According to DNA, AEROSMITH will be venturing to India to play as a part of the first edition of a major music festival to be held in Pune.
Reveals an insider from the organising team, “India is about to experience a music festival like never before, and with acts like Aerosmith banging it in, they can only imagine what is in store.”
The music fest which is a joint venture by actor Arjun Rampal and entrepreneur Shailendra Singh, is said to be a three-day long “glocal” festival slated to be held in Pune from November 23 – 25. “This is going to be a huge musical gala to look forward to. It will be driven by culture, tradition and soul…,” says a spokesperson from the organising team, adding, “And, of course, there are a host of A-list artistes and bands from across the globe who’re going to be a part of the event!”
On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 7,273 guitar players joined together at the “Thanks Jimi Festival” in Poland to play the JIMI HENDRIX classic “Hey Joe” (see video below), breaking the record for “Largest Guitar Ensemble” set at the 2009 edition of the annual event.
The late rock legend’s brother Leon Hendrix led the musicians at this year’s festival, which was held on Wroclaw’s Main Market Square.
All participants were registered and given IDs, with organisers approving electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitars.
May 1, 2009 saw 6,346 guitar players join together with festival founder Leszek Cichonski and DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse at the “Thanks Jimi Festival” to play “Hey Joe” and more than tripled the standing Guinness World Record for “Largest Guitar Ensemble” of 2,052.
According to GuitarPlayer.com, Cichonski is a well-known musician and music educator in Poland and the festival was an outgrowth of one of his educational programs and has taken place — and grown — annually since 2003.
The title track from the debut offering from Trioscapes, Separate Realities, will be debuting today. Separate Realities is an eleven-and-a-half minute cut that highlights many of the elements the progressive trio has to offer. It also exemplifies how it’s possible to sound “heavy” without the use of a customary electric guitar. Through bass guitar, saxophone, and drums (and a handful of other instruments), Trioscapes manages to weave their way through multiple genres, moods, and sound scapes all while playing music as relentlessly technical as it is catchy. Listen to the title track now here. Sputnikmusic is a premier source for music reviews, news, and features spanning indie, metal, and punk. Trioscapes started in the summer of 2011 when bassist Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) contacted Walter Fancourt (tenor saxophone/flute) and Matt Lynch (drums) about working up a rendition of the Mahavishnu Orchestra classic “Celestial Terrestrial Commuters”. The group also messed around with a few original ideas with the intent of playing a one-off live show. However, after rehearsing the material and playing the show, the group decided the music was so demanding and fun to perform that there should be more of a future for the project. A few more songs were written near the end of the summer and a full length album was recorded the first week of October with Jamie King in Winston-Salem, NC.Trioscapes combines elements of 70s fusion with progressive rock, dark syncopated grooves, a flare for the psychedelic, and an unabashed love for both quirky Zappa-ish melodies and thunderous abrasive trade-off lines.
Trioscapes currently has one show confirmed for this May to celebrate the release of the CD on Metal Blade Records. The 12″ LP is also available via Dan Briggs’s own Hogweed & Fugue Records. Both will be available for purchase at this show. More shows are currently being confirmed.
YES! Weekly, the Greensboro, NC entertainment magazine, just named Dan Briggs the region’s best bassist and Trioscapes the best new band. YES! praises Briggs’ work: “his marathon bass runs for the progressive death metal quintet [BTBAM] are well noted, Briggs’ work with the newly formed Trioscapes to this point is equally impressive. The abrupt time signature changes remain, but his style in the fiery jazz-fusion trio recalls Jonas Hellborg considered cadences in the Mahavishnu Orchestra mixed with a little bit of Bill Laswell fuzz bass.” Read the full article here: http://www.yesweekly.com/triad/article-13744-best-of-the-music-endorsements.html
A track from Separate Realities can be heard and the album can be pre-ordered now athttp://www.metalblade.com/trioscapes. Separate Realities will be available May 7th in Europe.

During the time off between BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE albums, frontman and chief songwriter Matt Tuck grew restless. Recruiting Jason Bowld (PITCHSHIFTER, KILLING JOKE), routinely touted as the best session drummer in the U.K., and engineer Martyn “Ginge” Ford (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, TRIVIUM), Matt set to creating monster riffs and intricate metal melodies at the Atrium recording studios in Cardiff, Wales. The project proved fertile ground for Matt to explore the darker, heavier side of his appetite for metal, and soon enough Matt was recruiting co-conspirators to the cause, including Synyster Gates of AVENGED SEVENFOLD delivering a finger-burning guitar solo on standout track “Vultures”.
