To us it’s the perfect step from The Tomb Awaits album…beware!”
ENTRAILS is:
Joakim Svensson – vocals/bass
Jimmy Lundqvist – guitar
Mathias Nilsson – guitar
Adde Mitroulis – drums

Testament vocalist Chuck Billy discussed The Dark Roots Of Earth with BraveWords.com recently. The tattooed frontman revealed that it was guitarist Eric Peterson who came up with the title. “It came pretty quick because we were at it for months working on the record, then when we decided we were going to try to fulfil a deadline and get a record out this year, it all just snowballed. That came out first and it sounded really good.”
As far as personal significance of The Dark Roots Of Earth, Chuck offered the following, “Being Native American, it has a different meaning for me – being grounded and set in tune with the earth. But we’ve always been a band that’s touched on stories of the earth or Nostradamus predictions, things like that on all our records. So it was kind of fitting; I’m big into the planet. When I first heard it, I dug it.”
Lyrically the new material deals with “things that happen every day. There’s a lot of things having to do with the earth, war of course. It’s odd that some of the songs I wrote have a lot of earth vibes in them, and then finding out the title of the record after as I was writing about that anyhow, everything just kind of fell into that. We’re still working; we have seven songs complete with vocals. All the music’s recorded. Eric just got back from London and finished all the guitar tracks. Drums are all done; Gene Hoglan (who sat behind the kit on Demonic in 1997) played drums on it.”
In addition to the mighty Gene Hoglan (DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FEAR FACTORY), Chris Adler from LAMB OF GOD is playing drums on a couple of songs. “When we decided we were going to meet a deadline, it was like, okay, who’s playing drums? That was the first thing. So we put some feelers out there and a couple drummers got back to us. Chris actually was one of the first, but he was doing a Lamb Of God record so the scheduling wasn’t working. So we gave him a couple of tracks that he could do for us while he was doing his record. It worked out well, he had fun with it.”