Choosing a vocalist to match the intensity of the music was easy, says Matt. “The first phone call I made was to Liam [Cormier, of CANCER BATS]. We’ve toured the world together and I’ve always admired the furious energy he brings to a performance.” Liam flew over from his native Canada to join Matt and Jason at the studio and began recording his trademark searing vocals that took the then-unnamed project to the next level. “That was when it really hit me,” continues Matt, “we had something special here, way more than just a studio project. We’ve gotta take this show on the road!” Guitarist Mike Kingswood (GLAMOUR OF THE KILL) and Joe Copcutt (ex-RISE TO REMAIN) were handpicked to join the lineup and a metal supergroup AXEWOUND was born.
A strict Omerta-like code of silence prevailed around the camp as finishing touches were added to the record and in March the tracks were shipped off to be mixed by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, THE BRONX) at his studio in New Jersey.
AXEWOUND‘s lead track, “Post Apocalyptic Party”, was aired this past Monday night (April 30) on the BBC Radio 1 “Rock Show” and is available for free download from the band’s web site at www.axewounduk.com.
AXEWOUND is:
Matt Tuck (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) – Guitar, Vocals Liam Cormier (CANCER BATS) – Vocals Mike Kingswood (GLAMOUR OF THE KILL) – Guitar Joe Copcutt (RISE TO REMAIN) – Bass Jason Bowld (ex-PITCHSHIFTER) – Drums
Tuck first revealed that he was collaborating with other musicians on a “metal-as-fuck” side project last October during an interview with “Metal Zone” host Nikki Blakk of the San Francisco, California radio station 107.7 The Bone. Tuck said at the time, “It’s, like, far more like SLIPKNOT, PANTERA… It’s metal as fuck, you know what I mean?! Stepping away from the melodic, not giving a fuck… ‘Cause obviously BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE is a business and we have our formula, and what we do works — it’s great — so we won’t stray from that. So it’s nice to step out of that comfort zone and do something fucking ridiculous and not worry about what people are gonna think, because it doesn’t exist yet. . . We wanted to go in there with kind of like a SLIPKNOT attitude of just everything… Like the ‘Iowa’ album — just fucking violent. Let it all out. No holds barred.”
AXEWOUND will kick off a European tour on May 31 in Utrecht, Netherlands and will make a number of festival appearances, including at Download (U.K.), Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Park (Germany), Gods Of Metal (Italy) and Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium).

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser is featured in a new interview with Cobra Metal. An excerpt is available below:
Cobra Metal: The past couple of Sepultura albums have been concept albums. Dante XXI was based on The Divine Comedy, and A-Lex was based on A Clockwork Orange. Fill us in on the concept behind Kairos.
Andreas: “It’s almost like we picked up our own biography (book) and did an album based on ourselves. But more or less what it is…we talk about (in the lyrics) our family, our fans, traveling, labels and managers you know. Everything is there. Musically also, a little bit of everything that we ever did; all the thrash, all the death metal stuff, with the percussion and Brazilian influence. A little bit of everything is there. We worked with Japanese groups and now we’re working with a French percussive group which is amazing and totally different and stuff. I guess the concept is Sepultura itself and what we are today. The momentum and what matters. We respect our past, it’s a very rich history you know? Twenty-eight years, then coming from Brazil and doing such crazy things (laughs) that we always dreamed! And we’re still here. Regardless of the changes inside the band like members leaving or different labels and managers. Also the outside, technological changes that in this last 28 years brought us from vinyl to CD to download so quick! (laughs) From fax machines to fucking iPhones! (laughs) And we’re still here. So that’s the parallel with what we are as a band. We respect our history but we are here now and that’s what matters and it’s cool to have so many songs to choose from.”
Cobra Metal: Sepultura is in its 28th year of existence. Derrick has been in the band for 15 years now. Is the concept behind the new album a statement, “This is Sepultura, and there’s no need to reunite with Max or Igor”?
Andreas: “People have a very hard time to understand that there’s nothing dead growing. Like a reunion. We’re going down a totally different path. That’s what Sepultura is all about. That’s our spirit. We started that way and we are keeping it that way. We’re going after new things and enjoying learning new things.”
As previously reported, Sepultura has been confirmed for this year’s Wacken Open Air and they will be joined by some guests, LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX, featuring sixteen drummers from France. According to organizers, “this combination from heavy metal sounds and this incomparable percussion ensemble can only be seen two times in the whole world in this year.”
Founded in 1987, Les Tambours Du Bronx beat 225 litre barrels with beech wood bats or even axe handles. In more than 1000 concerts they’ve smashed about 16,000 barrels and more than 110,000 broken ‘drum sticks’!
